This is hate speech.
Please, leave DOCTORS out of this corrupt practice.
There is no reason why any doctor will connive with an unscrupulous wife for a token by inflating bills. sad

emmanuelewumi:

It happens even in private hospitals. How some women inflate the bill and settles the doctors and the accounts staff of the hospital.

I am interested in the details of Gani's WILL.
Is it a public document? Kindly share.
Thanks.

ukay2:

That is why WILL protects the dead and his desires for the living he left behind.

Especially if a good Trust is executing the WILL. Everybody will comply to the dead person wishes.

I now see WILL as a kind of insurance to protect ones investments after demise.

I learnt so much from Late Gani's WILL.

Professor Thomas. U. Agan the CMD of Unical Teaching Hospital was prosecuted by the Efcc for fraud.

Dr. Olufemi Omotosho, the former CMD of FMC, Owo was arraigned by the EFCC for fraud. His own is particularly funny because he got his lawyer to bribe the Efcc prosecutor and the lawyer got arrested. Both are being tried for attempting to corrupt a public officer.

Gani's will is being used to teach lawyers how to draft Wills. The Nigerian Law School actually adopted Gani's Will as part of its syllabus.

Even other countries like The Gambia are now using it to teach their lawyers.

No hard feelings.
Just that am surprised we are not excluding the noble profession from petty "stealing ". I stand to be corrected sir, why would you say a doctor will connive with a wife to inflate a bill. This is beneath the profession.

My intention is not to argue with you.

Waoooooo

The WILL is very detailed.

Every investors should have a WILL and employ a good company or Lawyer to execute the WILL instead of allowing ones relations fight over your investments.

I am totally blown away.
I learnt so much reading it. And I must confess that this thread is about the most important ever on Nairaland. It has been a blessing to me.
Many thanks to all the gurus in the house, you are highly appreciated.

@ emmanuelewumi et al

Is there a way of knowing Gani's networth at the time of his demise?

But it will be a major worry, if all your income goes to the same account and both of you are signatories to the account.

You will need her approval for all withdrawals and expenses

Agreed, however I believe you can both mandate your bank to accept either of the signatures, or both when a required. I and my spouse operate a particular account this way.
Although, it will work only for a couple with complete mutual trust.

I once asked one of my elderly clients to consider writing his Will and the man refused to call me since that day. grin

A colleague shared a story of how he told his Uncle to write his Will and his Uncle tongue-lashed him before walking him out of his house. Later, the said uncle dued without a Will and the children started fighting. It was my colleague they called to help them resolve and share the properties.

In this part of the world, a lot of us are yet to embrace the practice of writing Wills. We see it as a bad omen but that's grade 1 ignorance.

From experience and for peace. Apart from joint account which can be for investments, running expenses. It I better to have individual accounts, for flexibility and convenience

If it is true, that is financial and emotional irresponsibility of the highest order. I think men are the cause of the types of ladies they attract.
Although it is debatable

A woman that has been good and supportive deserves a part of the will even if she chooses to remarry. She definetly would have made sacrificies for the man to acquire such properties by way of delayed gratification... etc. I would never put such clauses. Let us not encourage such acts.

I love my wife and even if she chooses to remarry after I am gone I will only wish for her a happy life with the new man and not take away from her what she had also contributed by way of delayed gratifcation etc. A good wife will honour you even in death.

A lot of men remarry when they loose their wives (inheriting their wives possessions without a will) so why should it be different for women.....

The problem is not with the woman remarrying. The problem is the type of man that she marries who may deprive his children from his wealth. Besides if it was the other way round, would the woman name the husband as a beneficiary? Emotions kill business

Seems the low rate of NTB we are seeing will stay for a long time because of the excess liquidity

children will say my mummy has paid my school fees, whereas it was the father who gave excess money to the wife to pay for school fees

My uncle (of blessed memory) told me this when I was about to get money. He said sometimes take your kids out. Because if you give money to your wife, they would not be able to discern between daddy and mummy's money.

On the flip side a colleague once narrated a scenario between his 8 year old son and the mum. The boy noticed that whenever they demand for something, the mom always says let us wait for daddy. The boy noticed this and asked the mom one day: Everytime daddy, everytime daddy, mummy don't you have your own money?

So far the argument has been men making a will, no discussion about women making Will's also or is there a law against that.
Men always thinking when they die, women always thinking when they enjoy. Each entity is granted his thoughts. Statistics shows that it happens exactly like that.
Whether or not you write a will, always have a positive outlook about life. Spend time with your kids. Never accept that your wife make request to you on behalf of your kids, you are not a blood sucking demon they cannot approach.
Encourage them to talk directly to you also otherwise in old age, you will become a lonely man who was never there. Fatherhood is more than just an ATM pin. If you make it all about what you provide, the kids will be distant from you and have no relationship with you as soon as they can meet their own needs.
