Ronaldo was the reigning guy that time and World's best player and so he was a valuable player, because of his contribution to Man U which won the major leagues then, Ronaldo himself scoring a tangible parts of the goals. That was the same year Messi came to rescue the world and began Bleep up Tapnaldos career big time.
He has always been same average guy, who only achieved much because of his scoring ability, since scoring is important in football. Aside that, Ronaldo is like any other average player on the field.

I do not watch football. I do not have time for it, but I heard pretty much arguments about these two great players, and I spent about an hour watching their plays and the following line is my conclusion.

CR7 is a product of what a Human can become, when all levels of hardwork and pain is taken to a whole new level. He is a King of Skills and is adept at the game, and you can not achieve such level of metahuman ability without some air of arrogance, it is impossible to be human and get such skills without having that arrogance. He is a great guy.

Messi ? This is not a Human, this is a God materialized as Humans to show how easy anything can be done. Messi is a Football Soul in human body. Why be a King when you can be a God. There is no way else to explain the speed, dribble, focus, humility, precision and empathy in a human. I strongly believe Messi has activated the God code, because he does not play with just his body, he plays with his mind, soul and spirit.

There is no need to compare these two - One represents what the human can do, how the human can become and design a better God, while the other represents a God made flesh.

Two great gifts to humans.

Enjoy them, while you have them. They will not be on the field forever.
