WES isn't scam, they calculate by scores and not grade.
for example, tosin scores 61 in Nigeria university and his school recored B while wes record as B- (61- 64),

Tolani scores 68 in Nigeria University and her school recorded same B while wes record as B+ (65-69)

The above is just a scenerio( not real US grade) . Same B from naija, different B (B+ and B-) from wes.

Summary, WES favours high scorers in a grade range. Hope that helps.

For example, mine was 2.8/5.0 from naija while my WES was about 2.9/4.

Others 3.0/5 from naija might fall lower if most of thier scores are lower in a grade range from naija. Hope that helps.
thanks for d enlightening. God bless u.

Thanks Muleriders, for the explanation. Still, I'd like to know how they(WES Officials) get each student's raw scores, for example, "80 over 100" or "75 over 100", since most transcripts don't have such; only the unit loads and the grades.

Good morning guys, please let's keep being safe for ourselves to make this place active and informative.
A friend of mine promised to sponsor my masters degree in US. But the condition is that I will look for a school in Philadelphia because that's where she's based.
N. B. I know this part may not really be the best place to ask questions, but I'm doing it so I can useful tips on how to go about. I'm a complete novice, so I will be needing a from-the-scratch Information.

Okay Sir/Madam. Kindly go to Google and in the search box type in: "Universities in Philadelphia"
It'd bring out so many options, then start clicking the schools, one by one, to streamline your search, based on your choice course. You could use USNews(link below) for the search. Start from here, while you await more hints from the elders. Good luck.

Lol...expert ranker! FYI these rankings are subjective. As far as it's an accredited University, the focus should be on program quality and funding options.

New York institute of tech is offering application fee waiver..use code ADMREP. They also have gre waiver temporarily now because of covid 19. But the graduate coordinator said one might still be required to take GRE after the first semester with GPA less than 3.4...Cheers

1. He may not have computer background

2. His passion may lie in accounting and not computer related stuffs, so why should he switch to what he may not be passionate about because "he may not get job easily" according to you?.

Francophone134. If your passion lies with accounting, please go for it and strive to be a good CPA. the job market for CPAs in Yankee is endless. I was going though job and interns on handshake app and I was amazed to see accounting positions around everywhere.

Just last two month, I got personal handshake MESSAGES from VISA, Apen and AXA for MBA internship.

If accounting is your passion, go for it, pick a good school, strive to get good grades and go for certification to be a certified public accountant (CPA). The job opportunities are endless. From tax, to business to analyst to consultant and several others.

Schooling is just for 4years (undergraduate) or 2years (masters).

After graduation, the job market will distinguish between a ranked school and the unranked ones.

While a ranked school finals are getting on campus job interview and even getting jobs before they graduate, students from VIU, LINCOLN and Co will be roaming the street for Hb jobs with little chances of getting.

As an international student, ranking matters because the kind of school you attend goes a long way to dictate how your post graduate life will look like.

There are several schools that offer part funding or full funding for Ms accounting depending on your GPA. First evaluate your CGPA with wes, check your target schools and read about funding on thier website to see if your profile fits in. Send mails to coordinators of your proposed program for enquiries and they will reply you with adequate information

But I'm currently studying industrial chemistry, how feasible will it be to switch to a masters in chemical engineering?

PS: I'm considering the US or Canada

Don't mind lordoregon
Apart from life after school, the obstacle one will face before getting visa itself will be much more than a known ranked school

I'm doing my MS in Mech Engineering and currently taking 3 CIS courses as multidisciplinary electives because IT and business intelligence skills are valuable in the industry here. My 2 Naija friends who graduated from Electrical Engineering programs last December, currently work as Data Scientists at IBM and Amazon just because they took a CIS class on Computing for Data Analytics and were able to do their MS projects with Python. Will you say they were not passionate about Engineering?? I also know Industrial Engineering grads who completed MBA/Supply Chain/Procurement/Business Analyst internships last summer.

The best advise a recruiter from a career fair gave me was "Don't narrow your options by focusing on your passion alone, be ready to learn new in-demand skills". Also remember that Accounting doesn't qualify for STEM OPT, so even being a very good CPA still puts him in a tight timeline after graduation. That 12 months flies by so fast and some companies won't easily file H1B for a young grad in his first year with them! So consider that too.

What some folks have to understand is that we're just sharing opinions here. Take your time to smartly and critically choose what works for you.

well, from what u said, it is clear that u and others mentioned got into the us with their individual "initial career" before diversifying. I hope I am right! It therefore means, i can get into the state with accounting and also take some in-demand courses too.

The GRE can be used for five years. Even if you write today, you can still use it for five years

Good morning fellow nairalanders. Please, what are the basic things needed for a bank statement to be uploaded when you are requesting for an i-20?
Can a sponsor's corporate account be used?
How many months account balance is needed? Three or six months?
Thanks in advance good people

I used a three month total statement of account that wasn’t more than 1 month old as at when it was requested. In fact for another school I submitted two bank account statements.

I don't have any issues Bro. All I'm saying is that if you're willing to make the sacrifice of leaving home to succeed in Yankee, then you have to go beyond your "passion". Also if you're going to be spending $$$ then consider programs that would give you longer time to stay back and work after studies.
