I know feudalists will jump over this to justify central rule. I hope the national police is serving you well in breaking the laws and letting free movement around the country for a fee because they are not real stakeholders in security of various localities.

I rather choose to see a half full cup in the Wike saga and say that is why we should push ahead with state police but the governor's actions will lead to more study on the pitfalls, and better legislation to checkmate these kind of excesses.

Covid 19 has clearly shown a need for the decentralisation of the Nigerian state in many ways due to lack of capacity at the centre and discordant social values between federating units. The advantages of domiciling social responsibility to localities far outweighs the fear of abuse.

Anyway no one has said state police system will replace the existing federal police system. They can be complimentary as being practiced in several countries of the world. It is a matter of the constitution, law and the deliniation of power.

He is right.

We are not democratic and civil enough to start having state police.

Imagine state police in the hand of Fayose or Wike or Sani Yerima? Who will breath in such a state if the governor has not granted such luxury?

We are also too heterogenous to have states with their own police populated by the local tribe, while the state is largely cosmopolitan like Lagos, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Warri, Benin.

Igbo man stop spilling trash, you don’t know anything about Igbo abandon properties in Rivers state. You igbos where in charge of Old Eastern region, use that opportunity to rename our communities, and brought biafra against our wish, killed a lot of our people because we refused to be part of your biafra and now you’re crying forgetting your wicked actions against Ikwerre people, and other parts of Niger delta especially calabar massacre by biafran soldiers.

The Gov. warned, he will demolish any hotel that goes against the order of the govt and he did the right thing because the management of that hotel is a saboteur, and a threat to the life and properties of Rivers people. I don’t care if the property belongs to Ikwerre man or any other tribe in Nigeria. It is a good example to others, the rest hotels will all close down with this example.

If my memory serves me right and my sense of geography is correct,I thought the Rivers state government shut down only two local government areas?
1. Port Harcourt Local government area.
2.Obio Akpor local government area.

Please is Eleme part of these two local government areas?

Except the place was a criminal hideout for kidnappers or ritual killers, there is no reason for destroying that place. Power will come and go...Wike should be careful, he should ask Ihedioha.
That is why you don't need to conclude that he just decided to demolish it for a flimsy reason.

Must say, Wike has gone to the extreme and seems his power drunk already, acting like a dictator at a time like this doesn't and won't make people think, you are law enforcing. Several things your advicers should have cautioned you about before you demolished the said hotel..
1. The number of people working in the hotel, how do u expect them to survive.
2. Some the employees of the hotel are breadwinners of their family.
3. That building cost a fortune
4. There are better ways to have treated this case than this you have done.

You just complete the missing puzzle that talks about your true definition of being called WikedWike...

Remember pride beget a fall.. no leader/governor for life, it's temporaral and lastly put yourself in the shoes of the owners of those properties. How would you feel.

Peace Out......

you don't know
I never claim to know the reason before, I only said people should not conclude on the matter. This was how many of you here concluded on the matter of a Nigerian guy that was murdered in his apartment in Turkey some months ago. Many of you said the guy was into a shady business, some even said he was killed by a fellow Nigerian. But when the report of the investigation came out, he was murdered by some Turkish citizens.
Many of you here are too quick to judge without proper reasoning.

I am already thinking of what will happen once they sign the infectious disease bill, many Governor will just demolish opposition party building, I like Wike but destroying a building instead of sealing and release after the pandemic means tyranny

The man get mind. I never believed he was capable of even lasting as a governor when he came in in 2015. He looked like a boloh.

The silly man is even going on air to confirm his extrajudicial punishment thereby giving the owners the necessary evidence to later prosecute his govt for compensation - someone should tell him that he too is not above the law and that he cannot go about flouting or making up laws as he so pleases.

I think this is excessive. Though it is hard to sincerely defend the disobedience of official directives and laws of goverment I believe the law and justice are two sides of the coin that buys social stability and enhances the state of the nation.

When leaders execute laws they should consider the aspect of justice which simply says that, 'are you able to administer the same penalties in every and any instance such laws will be breached', if you cannot then it is better to reconsider the severity of the penalties.

If Wike cannot demolish every property of defaulters from now till Covid 19 is over then he should not have done this but rather considered a more viable and sustainable detterent.

If the next 'hotel' breaching lockdown is not demolished he will have egg on his face. If he demolishes the next 'hotel' then he is down a creek without a paddle. Wike is slowly boxing himself into an impossible corner with thoughtless acts that will damage him perhaps irreparably.

When leaders act it should always be from a depth of thought. Nigerians also should start electing leaders who act out of an abundance of thought, cerebral leaders that will succeed despite the environment they operate in.

You're assuming he cares. Someone that's suffering from bipolar disorder.

Wike doesn't think two steps ahead - he can only react to what's in front of him. This is same person that allowed churches to congregate for Easter during the lockdown last month.

Rivers people deserve what they're getting, since they put him there.

Before we start criticising, for the governor to be on ground to see the demolition of this ragtag hotel means that the hotel is not a hotel in the real sense of it.

Anything to make river state inhabitable is a welcome development.

Hotel kò

Cultists hideout and initiation quarter.
No be eleme again undecided
Even if. It's still not an excuse. Are you saying that there is no owner of the property?
Even if the owner is Satan. The law does not allow him to go demolishing someone else's property. Abi is it the property that is doing the cultism?
Re: Wike Demolishes Prodest Hotel, Eleme In Rivers State (Pictures) by Nobody: 5:34pm On May 10, 2020
killing a business because it disobeyed your rules is out of place and insane, the hotel can be sued, fined, sealed, there are other measures to punish hotel or people, so if a person should flout the lockdown order, will the governor order that the person be killed?
