Fast forward, I give the married ones money secretly and give the other two single one cooked food everyday. I was gifted some food items I don't need so I decided to give it to one(married) of them, so I opened my burglary proof and stepped to give him, after which his wife who stammers started beating their child for nothing and I dropped my phone and started holding her, after the situation was calm I entered my house and remembered I had left my phone.
When I went outside they had gone in, so I knocked on their door and asked the man to help me call my number; It was not ringing anywhere outside so I got confused. Then he said that someone came into the compound; then the next thing he said was that the person had sent a text, I read it (It read- "It is safe, don't worry", I discovered that it was sent with my number so I asked to call my phone with his line; next thing his brother picked and said "I will give you the phone tomorrow just find something for me, Promise me you will"; next my neighbor took the phone and started saying "we will give you anything you want just keep the phone please" etc (before he took the phone I heard his wife stammering in the background telling the boy in a low voice what to say).
Today, he asked for money so I asked him to ask the person to come to the compound for a small reward ( he brought a toutlike guy and I just took my phone and ran into my house, I heard them abusing me and saying am stingy and ungrateful... Many hurtful things.).
Am so afraid to come out of my house because am scared of touts and I don't think I'll come out of my shell after this to be nice again to people who aren't family. I have decided to stop helping any of my neighbours ever again since I also heard the rest laughing and saying "she for give the guy even if na 2k, she is very wicked etc...
The present condition has changed people, be careful a lot of people don't think anymore before they act. Am still in shock.

It's a pity u encountered real thieves who are your neighbor and ungrateful animals.

Having seen your phone, you should have pretended by pleading to them that you don't have money with you, but next day you will look for 1k to give. Behave as if nothing happened as you have known the kind of people they are. 1k will not kill u. As u have done good to them, God will fight 4 you.

My family is not here and I am embarrassed to bring very old friends who live here to my house since I know its a temporary arrangement before I fully get back on my feet and get a befitting abode. The worst thing to do in the midst of the very poor is to show that you are rich without
adequate protection.
From your explanation, you aren't that rich but just want to help strangers.

Don't give them a kobo. If you do, they will be extorting you on a monthly basis using fear and touts.
Report the case to the nearest police station(not for arrest).
Make sure a policeman follows you home(not for arrest).
Even better if you can get some soldiers to visit and conduct them round so they are seen(not for arrest).
Their appearance will send a message.

Finally, run from that place as soon as possible.
Don't wait until you have enough, seek help from family and friends, and don't let ego kill you.

I understand dear, shits happens. Like a poster wrote above, some other methods to send messages are involve, a soldier or police team visiting you, you got to be mean to your neighbors. Rich person is endangered species to poor vicinity, I have the same fate with you now and I'm moving out soon maybe end of the year because I just packed in here this year January after my school last year. I allows my men visit me like once in 2weeks, some comes with cars and some other comes in other endowed form, that show my neighbors that I got some well to do men and strong for that matter. I show love to neighbors but I'm fvcking mean on the other hand because person don't joke with my intelligence be you tout or cultist because I will waste you. If I look at the class of place I live now, I'm not suppose to invite my friend around but they know me well and know that I will only be here for some mean time and my hustle will always put me where I want to be. So in your case as a girl, stay as introvert with no friend as neighbors invite some good Army or Police friends for meal and mind your business at all time.

Don't report to Police yet or you can do that and make sure them don't harrass anyone in your hood. Sort the your guy or the neighbors thief, then be mean to everyone and mind your business

Op listen, as I advised you through my earlier input herein to handle this situation with wisdom. Involving police or any law officers is good but might turn out to expose you to more danger than you expected. These guys are not only ur neighbors as they've other of their gang members outside ur vicinity.

0nce u get them arrested u expose yourself to danger. Giving out a token to the guy will do u good since u have gotten ur phone than getting them reported.

Remember u are a lady and stay alone and people advising u to go to the police or get army involved doesn't stay with u and will not be there with u if anything happens.
