Once upon a time, we wished and salivated at the prospect of having premium stocks like Zenith and GTB and many more at subs N16 and N19 respectively.

Now by divine providence, it has been placed on our lap according to our wishes and we are scared to buy.

When do we then want to make this money even?

The Chinese Government recently cancelled a deal of someone that wanted to buy out a whole company @ this period in time...................... those that understand value are keying in..................I believe its only daily stock traders, speculators and those in ill health now that are afraid of the current market dynamics

By the time the AGMs can hold(when the effects of COVID-19 may have started to show), I hope they will not slash the proposed dividends or cancel them altogether? Uncertainties cropping up everywhere ...

Unfortunately, that might be the reality. Many coys out here have cancelled their dividends altogether. It wouldn't be unusual for Nigerian companies to do likewise.

I like the word 'tentatively'. Even the Nigerian govt reduced their budget, you might 'tentatively' do likewise.

On a serious note now bro, it seems you're creating unnecessary panic where there's none.

No one have died of COVID-19 yet in Nigeria.
Something is fishy.

Please Don't make it worse than it is.

Moreover every decline on fundamentally sound stocks is an opportunity for longtime investors to increase their stakes and make more money.

Like Oracle and others have rightly said, the lower it falls, the better.
Fingers crossed.

in fact the manner of reactions I see left and right one would think that the earth is under alien attack from mars and half of the earth population is gone. I don't know if its a media stunt. Reminds me of that my child hood cartoon story 'voltron defender of the universe'

Dividends have been approved by the management of the companies and that was why it was markdown from the share price. I believe they will pay. If you shift AGM date, will you reverse markdown?

I think there was an insurance company that shifted AGM in the past (Nem I guess) but dividend was paid on the same stated date.

AGM will be to discuss and vote other issues.

This is very reassuring. Thanks Sir

You guys should calm down; to make the best investment decisions(whether buy, sell, hold, wait, etc), you need to factor in as many views and perspectives as possible. I know the effect of such seeming negativity if one is already in the market. Yes, there are a good number of monkey hunters. But then the diverse views and perspectives actually add beauty and depth to this forum, so please resist the temptation to stifle any contrary voice; it won't help on the long run.

NB: I'm also in the market. Now about 27% invested, 73% cash.

Thanks so much

Your time horizon is where your answer lies. If you have a long term (a subjective use) horizon, you should be fine due to your entry price. If you have a short term horizon, how short is short? Could it sell for less? Yes. Could it also go up? Yes. However, only two people can give you the perfect answer -God and a liar. Keep this question in mind: Is Zenith a sound, fundamental stock? if you answer in the affirmative, then don't worry about the price drop.

Hope this helps.

I don't think he is causing panic. Probably he is looking at the worst case scenarios.

Like in the country where I live, schools and businesses have been closed, embassies closed, banks work like half day. There is a limit to gatherings.

Some businesses are regarded as essential and must open. Pharmacies, supermarkets, banks, fuel stations. Only non-essential businesses could be told to close.

Once this start to happen all over Nigeria, expect a hit on Q2 2020 data in all companies.

Advice : separate investment money from upkeep money. Everyone should have emergency fund they can tap into for upkeep.

The last 2 weeks low in banks is yet to be seen again. People should stick to buying low. Don't chase price. I love panic sellers. grin grin

Only those in the hospitality and tourism sector of foreign companies cut or stopped dividends. Because they were worst hit.

Those in hospitality, tourism, travel and shale oil companies.

Others will need to increase their dividends sef. Like pharmaceutical, listed supermarkets, online markets, online education services, telecoms, video streaming services etc.

This really is not the end of the world.

I really pity the newbies here, who doesn't know how the game is being played.

Worse than Coronavirus had been here before and people scaled through.

Am very optimistic that this shall definitely pass away, and normalcy will return with time.

It's well with us all.

The suspension will cause more danger once it reopen. You might see straight 10% red for consecutive 5 trading days once shut down and reopen. American didn't shut down their trading, and Nigeria will likely not.
