My Dad tied my hands and legs backwards and covered my nose with nose with handkerchief soaked in petrol. I for die that day if not for my Mum who came to my rescue.

This happened because he sent me fish, but i used the money to play PlayStation1 and followed friends to the river to catch fish,

I don’t know if I should call this punishment or torture.

Lol...

So many tori...

Childhood memories sha, very nostalgic...

Back then, my childhood friend Chijioke and I will often sneak down to the river in my hood. ( Mgbuosimini river in Agip village) for those who are familiar with P.H.

On school days we'd sometimes go for a bath in the morning and usually make it back home to get prepped for our afternoon session school then (Community Primary School, Rumueme).

On this particular day, Chijioke and I had lost touch with our timing obviously gotten carried away with our swimming and fishing expedition, school time had passed, and the entire Mgbuosimini were out in search of us.

Someone had made a suggestion for the search party to check out the waterside because there was hardly any week a drowning incident wasn't reported at the river.

We were already out from the water and hurriedly dressing up to set out and make it to school on time (so we thought). However, looking up, we were faced with a crowd headed by my dad and Chijioke's dad ( Mr. Maduka a.k.a Papa Chijioke). Na so we weak like dodo. We were urged not to bother dressing up.

Pertinent to chip in that my mum had given birth a week prior, and this very day was the seventh day when the baby will be named.

Having ordered us not to bother covering our birthday suits, that was how Chijioke and I were made to make the long walk of shame from the water/riverside all the way back to our compound while Papa Chijioke turned our ordeal into one where he'd show his singing skills by ordering the other kids who had gathered around to sing along as they chanted " flog them like a nama, flog them like a thief, they are not Rivers men, flog them like a nama". Mind you, as the chants were going on, my dad and Mr. Maduka took turns in flogging anyone of us that was closer to them, no discrimination, and no one minded his child. Na proper community beating.

The humiliation had continued like that until we arrived in our compound.

Our usually bubbly "face me I face you" compound was eerily and unusually calm that I had started wondering if Chijioke's and my truancy could have been responsible for this.

The beating had stopped when we got home while Chijioke and I took our positions in different corners close to our respective entrances, of course, still in the nudity. I was hesitant to go into the house because I knew a second round of beating with a belt while I did the infamous pick pin was awaiting me.

While perched on the corner and thinking how "if only I hadn't listened to Chijioke to go to the river, I wouldn't be in this mess", my kid brother (Vic) had run up to me stuttering " Tita, Tita, baby die". I had asked him, "you say wetin"? Thinking it was one of those his usual blabbing's seeing how he was still learning to speak, and yet, he had repeated those same words " baby die". Only then did it all make sense to me. The anger with which Daddy allowed the whip fly and drop on my lean Lil frame plus the unusual quietness of my compound. Oh boy, na so I burst cry oh part 2. This time I was crying for what awaited me in that room.

When I couldn't hold it any longer standing outside with the mosquitoes, I had gone in to brace the last fight.

True to my initial thoughts, if una see beating wey I receive that night ehn....at a point, I almost believed I had a hand in my baby sister's death.

Husband and wife combine forces pour their anger on me sotey I come dey ask my sef weda na dem really born me.

Life....

Nah I'm just kidding my mom beat me up then left me at the side of the road when I was 12 because someone swapped my school jacket with theirs and I didn't lie about it.

grin A lot of memories but there's this one I will never forget,

On this faithful day my dad left home in the morning around 9am or so, during the time we had vacation from school so I was always looking forward to the man leaving the house so I can go out

that day after he left for work I went to the flat above ours which was being used for a primary school then, they had vacated then but the son of the owner had it open so I went up to play table tennis not knowing I left the doors open, after playing for God knows how long I was coming downstairs and I saw my dad sitting in the balcony he didn't see me because he had his back to me I thought about sneaking down and going to mum's shop but I couldn't because I gats open door for am but that's when it dawned on me that he was sitting with dinning table chair and I left door open. To cut the long story short after I came down greeted him, The old man reset my brain with belt after having me kneel for like 1 hour

