Zik thought he was smarter and would easily control things but history has proven otherwise. It is also noteworthy that Zik always wanted a unitary system because he felt he had some advantage over the Northerners. I’ve been wondering wether it was a coincidence that Aguinyi Ironsi collapsed the structure of governance in Nigeria into a unitary system after becoming head of state or simply sided with Zik’s philosophy for a unitary controlled Nigeria.

A cooperation between the Southern States from the start would have been better for Nigeria’s development but Zik threw it away, even though the party NCNC that he led was started by a Yoruba man (Herbert Macaulay).
