For your information, I schooled at the University of Benin for my first degree. It was master's I went to do at ABU because I live and work in Abuja. And pls don't twist issues. ABU is a great school.

The cut off mark for UI has always been 200. This implies that any candidate that applied to the university having less than this cut-off mark will not be considered for admission for any course of study in the institution.
Now for each course, the cut-off mark now depends on the level of competition , and this is usually much higher than 200, especially for STEM courses. E.g. at the time i was admitted into UI, the cut-off mark for mechanical engineering was 260 ( 2002/03 session)
3 sessions later , the point based ( or weighing) system was adopted, where your jamb score was based on 40 points and your SSCE results on 60 points, giving a total of 100 points. For example, if i score 287 in jamb, i have 28.7 points out of a possible 40 for the jamb part. If i have 6 A1s in the course's required subjects, i have 60 points (i cannot remember how this was calculated again, but i think it is something like: A1-10 points, B2-9 points, B3-8 points, C4-7 points, C5-6 points etc). That gives me a total of 87.5 points, giving me a chance to study virtually any course on merit in the University. But it doesn't end there as an interview session was also required to secure your admission.

My point is the process has never been easy. You have to be good in all dimensions to be considered for admission in UI. Of course there was the place of Catchment areas and Educationally disadvantaged states ( where quite a number of Northern states fall into) and these were given 'special consideration' in the admission process.

You all should just calm down. The quota system regardless of how unpleasant it is, I believe it is done with the best intentions in mind. South feels they are more qualified but that's relative.

But I feel the South should be grateful for quota system, imagine if NNPC behaves like Pres. Buhari and recruit only people they can trust without recourse to Quota system. You know the South doesn't stand a chance.

So I think this argument is not worth the time it is taking. Quota system is constitutional and NNPC is law-abiding.

There lots of other opportunities and companies out there.

It might be true. What I know for sure is that, there is a meeting scheduled for ending this month.
One of the major items on the agenda is to discuss proposals for voluntary retirement of staff on SS4-SS1( staff that joined the corporation as Juniors and later converted to Senior Staff cadre).
After the meeting, they will review all vacancies.
They may likely discuss about EH. For those that have sources should help us confirm the outcome of the meeting.

Down south you mean. The south is geographically lower.

Let me give you a short answer; southern universities hardly admit northerners. But northern universities do. I had 249 jamb score years back when jamb was jamb and I’d put UI first choice and ABU second choice. UI flat refused me admission while ABU said why did I put them second. Lol. I lost out that year.

Your experience is probably little that’s why you zones down to universities with reference to the wandering thing. I am talking life in general.

Well I don't know how U.I runs their admission but UNILAG uses quota system. I know at least 2 people of northern origin that got in. The quota system isn't for only North but equally any educationally disadvantaged state in the South. If cut-off for a course is 70 and the best performing from any of these educationally disadvantaged state get 59, that person will get in.
