Ikwerre say it is Igbos that copied their language and corrupted it. I am not saying they are right but that is what they are presenting as defence.

Really? If Ikwerres are from Bini, you would be expecting their language to be Bini, not so? So Ikwerre people from Bini migrated down to present day Rivers state, settled there, forgot their Bini language, came up with a brand new language which Igbos now copied?

I will not die of laughter on Naira land

They are Ikwerres and Benin.

Maybe but that does not explain how Ikwerre people forgot their Bini language and names and now speak Igbo and have Igbo surnames

For example, Wike, Amaechi, Odili are well known Ikwerre sons of Rivers. Why do all three have Igbo surnames rather than Bini surnames?

The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare said his visit to Port Harcourt was in line with the tradition established by his late father.

Following the footsteps of my father who came on a thank you tour after his coronation, we recall with nostalgia my father’s public service in Ahoada many years ago. Port Harcourt, and Rivers State is indeed a second home.

The Oba of Benin said his visit was aimed at strengthening friendly and close relationships between the people.

“I am here to strengthen the friendly relationship and close affinity of our people. History has it that some of the tribes here trace their ancestry to Benin. These include the Ikwerres, the people of Ahoada and Omoku,’’ he said.

He added that he was also in the state to meet with other traditional rulers to influence the process of development.

“I will meet with the South-South monarchs who were present at the coronation so that we can share ideas with them on ways of strengthening the traditional institution in Nigeria and ensure the development and wellbeing of our people.

“We would like to use this opportunity of this visit to appreciate the cordial relationship between the good people of Edo State and the good people of Rivers State,’’ he said.

He extended a special invitation to the government and people of Rivers to participate in the celebration of the Igue Festival

https://news-af.feednews.com/news/detail/ce2a2c3b0fed8c409cc2994fa90c03b1?client=news does calling ikwerre igbo becarefull

I do not know if it is the right thing to do by leaving some of the goons from Nigeria to dwell in their ignorance. Oba Ewuare's father was a mere Clark in Ahoada Division in the 40s, 50s or 60s. Most areas under Rivers and Bayelsa States were under Ahoada Division administratively. Even Port Harcourt which was ordinary Onumiri and later became city was under Ahoada Central District. The Chairman of Ahoada Division was Chief J. Nwuke.

A true Ikwerre man Iwhuruoha in that matter will not say Ikwerre is Igbo.

Ikwerre, Emohua, Port Harcourt and Obio Akpor ancestral home is Benin, and since i was born my grand father, grand mother to my father and mother never told me that our Ikwerre has a link to Igbo.

Ogbakor Ikwerre has repeatedly rebuke those that says Ikwerre is Igbo, remember last year when Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo wanted to hold a world conference in Port Harcourt UST campus to be precise, Prof. Simeon Achinewhu then Ogbakor Ikwerre president general stopped them from holding that world conference that Ikwerre land Port Harcourt is not Igbo land.

The Berom and Langtan people of Platuea, the Ebira people Kogi and Kwara people speaks Hausa, bears Hausas names does that make them Hausa people.

This force attach must stop.

Years back i witnessed first hand one ikwerre armed robber that was caught why trying to steal from an Igbo trader. When asked of his origin his response was that abum nwanne unu (I am your brother in Igbo language ) I expected him to speak in his ikwerre (benin) language but that wasn't the case. The only solution to this madness is if Ikwerres renounce Igbo names and adopt Edo names. Secondly Ikwerres should learn bini as their language.
Lol, I experienced the same, even down to them living as Igbos in the north, they are Igbo outside rivers state, but not Igbo in rivers state. Very confused Benin people

You are funny. So if an Igbo tells you that Ikwerre are not Igbo, that Igbo automatically becomes Ikwerre!? Are you begging Ikwerre to be Igbo or what? Amaechi you mentioned married Igbo wife so it isn't surprising if he claims Igbo knowing the influence of wives on their husbands. Even FFK is now a Biafran. The Ogbako Ikwerre the umbrella body of Ikwerres say they are not Igbo. Go to the heart of Ikwerre land and tell them they are Igbo and see if you will come back alive.
Shut up, you have no shame, is ogbako ikwerre you like to call so much history or is your head blocked with stupidity.
Come to the north and see the few ikwerre's in our town hall meetings. Ogbako ikwerre like it's one group of educated scientists.
Shift joor, Benin person.

If after watching this video/study, and someone will still wake up to say that white is black for whatever political reasons. Then they can go to hell. Igbos are too big and progressive to beg anyone to identify with it.

When it is time, we will go with our kith and kin that accept our heritage while those that are still confused about their origin can go to hell.

We will always extend a hand of fellowship to our brothers outside the SE and it is left for them to grab it or ignore it. Our brothers in Delta State have always identified with us and even suffered for the cause of Igbo just like others but some of those in Rivers expecially Ikwerre have remained myopic. The good news is that other Igboid areas in Rivers like Asa, Ndoki etc accept their Igbo legacy with honor. So, by the time they rejoin us, we will see how the Ikwerres would be able to stand up to the Ijaws in P.H talk more of the Niger Delta. The humiliation they faced in old Rivers State will be a child's play.

Please we should always try to ignore this issue because the more we argue it, the more some efulefus will be feeling like they are special.
If it was oil that made some people to deny their roots, then good luck to them as oil loses value and gas takes over which we have in abundance.

Lagos has a huge impact on the SW region, Abuja has a huge impact on the NC region but P.H has no impact at all on Aba that is just a few killometers away how much more to the SE region. Instead it is even Aba that has a huge impact on P.H. Just like other neigboring cities, P H even relies on Aba for the effective running of the city. I know what I'm saying, if Aba is closed on P.H., they would have serious problem but if P.H is closed on Aba, Aba will hardly feel it.

Let's continue building our cities and region. Let's invest only in areas that identify with us. Crude oil belongs to the past and industry, trade, commerce and services that belongs to the future, we have it firmly under our control.

Let us shun this guys completely because to be honest, we really don't need them.

I mean it's quite simple, you're not Igbo right? fine. Please while at it renounce all your Igbo names and even the language, manner of dressing and culture as a whole. Then hold a summit with your Benin brothers, announce under one collective body and voice that your people have how adopted the Benin language, names and traditions.

But until that is done, you WON'T run away the Igbo tag when political expediency arises and doesn't favor you, and then turn around tomorrow and decide you are Igbos when it favors you...my culture is my pride and identity... and I won't allow some riff-raffs use us for "pick & choose" anymore. Enough is enough.
