You are absolutely right Sagay

Although they can't impose fine because the igbo judge saved his people from embarrassment by going against the final judgment. Hence, because the judgment was not unanimous, the judges cannot give a fine.

Thank goodness the case was between two Igbos. If Hope was not Igbo that is how you would have been running around like headless chicken with this your bigoted post.

Tomorrow you will be the first to shout that people are bringing tribal issues into politics.

Anyways you lot deserve the hammering you are receiving from the State of things in Nigeria.

Unredeemable youths.

Although the Justices of Supreme Court have powers to award cost to punish appellants when necessary, imposing those hefty amounts against Afe Babalola and Wole Olanipekun was unnecessary humiliation. They could have throwned out the review request without denigrating the some of the finest members of the Bar who have made so much contribution to the legal profession.

In as much as giving in to judgement review requests by selfish and inconsiderate politicians would ultimately bastardize the image of the apex court but insisting that the institution can NEVER review its judgement even in the face of new strong evidence is simply judicial dictatorship. The implication of this ruling is that an innocent man on death row can still be executed once Supreme Court upholds his conviction even if a new incontrovertible evidence emerges. It is a poor attempt by fallible human beings to play God. The thought of this is scary.

Fantastic!

One of the very best opinion I have read on Nairaland.

The law courts should not connive to tell lies and twist justice. "Wallahi" is usually a lie, but it should not be. When an individual swears an oath in the name of God, he should be truthful.
Today in Nigeria, falsehood has ascended the throne.

SHAME.

You are very dumb ,so by your saying the remaining 6 supreme court judges are from Hausa and Yoruba that is why they gave their own biased judgement.

The fine was imposed on them because they allowed themselves to be used by politicians. The SC did not degrade them, they degraded themselves & am sure it was out of disgust and surprise that seasoned lawyers will see and obvious black & want to call it white even when it was clear for all to see that their judgment was impartial. Afebabalola disgraced himself and I guess that's what APC can do to a learned individual.

you are only too sentimental, it is a goose and gander judgements, on what basis did supreme court awarded fine on lawyers for Bayelsa's case, and that same ground was not contravened on imo's case? Infact imo's case was a frivolous one ignorantly or intentionally caused by PDP and their lawyers for hoarding important documents/information for reasons best known to them

Exactly. If you claim someone is dumb, you have to prove it with logic but people allow sentiments to take over for obvious reasons.

Sagay is not dumb because he has a different political opinion than others. That's just dishonest and many Nairalanders here, I am afraid, are the ones who are dishonest. If truth be told Sagay is right. The effontery to ask the SC to sit on appeal against its own decision when it's not that there was crystal clear miscarriage of justice. It's all political interest bro. No, sorry PDP apologist, there wasn't any injustice here. It wasn't a clear kangaroo judgement, so there is no valid reason to file an appeal other than PDP is a SE party. The sentiment is based on the fact that PDP is a SE party but that is not always true on the ballot. In Nigeria, the best rigger always wins. Those lawyers deserve a fine and the dissenting opinion only goes to show how decadent the SC is, too.

Recap: PDP won election, APC disagree. APC sues INEC and PDP. During the litigation, judges tells INEC "Oya present your own copy of the result APC alledges was excluded" main body (just imagine that) could not provide it. Since they can't, atleast, says the judge, PDP oya provide it. They too couldn't. If there wasn't any incidence form to the contrary on why election was justly excluded in those areas and if indeed the results by the police officers is true, I can only wish APC the very best and demand that the dissenting judge be probed. Seriously.

Ps: I firmly believe APC is PDP and PDP is APC. I am absolutely nonpartisan in matters of politics
