These lecturers are very corrupt. They have multiple accounts. Many of them teach in private universities too and draw salaries from there in breach of federal civil service laws. That's why they are resisting application of BVN and IPPIS .
Hard truth . . . ASSU, stink with multiple corrupt practice

It's not just by bvn.

They will also provide their staff number.

That's why the FG has to get the information thru their vice chancellors.

I don't see any part of d article that says anything about staff number. Still u are yet to clear d air as to why d govt can't get d bvn itself since it has been paying into these same accounts over d years

Even if u did say that, how can u say that and emphatically allege twice that there's "high level corruption in d banking sector"? U still haven't been able to explain this "high level corruption" and what it entails. If u don't no how a guy has two bvn, then it begins by asking urself who issues bvn?

They may want to use the BVN to migrate them into IPPIS.

I am not a Lecturer

They are not civil servants and them drawing salaries for extra work is not corruption they are working and getting paid as is their right .
They are not stealing.
A fundamental misunderstanding many have is to think that Lecturers are Federal civil servants. THEY ARE NOT.
They fought for and won the right not to be treated as civil servants so it is normal for them to resist any backdoor attempt to reverse that.

I work with a university regulatory agency, the FG is not fair to the system likewise ASUU, yes as you mentioned most of these lecturers do visiting in more than two universities just to accumulate some wages but on the other hand they are doing the system favor, some universities don't have adequate lecturers so the need for other lecturers to visit them, if we stop this act then most universities will be short of staff to teach particular course, and if we suggest closure of those courses due to failed accreditation as a result of understaffing then what is the future of our children attending that university, even the universities we are having in Nigeria are not adequate for our prospective students, not all students that passed jamb will be admitted and this is because of the carrying capacity of those universities. So it's a one whole of dilemma, and it need a sacrifice from both the FG and ASUU

OK.
But come to think of it o, this BVN thing is flawed. It is flawed in the sense that one man can still have multiple bvn attached to multiple accounts. Just do it across different banks and claim you were unbanked or without account hitherto. As long as the fingerprints aren't fed into a supercomputer that checks every account holder against all other existing account holder, it is highly flawed.

Its not the way you see it.
Approach a banker to explain better.
Just know your finger prints are unique & you can't have different BVN for different ACCTS as the CBN has ur data.
Cheers!

Have you seen evidence of ONE SINGLE CASE.

Are we to believe that the government cannot provide evidence of JUST ONE CASE of "corruption" to sway public opinion in its favour

Or is it a case of the Lecturers are guilty until proven innocent?

I could remember vividly well during OBJ regime that no work no pay. Someone needs to shift the goal post. Considering the situation we find ourselves, I believe government has tried enough to pay February and March salaries. Many ASSU members are on borrowing to sustain themselves and their families. And the future look uncertain, so it will be wise to accept this offer before it is too late.

ASUU is not against IPPIS, they said their peculiarities should be captured. University staff who enrolled are regretting. The deductions are too much. FG wants to use the BVN to enroll them without their consent.

ASUU is seeing this as a ploy by the FG to register them on IPPIS through the backyard. The fact is, the FG already has all BVNs for ASUU members, which makes it suspicious that FG will again be asking for BVN.

The reason the so called advanced countries are ahead of us is because of how they manage their intelligentsia.
We have 2000 Nigerian trained doctors in the UK.
Think for one moment of the cost of producing them and the opportunity cost of not retaining them.

Two weeks ago we had a crisis in Rivers state about EXPATRIATES

why are we not producing people who can do the jobs of these expatriates

Why is it unlikely that a cure for coronavirus will come from Nigeria

This is an artificial and unnecessary crisis created by a government with a military mindset that does not value human capital.

The government is trying to control the universities something they couldn't do under the military government.

Now they want to have the switch for Lecturer salaries in Abuja where they can turn it off and on at will for any reason.

The reality is this CANNOT succeed. It will only succeed in reducing quality which is at an all time low.

If this is about fraud there are enough laws to tackle that.

This is about CONTROL.
They do this because their children do not attend these universities.

The people cheering need exposure to how the foreign universities that Buhari and Osinbajo send their children work.

It is very sad because the damage of 2 months ago battle cannot be undone in 20 years.

Eventually you end up with people not fit to teach in secondary schools as university lecturers

Oga what is wrong if the government has the switch to there salary? Who are the university lecturers working for if not for the government? Stop talking as if the lecturers have there own organ of government
Again nobody is stopping them from lecturing in private institution but the government is against them having multiple federal jobs when we have mass unemployment rate in the country

With this ground standing of ASUU not providing BVN for payment of their salary it's obvious ASUU members have multiple jobs making it difficult for people without jobs to have job.

ASUU members needs to free up the space so that other unemployed Nigerians can be employed as lecturers instead of lecturing in multiple universities and drawing multiple salaries.

I had a lecturer that taught me during my post graduate days he was lecturing in my university in Port Harcourt and also lecturing in Benue state at the same time, one week in Port Harcourt two weeks in Benue.

These are the universities i know, i am pretty sure he has more universities he's lecturing.
The best response. Very apt. That was how one them said he doubted if i'm a Ph.D student just because i was against their sabatical badderash. I emphasized on BVN update yesterday as the best solution to this trouble, in addition to why most graduates are unemployed. Im waiting for them, criminals.

The quality Lecturers will leave the chaff will remain just like with doctors. Intelligent people will generally not subordinate themselves to idiots if they have a choice.

In 1984 when General Buhari was Head of state
Doctors went on strike. He gave them something like 48 hours to vacate their official houses driving them out with soldiers.
He won the battle but lost the war. 30 years later he was seeking medical care in London.
Whatever the government is trying to achieve can be achieved through dialogue.

The government is suggesting there is corruption.
Well two things
1. They have not provided evidence of even ONE CASE
2. They have not provided evidence that this system will FIX CORRUPTION.

It is difficult to take the government seriously on this matter. Buhari and Osinbajo do not use Nigerian universities for their children. The question is how are those universities run ,which their children use?
