Good day house, please, I need advice. I came to the Uk Jan this year to study a 2 Years program. I am a married woman with kids so my husband and I planned that he would apply for dependant visa with the kids by March. Unfortunately due to the lock down, they couldn’t get the biometrics done and the worst happened,my hubby died from covid 19 related disease last week.My life shattered but I have to keep moving

I am planing to return to Nigeria to get the kids for biometrics but my heart bleeds for my husband after all his sacrifices . I am considering applying for his mum so she can help with the kids while I run around. Please, how can I go about this?? There’s enough fund to cover her maintenance fee.

@Just wise and all kindly advise.

please accept my deepest condolences and I pray God gives you clear directions and speed in any decision you take.
may his soul rest in peace. Amen

@Skymoore1004 ...Can you just learn to calm down and see things in perspectives. She didn't just come here to get a Yes or No answer, she came to seek counsel and possible ways of getting it done. Politely make your contribution and allow others do theirs as well. The lady will sit over all and make her final decision. You have no right to say someone's suggestion is needed or not.

It's a lie oooo on this one I support skymoore1004, what shes/hes saying is true. She even said she has the finances to bring her kids but people started over thinking the matter. Shes already in alot of pains all she needs is support and not something to tear her apart the more.

So sorry for your loss. May his soul rest in peace. amen.

I’m not an emotional person but this one got me.

I’m really sorry to read this, be strong and take sometime to get yourself together again.

Please get the death certificate and attach it to the application for your kids and your mother Inlaw then explain in the form what happened..

Apply for dependant visa for your kids and your mother inlaw and explain in details why you need your mother inlaw(considering what happened) Request that they issue her visiting visa if dependant visa is not feasible.

Give this a try as this is an exceptional situation,

Does your mother inlaw work or doing business?

My mother in law doesn’t work, as she’s over 70 years.

Thank you all for the condolence messages. I can’t even think straight for now.

Hello,

Please which route are you applying for; School Direct or University based?

Which stage are you in the application process?
Thanks.

University based
I have applied to different schools bother directly and through UCAS. UCAS application cost £1 and I was able to apply to 3 institutions at a time. But when an institution rejects my application, I can substitute with another institution.

Based on your explanation, you don't need a health and criminal records declaration at this stage.
As far as Initial Teacher Training is concerned, all the documents you need aside your credentials will be processed in the UK. The one that is similar to the one you mentioned is the Police Report that is issued in Nigeria, but I don't think universities normally request for it. You can only add it to your files for visa processing if necessary.

Once you have submitted your application, the universities have up to 40 days to make their decisions. Some will request for UK Naric during the process, once they are satisfied with your application, you will be called for an interview.

Some of the forms they will send to you are as follows:
- Medical Assessment
-. Safeguarding checks(Disclosure and Barring
Service)
- School Experience Form.
You will pay for them once you have been offered a place. You should be preparing for your interview by now. Please make adequate preparation.
Do you have an adviser assigned to you from the Department for Education?

Did you not check the marketability and graduate prospects before applying? Management is a general programme, so you can work in any sector- more of business, hospitality sectors etc.

It’s a common course so it’s not in demand much. Can easily find a British graduate with that degree. So it’s left for you, to make use of any opportunity offered.

Opportunities like:
-Placement
-Internship
-Part time work within that study
-Volunteer work (manage projects or team work etc)
-Attend Career Fairs and sell yourself to potential employers.
-Update your Cv regularly and get help from professionals in your uni to review it.
-Start applying for jobs at least after 1st semester via LinkedIn, Indeed.com etc.
-Make vast connections because you never know.

Anything that can boost your experience & skills, just engage.

Most importantly, excel & come out with nothing below Merit. Salford is a good university & Manchester has a lot to offer.

Jisike.

If you plan to stay after the study, you should ask yourself the following questions:
1. What knowledge and skills do I currently have?
2. What knowledge and skills will I acquire in my MSC?
3. What kind of job(s) can I get by virtue of having the MSc?
4. What will be the comparative advantage for an employer to employ me, and not someone from the UK or EU?
5. What do I have/know that stands me out when it comes to landing a job?
6. What industries do I want to work in?

