The tucano costs fully loaded 15 million dollars. With spare parts the total cost for 12 of this aircraft should not exceed 200 million dollars but our frugal government bought 12 of this trainer jets for nearly 500 million dollars. What a great deal. We are paying nearly 40 million dollars apiece for this "advanced aircraft" .

Cos it's not fast and agile enough to evade air defence systems like S-400, Patriot or even old systems like Pantsir and BUK.

But it's a good start and will greatly help against Boko Haram.

This one can't fly fast and high enough to avoid AAG.
Look this aircraft is more effective than most gunships (combat helicopters) when it comes to launching air to surface attacks. The aircraft may mimic ww2 relic in outward mechanism but when it comes to functionality, this aircraft is equipped with modern avionics and advance weapon system and ordinance.
You might wana scoop more info on this formidable flying machine so that your perception will change for good. NAF is on the right move.

A moment ago, the complaint was that no equipment have been procurred for the military in the last 4 years. The govt then shows some new ground and air military hardware procured, and now the wailing has instantly changed to "US procures equipment without making noise".

Again, Nigerian military has been fighting and killing bokoharam without noise for years, but then Chad suddenly kills 100 bokoharam terrorists and these same Nigerians run into a deranged frenzy carnival, hailing Chad and mocking Nigerian military.

A week later, Nigerian military decides to do what these pathetic fellows want by showing gory pictures of terrorists murdered in battle; and then the same fellows who just hailed Chadian military 2 weeks ago are cursing Nigerian military again saying they're posting battle on social media. Pathetic humans!

Why are some people always happy when a tragedy befall this country? They were happy that the chief of staff to Mr president is death but they start crying when the government buy fighter aircraft to defend us.
For the past 16yrs they didn't buy one aircraft even when fuel was sold at it highest price, now that Buhari came on board and things begins to change they started campaign of propaganda and hate.

BTW, is it the same GEJ that commission a painted C 130 in Lagos without engine or another one. I have a first hand information about this aircraft because am in the airfoce.
Since the creation of this country no president had ever spent much on the airfoce like president Buhari.

all boko haram needs to get is the soviet mobile air defence missile system for far less than a fraction of the amount it cost to buy the tucanos and shoot all the tucanos down! Even a 2nd generation Russian anti aircraft missile system would obliterate theses tucanos like the Vietcong did to the U.S during the Vietnamese war
