0m0nnakoda:Yes. Babangida brought 6-3-3-4 up in 1986 and the five years of secondary school was killed off in 1989. We have to go back to it, if we are willing. I realised the British have continued to build on their old systems with innovative modifications, and they are the better for it. But Nigerians have ruined it all. That's why we are in this mess. |

proffemi:That means that there is not one absolute age ,yes or no? The UK is fine with 11 and has been for decades The other thing is in the UK O level education is 5 years compared to 6 in Nigeria Do not lie about imaginary beef |

Stupid rule and illegal too since the 9-3-3 system of education is based on people graduating at 16. I know some blockheads here are supporting a policy legislated by the troglodytes at the Lagos State Ministry of Education because they feel people who finish school early have an advantage over them. In any case, there's no way they are going to be able to enforce this anyway. The government has no reason to decide when anybody should go to school. Stupid. |

PrimadonnaO:What exactly does going through school means? People homeschool their children in the US and some of those children even succeed more than those who spend multiple years in public schools. Parents should be allowed to decide what's best for their kids. Not the fucking government. Some of you won't have sense till you are 25. Allow precocious performers to utilize their intelligence and talents. Don't stunt them with asinine policy. In any case, there's a zero chance of implementing this. |

Uzobejeme:Do you know what curriculum means? There is a curriculum for Primary 1-6, JSS 1-3, SSS 1-3, 100level to final year of tertiary school, 3 semesters of Post graduate and 6 semesters of PhD. The point is, what is taught in primary 5 is different from primary 6 and what is thought in JSS 1 depends on what was thought in Primary 1-6. You need to finish the curriculum of Secondary school to write SSCE. You need to finish the curriculum for a tertiary institution to be award a degree, Diploma etc why should someone who didn't finish the curriculum of Primary school be award certificate of Primary Education? Every level of education has a curriculum, finish it, write the exams and pass then collect the certificate. There are certain levels of our community were the primary cert is basic requirement, it is equally important for a primary certificate holder to be fully qualified as a degree holder is fully qualified. If the a primary 4 pupil skips primary 5 and 6 to JSS 1, he is now in a class with Primary 6 pupils who were actually taught some things the Primary 4 pupil will not understand or take long understanding. This will drag even the teacher backwards when he asks for affirmation, "do you understand". The best primary 4 student becomes below average since he is not among his peers. Principles of the teaching profession is undermined by simply skipping a class by 1 student. In Nigeria, no one cares as the evil has been overlooked leading to what you think its normal but its far from it. If you have never had that type of challenge, i had it first hand. I got admitted to Engineering in the university without ever doing further mathematics. To make it worst, my name came out on third list so by the time I settled to attend lectures, on my very 1st lecture, Integration was introduced and and CA test was a week away. You can't understand integration without understanding differentiation which is the previous lesson. I failed that course but by next year and after attending proper lectures, I got an A on the same course. In this case, I was forced to redo the course but no one forces a primary 5 pupil to attend primary 6 before now. The result is a deficient pupil pushed forward without the proper knowledge. In the UK where a 19yr old gets a PhD, they pull out him out from regular class, a dedicated tutor delivers him the requisite curriculum at an expedited rate to achieve the feat. Here, we think its by skipping class. Very very wrong. |

einsteine:Pls try and be logical. Do you even know how home schooling is controled in the US. You think government allows just anyone to withdraw their child from school in the name of home schooling. Every US state has a regulation or another. In one way or the other, the parent will account for comformity with standards. At the end, the home schooled child will still write public exams. What matters is the level of preparedness. |
| Re: Lagos Pegs Entry Age Into JSS1 At 12 Years by einsteine(m): 3:01pm On Apr 07, 2020 |
adanny01:You said level of preparedness, you didn't say age. In the US, you need not write public exams since universities determine their own entry requirements. |

| Re: Lagos Pegs Entry Age Into JSS1 At 12 Years by einsteine(m): 3:05pm On Apr 07, 2020 |
adanny01:It is possible to finish primary school at age 10 without skipping a class. Secondly, it's possible for certain students to finish two year curriculum in a year. Also, in places like Edo State, primary 6 curriculum is taught in Primary 5. To conclude, government should not be legislating entry on the basis of age |
| Re: Lagos Pegs Entry Age Into JSS1 At 12 Years by einsteine(m): 3:08pm On Apr 07, 2020 |
adanny01:Yes. Schools have been known to give admissions on the basis of essays, interviews, performances and projects. Exams like SAT may help admissions but not all students entering University write them. Each school decides its own admission criteria unlike Nigeria where everything is legislated. |

So what's the certainty of the future jobs with that plans of theirs. |

RenaissanceGuy:That's how I saw a 3yrs old assignment book who's in nursury 3 and can't even pronounce her name let alone read what's in the book and one of the questions say, 'where was Moses born?. I turned to the mother and asked her, do you pay School fees for this thing? How can someone ask a little kid who should be learning how to poo, eat play and sleep, where Moses was born. This baby's brian can retain such information yet. And parents pay school fees for this rubbish. I can't punish my child and waste my money paying fees to a school that doesn't know what and what to teach a child |

OmoOAU:I keep saying it that despite the fast that our educational system is dying, rushing kids through school and skipping classes is one of the major reasons there's mass failure in waec, jamb and other exams. The child might be very intelligent but not psychologically fit for some of the knowledge they acquire at a young age. The brain matures with age and when a chind who's suppose to be learning abc is learning further mass, the brain same to malfunction leading to poor performance. |