Next.
A. Go to google or to any UK job website (such as Indeed or total jobs or Reed etc).
B. Search for your dream job
C. Carefully study the requirements.
D. Sincerely ask yourself: “Do I meet the criteria?”
E. Upgrade your skills to make them relevant, and compatible with the job roles.

On a lighter note:
Did the university ask you to write a personal statement on why you chose the course? What was your answer?
During your visa interview, if you are asked why you want to spend over 10,000,000 naira for an MSc what will you say?

Thanks.
My choice for the course was majorly cos of my love for biz and entrepreneurship. Secondly, I figured out its a foundational course that can allow me to further (and buy more time) in case i choose to switch into academics

The initial course I chose was International corporate finance but later found that intake was for January. Hence settled for Management. These fit into my previous line of experience. Also thinking I could switch to/secure jobs in related lines e,g accounting after taking a professional course

But lately, considering the marketability as specific to the UK

It's cool as long as you've got other skills. You'd be needing certification or specialist knowledge in specific fields; this will make it easier for you to get a job at management level.

No one can tell you a course to do because no one here knows your core skills, strengths and weaknesses in relation to your professional capabilities.
Think about what skills you have or what skills you can build to complement your anticipated MSc Management degree and what you see yourself accomplishing with those skills. Develop your Unique Selling Point and your unique set of qualities and you'd fit just right into the professional workspace here.
PM skills, ability to use industry specific software (PM/accounting/IT), Analytics e.t.c are skill sets that can complement a degree in management. Some of the skills you've developed in your professional pursuits can also be highlighted and tailored to fit JDs for your target areas (Note that your choice of words must be deliberate; This will also ensure that your CV is not dropped by the Applicant Tracking System (ATS) used by organisations to filter applications).
Also ensuring that your CV/LinkedIn profiles match your experience and anticipated industries for future employment is key as it helps to get your foot in the door to at least give you a chance of demonstrating at the interview stage that you've got what it takes and you aren't a fluke.

That is helpful, take your time and draw up the letter and apply as soon as the embassy opens and flights between Nigeria and the UK reopen again.

You also need to speak to your school for a time off studies as well.

In my opinion, MSc. Management is a total waste of money especially when you already have up to about 5 years experience in the same. Honestly, I don't think you'd gain anything tangible. The curriculum is usually too broad not zeroing on a specific aspect of management.

My advice however, as you have begun to loose interest in sales, is to find and choose a program with specialization in other aspects of Management - Human resources, accounting, etc.

In addition to this, @skymoore's advice on related part time work, internships and certifications would come handy while studying ANY management related program in the UK.

Cheers

Tbh I feel like anyone going to the U.K. to study management or international business etc, just wants to spend money and enjoy abroad for a while.

You need to be a pro, before a British person can employ you to manage them (in Terms of HR).

In terms of business management, I wonder which business one is really going to manage for them. U.K. is a service country than a production country. It’s not common to see a made in U.K. product. Most companies there are international companies who are looking to higher top notch Brits or Europeans. They do hire blacks too, but you have to be well damn good!. Your work experience and skills got to be on point eg years of working with international companies like PWC, KPMG, P & G etc.

Supply Chain Management is the one that can even work because of the logistics system in the U.K. Business Analytics, Accounting are feasible too.

So whether he/she changes program as advised by Stenon, you go still need to struggle your way to get a TIER 2 job to stayback. In this case, you’re not just fighting for work with Brits/Europeans, you’re also fighting with your fellow international students that rush to study such courses.

I have one guy there now that’s doing marketing grin

Oga said he only chose it because it’s easy to pass and gives him time to work. grin grin

I think it's time for everyone to be very blunt on this forum. Travelling to UK for some irrelevant courses is just out of it. Please if you have money to spend, spend on something that can secure good future for you and your family . Go for courses that is an Avenue for good life. Getting 8-11 p/hr work after graduation is nothing to survive, settle down, get a car/ house and live a comfortable life.

The bolded above was me some years back grin

Although for a fresh or recent graduate, management trainee positions with the likes of the above mentioned multinational businesses could be another option to explore. I almost gained entry into quite a number of them. I would usually scale through stage 1 and 2 of the recruitment process but stage 3 which is quantitative reasoning (my weak point) would always mess me up. undecided

Shuddering at the thought of getting paid 8-11 p/hr work after graduation, after all the investment! Personally, after graduation anything less than £25/hr as a starting wage will make no sense to me.
