1. Its main (Primary Navigation) is Ring Laser Gyro Inertial Navigation system. (No risk of jamming/Hacking)

2. Secondary Navigation is NAAVIC(IRNSS), This satellite navigation system covers East Africa, Entire Middle east,Parts of East Europe Entire China (The main target). its accuracy is 1 to 3.9 Meter with encryption. BTW next phase will cover entire earth.

3. Third Option is to use GPS.

So tell me why do you think that A Thermonuclear Device carrying ICBM will hit the target within 3.9 meter is not accurate?? People have 5 meter size of bedrooms. Bro Its a 1 Megaton Thermonuke not paint ball dear. One is more then enough to obliterate entire city like Lagos in flash.

And what do you know about satellite navigation system exactly and ICBMs ?

First things first

How the hell a body moving into space at speeds of mach 25+ is supposed to acquire satellite signals , given that navigational satellites beam their signals downward and are very weak. In space there is no GPS signals. During re entry at mach 25+ speeds at temperatures of upto 11000 degree centigrade on the surface of RV , no electromagnetic signal will be recieved ( or transmitted ) due to the super hot plasma surrounding the re entry vehicle.

Long story short

ICBMs don't use satellite based navigation system.

ICBMs use INS ( inertial navigation system ) sometimes augmented with stellar/celestial guidance.

Agni 5 uses a highly sophisticated ring laser gyroscope based INS. Its gives Agni 5 a CEP < 10 m. One of the most accurate ICBMs in the world ( Pic 1 & 2 ).


And what do you know about satellite navigation system in Indian military systems


Unlike GPS, IRNSS downlinks it's resticted positioning signals ( for military receivers ) in both L and S band which makes it more accurate in its area of coverage. The encrypted military signals have a accuracy of 0.1 m , more than that of GPS.

However IRNSS is currently limited to a regional level unlike GPS which is global . IRNSS will be expanded into a global system within next 5 years. ( Pic 3 )

Let's take the example of Brahmos missile which uses an Indian INS coupled to an unique and sophisticated Indian quad redundant IRNSS (navic)-GPS-GLONASS-GAGAN Receiver

It uses positioning signals from GNSS satellite constellations of 3 countries

1. India

a. Indian - IRNSS ( Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System ) navic. military signals.

b. Indian - GAGAN ( GPS-aided GEO augmented navigation ) satellite-based augmentation system (SBAS). Civilian signals.

2. USA

USA - Global Positioning System (GPS) - civilian signals.

3. Russia

Russia - GLONASS . military signals. India has agreement with Russia to use the military signals from GLONASS.

This means it's accuracy is the highest since it combines satellite signals from 3 countries.

And importantly it is fail safe because if USA switches off its GPS signals , the missile will still receive signal from 2 Indian satellite constellations and 1 Russian satellite constellation and hits it's target accurately.

If both USA and Russia switch off their signals the missile will still hit its target because it will continue to receive signals from 2 Indian satellite constellations.

China doesn't have such navigation reciever systems.