Is there anything my father didn't do to me?
He once broke my back bone with a log of wood from the fire because I didn't go to church
He took me to school on a day I pretended to be sick and flogged me in front of my classmates
My father had cables that he uses and I chop Cain like 3* every week
U won't even believe that I do abandon football matches just at the sight if him.
But in all, he made me what I am today

We
Kimzo:
I could remember walking home late from school in the evening, as I was playing football and my younger left me at school

I was surprised to meet my Dad in the living room, cos he wasn't supposed to be home at that time, I wasn't even aware my school uniform wasn't in me and that I had just my singlet and school trouser on, he asked for my shirt, I was surprised when I couldn't find it in my bag and inside my pocket (public school stuff).

The man just went in, before he came back I was on my way to school, when I got to the field where I was supposed to forget my Uniform, I was surprised to see one dirty shirt hung on the pole, I couldn't believe that was my uniform, I just took the cloth, went to school hostel, stole a friend's shirt, I was just walking back home crying and talking to God that I will become a Pastor if I don't die that evening..

On getting home, I saw my Dad well fined Cane, my Mum knelt and begging him, the man surprisingly was calm, until he told me to wear the uniform, behold, that shirt was almost touching my knee, Mogbe.

It wasdefinitely my Dad size, immediately the curse I sent to Femi, is definitely still affecting his life, to cut the long story shot, I went outside, held on to our Antenna pole, the rest na the dark patch I still have on my butt, and back... Ever since that day I no Dey wait make dem ring bell fo closing, I don Dey near class door, at the sound of the bell, I am already at the school car park waiting for bus..

I miss my Dad though, and I so much wish he is alive today... RIP DAD

Share your own story....

Nobody should pray for my experience and I don't wish my enemy this. I got a JAMB direct admission in 1994 but due to undue favouritism towards my siblings because of my parents archaic belief that the girl child were more valuable than the male child, and being the eldest child, my parents conspired and liked that they could not finance it. Some family friends offered to sponsor my education, especially one who at that time was a Judge of the Court of Appeal Enugu Division, but they blocked it. Instead they raised money for the women education while I had to work various jobs to survive.

Humiliation followed because of my inability to further my education but as fate will have it I was introduced to the world of finance and with my GCE became a ICAN chartered accountant and ACCA qualified and owning my own business. That also makes it a source of envy as I am the first born.

Close to my house there's this big govt land that gets really flooded when it rains. I think i'd be about 10 then. So myself and this crazy area boy took a bad fridge to this massive body of water and we started paddling and having mad cruise on our make shift yatch.

The joy was short lived though. As we got to a bend that would lead us to the next street, we passed right through the back of some buildings adjoining the swamp. I looked up at one of these buildings and right from a kitchen in that house someone was shouting " you own don finish today onoss". Omo it turns out it was my mom and she just left work to visit her co-worker that just delivered a baby. The shock nearly made me jump into the water.

Long story short, when I got home I now understood the meme below

There was a time when I was in JSS class. I scored zero in one of my math classwork so I tore the page away. When I got home, my dad looking through my books discovered that there was an ouline of a torn sheet, so he asked me to present the work I did that day. I started searching for something that didn't exist anymore cos I had thrown d paper away.. He got furious and dealt mercilessly with me.. The huge scars from the beatings are still very visible on my skin

Please let me not say all the uncountable punishment my parents gave to me while growing up. I have just made peace with the old man this year ( think 2 month ago ) after reading a book at onitsha (the book I am about reviewing with my WhatsApp family) . I was forced to put into practice what God commanded us to do. Narrating my ordeal all in the name of discipline will only hurt my feelings tonight but one thing I can promise my kids is that I will never do such to any of them. Don't mistake wickedness for discipline!

