Help My Friend Decide: 5million Or A 100k Job?

A friend of mine just got an offer from his late brother's company few months after his demise.

His late brother having been a prominent personality (head of finance) in the company he worked before he died, made the company to offer his younger brother my friend two options..

1. 5million naira cash or

2. a 100k job per month in the Same company.

we need your professional advice pls
take the job build your skills and have a take home. You can actually draft a plan on how your 100k will be used. Savings, low risk investment, and personal expenses. You may take the five million, if you so choose. But do you have a laid down plan on how to carry on with and also multiply it? If you have a laid down business plan and how to carry on, then you can go on with the latter otherwise stick to the former.

Let him collect the 5m and set up a business and with time, he'll be making more than 100k a month instead of waiting for over 4 years to make 5m on a 100k per month pay.
with 5M, I will even start making 500k per month.
Re: N5 Million Cash Or A 100k Job? Help Him Decide by nextstep(m): 10:24pm On May 10, 2020
Take the 5M cash. Then put that in T-bills and collect at least 10% annually (500k annually BTW) without having to work for it again.

He can always go and look for work later, if work dey hungry am. Just don't use any of the 5M to start a business; don't waste it on flexing; don't waste on babe; don't even build house. Tbills will give you 500k annually from now on dude.

This is the point where he has to choose between Job security and being an entrepreneur.

With 5Million naira, a savvy entrepreneur could find his way to becoming a multi millionaire in the next decade through commodity trading.

If your friend has interest to become a business person, tell him to go for the 5m but if he doesn't have flair for business, then sticking to the 100k job is an ideal option to choose.

My story: My boss settled me with 1.5m Naira for serving him for seven years, 2.5 years after my settlement, I have built my own house in the village, seeing three of my younger siblings through different Universities, enrolled myself in a distance learning program (NOUN), now own three different business outlets with investment in other fellow savvy entrepreneur's businesses, reaping monthly dividends on my investments.

There's no better way to spin around money faster than getting into trading business. TB, FX, mutual fund etc...can't offer that. Again, I repeat; if he has interest in business, advise him to go for the 5m. That may be the beat choice he will ever make all his life.
which type of business will you advice him to go,that will easily return the cash, just ur advice.

5m in this period can buy lots of things...
Collect the money. Na only person who never work before will advise him to go for the job offer.
Take 5m if u don't know what to do, fix it for monthly return with a micorfinance or cooperative society.

Or better still start applying for Germany or Canada visa
. Smart guy.

Take the N5m and invest.

COLLECT THE MONEY IMMEDIATELY. REMEMBER, WHAT IF THE COMPANY PACKS UP IN THE NEAR FUTURE OR FACES FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES.
Re: N5 Million Cash Or A 100k Job? Help Him Decide by Leonel55(m): 10:38pm On May 10, 2020
This is a very easy decision to make: go for the N5 million. Reason:

1. It would take 4yrs and 2 months for him to earn that N5 million on a N100k/month job

2. There's the possibility of things going south with his employers and he loses the job in just a yr or two

3. He could still get another job somewhere else even with lesser pay, after having collected the N5 million, and still be in much more gain

4. He could plan properly and come up with a biz that he can scale up and help him be his own boss

5. The employer could end up changing his mind about the offer somewhere down the line, even before he has worked with them for up to a yr, you never know

Taking the money, for me, remains the best option but the decision is his to make

Best of luck with your choice!

Very positive. A wise man who has got 5m and as a last resort will not be quick to squander it. There are working investments to do with part of the cash while you pursue business with the other part.

Wisdom plus common sense should be applied.

Collect the money and use 1m to buy federal government work, if he's lucky sef he can buy a job that has like 6 month's arrears. Then continue enjoying your life

OP, na another good advice be this for you. Collect the 5m and look for a very reliable link to buy a job from top Federal Government Agencies like NPA, FIRS, NIMASA, DPR, PPPRA, NLNG, NCC, NCS, NNPC. Atleast with 1m or 1.5 you go fit buy one of the jobs stated here. And after buying, you can still invest with the remaining money and you will still be getting a very crazy salary from your job with absolute job security and rest of mind. You will also have enough time for yourself, your FG job and wetin you invest on too. Abeg reason this my matter well o

That's true but it won't be advisable he sinks the entire 5m into a business. A part of it will do while the other part could be fixed in a fixed deposit account or a TB could be bought with it.

bro. the best option still remain d 5m.
but if d guy did not have d zeal for entrepreneurs he should just go for 100k job.
bcoz in Nigeria of today if u did not have a Better plan and skills to run a business ur effort will just be Meaningless and wasting of resources or capital.

if u can give me d 5m in d next 2 years I will double it for u, I think that is another business idea

What sort of company offers N5m to family of the deceased, unless the deceased was indemnified with the company, and as such, the N5m is a legal right.

The job offer has nothing to do with the N5m, and may be an attempt by the company to forego it's responsibilities.

Beware of Greek gifts. I don't see how one is conditional upon the other. Unless your brother worked for a one man business and the man is just making an altruistic gesture, I didn't think any professional company will table such an offer.

That option is ONLY for those who are already STREET SMART and who know how money works or how to generate money...

For someone like me, I do not need to spend all the 5M in a business. I already have a workable model and all I would take out of it is just 1M, then leave the rest to me.
