Policies Nigerian can adopt to withstand current economic Turbulence
Fiscal policies
1. Remove subsidy from petroleum products
2. Higher Euro-bond issuance
3. Tax Cut
4. Adjust the budget to reduce wastage Personnel cost for Budget 2020 for MDS's alone is 2.83trn and aggregate expenditure is 2.78trn
Monetary policies
a. Naira Devaluation will make export more competitive and appear cheaper to foreigners which will mean impotrs such as petrol, food and raw material will become more expensive. This will reduce the demand for for imports
b. Hike MPR to 20% reduce LDR to 60%, increase liquidity ratio to 35%-40%
c. Increase allocation to health by at least N200B
d. Use NTB to support FAAC allocations
e. Capital control
d. CBN should limit government financing
9jatriot:
Brent went from around $76 to around $35, what do you expect? This has nothing to do with Emefiele, it is the beginning of a global recession as a result of the corona. I said it before, people do not know what is waiting in front.
In the mean time those that experience the last recession should tell us measures they took to help ameliorate this global recession

GT bank offered me 12.28% this time last year for secondary market, I was doing shakara. Glad I decisively locked in my little 7m then; which matures on March19. My other 5.5m matures in April. Since I have no need for these funds when they're available once again in my GT bank account, do I leave it in the bank, judging by the measly TB rates? And other than TB, are there other reasonable/transparent investment instrument(s) out there for my small 12.5m? Thanks guys, and please stay safe in Nigeria!

hahaha, "rosaboning" you don add another word to dictionary be that. Where were all these people when TB was doing well to provide us with alternatives to test with a long spoon? Suddenly they just show up from no where with appetizing offers with no clear direction as to how they intend to achieve it in this national and world economy that we are all looking at.

With the current global financial crisis, some of the people and businesses they loaned out money to, will have difficulties in paying back therefore affecting the investors in Rosabon or whatever they are called to get their funds.

Recession will come and go, make sure you are not indebted, live within or below your means, cut off unnecessary expenses, have an emergency reserve or fund that can take care of a minimum of your 6 months expenses, be diversified and have cash generating investments or assets.

Those who have enough cash during recession are bound to have the opportunity to buy assets and investments at good or ridiculously low market because recession creates a buyers market

Las las we will all be okay, recession is a phase in the economic cycle.

Coupled with the crude oil price and market share war between Russia and Saudi Arabia.

Nigeria is in big shit because we are not prepared for this.

Norway with a population of less than 6 million people have over $ 1 Trillion dollars in their Sovereign Wealth Fund, got dividends, interests , capital appreciation etc from the fund to the tune of over $100 billion in 2019.

While Nigeria with a population of over 200 million people has less than $2 billion in our Sovereign Wealth Fund.

Russia and Saudi Arabia have between $300 to $500 billion in their reserves to pursue this crude oil price and market share war and to also defend their currency.

7 ways to beat the market recession.

Dr. Tayo Oyedeji
@tayooye

1. Don't "concretize" your loss.

Global stocks are already down 20 - 40%. It will get worse before it gets better, but it will get better.

If you are still heavily invested in the stock market. It's too late.

Don't exit. Just ride it out.

2. Cash is king.

Property prices will soon stumble. Equity prices will become cheaper.

Cash will be the most important asset for the next few years.

Keep your cash in a highly liquid instrument like
@overwoodng
(http://overwood.ng) and wait.

Bargains are coming.
3. Diversify.

It's bad practice to have more than 50% of your asset in any instrument. Diversify quickly.

Have at least three investment classes/instruments.

4. Build some skills.

This is the perfect time to apply for your MBA/PhD.

Wages will stagnate for the next few years and corporations will retrench in large numbers.

You can skip this mess by going to school for a couple years.

I got my MBA during the last recession.

5. Hedge against currency risks.

Currencies across Africa and the Caribbeans will lose value.

The Naira, GBP, Cedis, Rand, and KSh will lose value.

You may want to hold some USDs as a hedge.

6. New business.

This is the perfect time start a new business focused on bargain hunters and the bottom of the pyramid.

TJX has been selling discount apparels for years. But it has grown 1000% since the last recession.

Recessions are great for BOP businesses.

7. Take care of yourself.

Health is wealth.

The NBA has suspended its season; La Liga is off; Universities are closing. This coronavirus thing is the real deal so be safe.

And don't worry too much about money. Recessions are necessary market corrections. You will be ok.