I remembered how my mum slapped me because of one house maid she brought from the village.
Guess what happened?? I told my mum the maid was possessed ( witchcraft) because the maid always attacked me at night. My mum beat the hell out of me and I travelled back to school the following (university) day
After two weeks my mum called me and apologized and even sent me 10k because the maid started attacking them at home at night. She attacked my dad, mum, brothers, sisters, aunt ....e.t.c
To cut the long story short, the maid was taken to a church for prayers , na there she begin to dey confess o!!
My mum sent her back to the village the very next day. angry

I am not sure I have ever been punished cause I was always too respectful. I can stay in an area for 10years me and smbodi won't have problems.

But as I became an adult I found out that human beings come in different shape and size of trouble.

So after drinking n smoking with friends I then realized it was already 9:00pm na so I leave party and girls begin rush back home only for me to get home by 9:45pm.That day na outside I sleep with mosquitoes and bats.
My Dad made sure I slept out by locking all entrances himself and holding keys.
According to my mum my dad didn't even sleep that night so that she can't steal the keys to open for me...While I was outside something kept telling me he'll let me in but later, later turned 6am.I Sha learnt my lessons that day Sha.If I comot go anywhere na 7pm I don begin enter house.

So many punishment that I couldn't remember the most painful onecheesy but I'll share this;
There was a time I went to play football in an abattoir, when I got home I was stinkinggrin I wasn't expecting my dad to be back by then and I was shocked when my brother told me he's back.
I climbed the fence and went to have my bathe in the hope that I might escape punishment. The moment I got inside the first thing I set my eyes on is a neatly tied wire with a robust cane beside it I new instantly that today will be a special beating session.
Off your clothes he said, I pulled off my shirt.
Your trouser too, in short, I was stark naked and wire dey land for my body I was crying like mumu and when I thought my plights are over he then told me to sit down and place my leg on the table, I could remember his words then "I'm not beating you again o, I just want to beat that leg that doesn't know how to stay at home. I received 12 strokes of the cane on my feet sotey I no fit place than feet on the ground for like 2 hours.
But guess what... Three days later I still went to play football but the spirit of playing football was successfully killed before I finished sec.skul. The last time I played football was when I was in SS2 first term

Mine was with my mummy!
Mummy, had just bought me a very new kitto blue rubber sandals.
So, this fateful day, I was still in nursery class at, Loveday nursery and primary school. At the close of the school, I was waiting for mummy to pick me up for home.
She was delayed that day, in the course of waiting for her arrival, I and some of my friends back then engaged ourselves in a game.
That game, gave me the punishment.
We started by, throwing our sandals up the roof of our class and we were happy seeing them rolling down under the influence of gravity!
So, this time around , I threw my sandal up again as usual, but to my greatest disappointment the sandal refused to come down (then it dawned on me that not everything that goes up will come down).
I tried everything to bring the sandal down, all efforts proved abortive. Nah that time I no say I don enter soup.
When mummy later arrive and I told, her what had happened, she vented all her anger on me!
She flogged me, right from my school to my room. My back was dripping with blood.
As little as I was (a nursery school pupil), I did not forget that event still tomorrow!
Later asked her why she flogged me so hard, she told me that,"that week she was out of pocket and couldn't help buying me another sandals that week,so she flogged me out of frustration."
She's still surprised, I can still remember the event.
Since that day, I no dey play when the school don close, let alone with my sandals!

My mum is the exact opposite of dad. All throughout my childhood, he never raised his hand to beat me. My mum was the chief whip of our neighborhood. Every child feared her. If you were chasing yourselves before and you suddenly run into her, you must adjust quickly and apply brake or else....

In the afternoons when we're returning from school, my friends know this for a fact that my mum will be outside in the sun waiting for me. Because of this, when we were a junction away from home, my friends will cross to the other side of the road just to avoid her trouble. You must not eat and your cheeks make noise or walk and drag your feet. She has all kinds of 'abara' they'll reset your brain.

When I was just learning how to grind pepper or egunsi on the local grinding stone, she'd stand on my neck like this with her atori. Any wrong moves on the stone is paaaa! I remember she'd beat me so hard I'd be crying and tears and mucus would drip into the pepper, she'd just tell me, "We will eat it like that"

Ah Maami! She's a great disciplinarian. I look back now and I couldn't wish for a better mum. E bami Kira fun Mama mi!!!!
