The only part I find intereating was where he said private coys should find private means to convey their workers to work to and fro.

As for the weekly remittance, I honestly don't know what to say about that other than, some level of honesty, understanding and faithfulness will be the only way to resolving this.

@mrjaydee, you would need to drive minimum of 2weeks with the stipulated hours movement is allowed to be able to come up with a good amount your driver or anyone you wish to drive for you. A 1 or 2days test drive wont give u d answer U need. Or better still you drive urself when ever u r free or park your call till every thing normalize

Uber won't cos they HV set profit projections for the year n it wz based on 25%. Nobody saw corona hitting hard in Jan.

safety guidelines like

1.no of riders allowed to board to practice some sort of social distance.

2. From 3pm ,eliminate penalties arising from cancellations.

However, as transportation is essential to movement from one point to another, we can anticipate that you would be allowed to operate.


One thing we are also certain about is the fact that the corona virus is here and we shall be living with it for a while.

Same also applies to the concept of social distancing which is being adopted.

As we await a more intricate description of the model of economic re-opening to be adopted by the Lagos State government, we can already project those businesses or livelihoods that will be toned down for a long time or completely redefined/lost as the new world order demands.

Yes, the unavoidable fact that nation’s across the globe are being compelled to remodel their lives for the foresable future while reserving a seat for the corona virus pandemic is undeniable.
And this will last until there is an acceptable vaccine worldwide.

So, back to the Crux of the matter,
As an e-hailing driver, this is not the time to be desperate or hasty.

We know the times are hard and we all need to heck a living for ourselves and families.


The e-hailing companies are going to through a lot of baits out at you, but do not forget that most of their staff would be working from home with little or no risk involved, minimal operational cost and no care or cover for you should an emergency arise. Or we await such announcements though.

My advice to all drivers goes thus:

1) BE INNOVATIVE: This is the time to be innovative. Spread your e-tantacles and think for yourself. There are many other things that can be done hands on to fetch you a living. Dig yourself into them and relax on e-hailing, it’s not likely to pay your bills for the next couple of months.

2) FORGET ABOUT RENTALS: If you rent a car to drive, I would candidly advice that you hold on for the next 3 to 4 weeks and watch the dynamics that would unravel.

Those who own vehicles can experiment and you would use their timeline and earnings to determine what is realistic to earn, pay, and save.

Night life is dead. Schools will remain closed. An estimated 50% of private businesses and employed persons will likely go temporarily or permanently jobless.
So what’s the rush.
A lot of partners would be pushing their cars on you right now, but you might be making a great mistake.

And if you must rent, cut you rental to no more than half what you paid before lockdown. I recommend 10k weekly for now.

3) HIRE PURCHASE: It is understandable that this is an intricate subject for those presently on higher purchase schemes.

But don’t be deceived by anyone, there has been a force majeure and the terms of your hire purchase payment can and should be redefined.
Get a good lawyer, get your driver associations or groups involved and make a good presentation.

I suggest you start by requesting to take the next month off, and use the analysis from that period to redetermine your realistic responsibilities to your principal.

I repeat again, don’t be deceived by anyone that the terms of your HP can’t be rescheduled under the present rearrangements we find ourselves.

Try to get your facts straight next time before writing sh*t down... there is hunger everywhere, there choices to be made. It's either you go out and hustle or starve to death.. Either way a decision has to be made ... Even uber in some parts of USA is still operating......
If you prefer for drivers to sit home and not risk their lives.. I hope you can provide other means of livelihood for them to feed their family other than begging on nairaland .......

And I do have a strong feelings that they will be more drivers looking for partners.. Due to some partners selling off their vehicles... This is my own opinion for now... We just have to see how this whole thing will play out

Hmm... Pool ride share system? If I'm a rider, let's say my colleague and I plan on taking a ride, the only logical thing would be to book one ride and share the cost.Thats assuming Bolt/Uber decides to implement your ride sharing system which I think would definitely not work.

Car owners should also start looking into reducing rental fees at least pending when lockdown subsides and the economy picks up...

Took a quick survey of about 15 people that I know regularly use e-hailing as their daily commute. 9 of them says they’ll use their personal cars for now and ride share with colleagues, seeing as they already share the same work space. Out of that 9, 6 says they would go back to e-hailing if they cant handle the stress of driving in Lagos traffic. 2 are hoping on hitching rides with neighbors, and 4 says they’ll continue using e-hailing, as it is the safest option for them.

I think partners should try to either sell off the vehicles or wait till the situation improves.. The cost of maintaining and cost of parts has increase now .. The dollar is about 450 to naira ...

For now partners should hold on till things improve .. The operating cost is not worth the rental delivery , the cost of parts will increase at least double the previous cost.

And this is why I was hammering that people should get cars like Honda civic due to cheap parts. Toyota car owners go hear am well well ,cost of parts are about to triple..... And if partners fail to heed my advice, than more junk cars will pile the roads, until the cars are no longer safe to either pass inspection or the cost of maintainence is eating up all the profit

Uber original model was in the direction of POOL ride share system (where as u drive u can share ur ride with min of 2 passengers)

The pool ride system can be done in a way that a rider can add or share with ONE friend and an ADD-ON fee is attracted (how the total cost is paid is left to the rider and his friend)

I believe there’s already an option to split your fare and carpool, most people would just rather split the fare within themselves than use the built in app feature.

The market share is still open... once people hear that uber drivers are been so strict with protective measures- they will be comfortable and will start choosing cars they enter

Very good point ... Most partners will likely prefer to collect their cars back and than drive themselves to the office... it will help reduce their risk level of getting the virus, but wait what about when they get to the office? Their colleagues that enter public transport can also be another risk factor.. It seems either way person can't totally avoid getting the virus ...... This is like saying 1million ways to die ,choose one
