have you ever been to ND? If you haven't, I won't want to discuss this any further. U can take it or leave it.
If those tribes that destroy the image of Nigeria outside the countryare not ashamed to call tribe, what gave you the impression that a ND will be ashamed?

Where is Niger Delta? The old Niger Delta republic agitation we know about was ijaw republic

The new Niger Delta we know includes ondo ,Edo , imo , abia , cross river, and akwa ibom , so which Niger Delta are you talking about?

Niger Delta comprises 9 states: Akwa ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Rivers, & Abia, Imo, Ondo.

You can see the first six states are d South South while d others are in Southeast & South West. However, they are all classified as Niger Delta bc they are oil producing states. In fact, d 9 oil producing states in the federation.

So, it will be very wrong for anyone to want to portray anything dat has to do with the 9 states outside its name (ND). It is only when an event does not warrant the inclusion of the other 3 (Abia, Imo, & Ondo) that they regard dat gathering/Forum as SS. Example if the forum is strictly geopolitical.

Also, tribalism is not really common in ND bc inter marriage amongst its divers ethnicity have established a solid cultural diffusion. Hence, you see a child whose father is Urhobo (Delta) while the mother Andoni (Rivers). Many of us Niger Deltans are having such background including myself; even down to my great grand parents. As it stands, i am related to almost all 9 ND states by blood lineage.

WE ARE NOT INFERIOR & WE WILL NEVER BE INFERIOR TO ANYBODY. As a people, we have embraced our diversity in tongues & culture in good fate thus we depict our solidarity by calling ourselves by our very own surname NIGER-DELTA.
I don't know of rivers state but here in Delta state tribalism play a big part even in politics where some part of Delta state don't see Anioma as real Deltans. Ogwashi ukwu which is place will never mention Niger Delta for you rather Igbo likewise Aniocha south and north because most of the communities there come originate from Anambra state .

im from the ND region, I feel reluctant calling my tribe on NL here though sometimes I call it, it's not inferiority complex, we are just trained that way, we just felt we should identify ourselves wen it's serious otherwise we choose to be addressed by ND boys or ph boy or Bonny guy, proud Deltan etc
The people that mostly identify as Niger Delta are mostly from rivers state and bayelsa state, in Delta state tribal politics play a big part and you will hardly see someone from Anioma that call he or her self Niger Delta

I dont really care about what you think about niger delta.. but you said something that caught my attention.. you mentioned GEJ is not ijaw.. can you say an egba man is not yoruba?? or an ijebu man is not yoruba..

most of the time you people just come to nairaland and spread misinformation.. even wikipedia identifies GEJ as ijaw man

now I know you'll say GEJ is another minority tribe in Bayelsa.. now I'll ask you to go ask anyone from that minority tribe if they're part of the ijaws or not

There was a thread created here on NL by a moniker okpalaAnambra.
He was asking if South south people have inferiority complex lol.
I'm just gonna explain things so we understand the south south people very well.
South southtribes unlike Igbos, Hausa or Yoruba does not actually go around telling people about their tribe, it's not something you find here in South south.
While the Igbos claim they own SE, Yoruba claim they own SW and Hausa is N, no tribe here claims SS and they are reluctant to mention individual tribe, it's different from inferiority complex
Just to confirm, Take a tour to port Harcourt and ask any port Harcourt born who owns portharcourt, trust me that person will be confused and most answer you will get is nobody own portharcourt but there are different part of the city that are populated by a specific tribe. I am sure 80% of NL don't know that GEJ is not an Ijaw man, but even if you call him Ijaw he won't reject.
This is one reason why a greater part of Rivers State have rejected to align with the Igbos cos u hear them saying Igbos is Rivers and Rivers is Igbo. SS tribe does not reason like that and will rather want a ND republic instead of Biafra.
Most chest beaters in SS will tell you "you know me? I be Niger Deltan boy o" or "I be ph boy o"
You hear musicians saying portharcourt firstson bla bla they hardly call tribe,
There are musicians like Dorcan mighty, Timaya etc, I tell you, most people don't know their tribe.
People like Gentle Jack, Agbani, Taribo west etc, except you are a ND, you won't know what part of ND they come from, though we have people that still talk about tribe here but they are few and can even be counted.
Therefore Ilegend was not ashamed of his tribe when he said ND. Don't get it twisted

How did you conduct this research because you ended up saying nothing.

Still inferiority complex..

Moreover the scenario is mostly among delta, Bayelsa and rivers..

others I doubt.

I've seen igbos in lagos saying I be lagos boy.. is that also inferiority complex..?? if you've grown up in a multi ethnic community you'll realise fast that tribe dont matter.. what matters are those around you..

Even others say I am an anambra boy, Imo boy and the rest...This is state and not tribe...even many use am delta boy, Benin boy..and so..

So using such term is a whole lot of Inferiority complex....

people from middle belt identify mainly by their state.. instead Iof tribe.. this isnt inferiority complex of any form.. I believe this is mainly the case because he/she may have come from a multi ethnic state or community.. and these tribe are mainly minorities.. ask a ijebu man if he knows the tribe called itsekiri or urhobo.. he'll simply respond by " that tribe dey for this Nigeria?? " most hausas igbos and yorubas are ignorant of minority ethnic groups around them

I can't remember ever calling myself ND or Hausa.

I am Igbo and proud.

ND is not a tribe but an economic community.

The only people you will always hear talking about ND or South South are those ikwerre and riverine areas in Rivers State and the ijaws. You hardly hear anyone from Akwaibom or cross River talking about ND or south south unless when money is involved...

Besides, is ND a people? No. That government lumped a group of people together because of their common interest does not make you a people..

When ikwerre people are there dragging that they own Port Harcourt you're here talking what you don't know.

honestly it's funny. I wonder if the igbos here on nl are the same igbos I have as best friends, the ones here can't go a day without getting into one tribal conflict or another, imagine waking up this morning maybe they didn't see any Yoruba or hausa to fight with they now gathered and decided to drag Niger Delta. We might not exactly Love each other here in the Niger Delta but one thing that is certain is that we do not engage in the show of shame the ones that don't have inferiority complex engage in here everyday, if it's not Igbo vs Yoruba it's hausa vs Yoruba or Igbo vs hausa. We no get that kind time here, they should leave us and look elsewhere for fight, just Igbo hausa and Yoruba see how they're fighting up and down without inferiority complex. Imagine a region like ours with more than 10 major ethnic groups mentioning I'm ibibio or I'm ijaw or I'm urhobo etc we'll just be engaging in the show of shame this igbos and the other two big tribes engage in. We like calling ourselves Niger Delta or south south or pH boy or warri boy or Calabar boy etc it's our business mbok

Everyone knows pidgin originated among the Niger delta people. I am yoruba & grew up in lagos state.
Pidgin was never common in lagos until the late 90's and 2000s when igbos started flooding into some markets & their apprentices couldn't speak yoruba. Before then all we used to hear in the markets, car parks, buses etc was yoruba. Thats why other ethnicities that live in lagos always understand yoruba.

Pidgin english was imported in & doesnt originate from lagos state. It is still not prevalent. Anyone who says otherwise is lying.
