he was about to carry out a transaction with the money in your account on your behalf which required a pin sent to your phone.

he's not the person sending the pin, but CBN
, and you wouldn't give him the pin if he had told you the truth that he was about to carry out a transaction with your money, hence he pretend he was a bank official sending the pin, the truth is he needed the pin to complete the transaction.

if you had agreed to call him that pin, voommm! your money is gone.
the guy is working with some bad boys in the bank who gave him all those infos of yours.

most time, they use it to buy VTU online and sell the airtime to vtu sellers on the road and disappear into the thin air.

the day it was done to me, I rushed to UBA, took my statement of account for that day and rushed to MTN office and they helped me to block him from share and sell, then I was able to get letter from the police and affidavit from court and the airtime was transferred to me by MTN , which I was able to sell to recovered my money

Many banks are not doing enough to sensitized their customers about this fraud.
They should go to market and public places regularly and inform people that no bank can call you and start asking you for personal information.
This will go a long way to stop these scammers.
Also Network providers can also help, by regular SIM card Biodata update.

I had a similar experience in August last year, the fool called me and told me , that he's a staff in Fidelity Bank , he even mentioned my name, Date of birth, and account number and said that I should call the 4 last digits on my Atm card, that he wanted to update my account I told him how?
I will come to the bank the next morning to sought the issue out by my self. He insulted me and switched off. I called him and returned back the insults a thousand times, trust warri boys na.
Most times we should mind the kind of friends we accept on Facebook and also stop giving out sensitive information on your Facebook accounts.

EFCC, SARS, Police etc wont see this . Invite them or make simple arrest they wont. During this period it has become another pandemic. I received a call telling me my Zenith account blah blah BVN . They have the correct BVN details but once you try to claim they have the wrong one ( which I did ) the guy ended the call.

God punish them

Never release your sensitive banking details over the phone or email. Banks don't ask for such. So if you ever get the request to so do, know that you are dealing with a fraudster. So be guided.

You do not get it. These guys have the details. Your name, account number, BVN number, email address.

When I got a similar call from a so called access bank staff, I knew it was a scam and played along. Men, this guy was just dropping my details like he was my account manager.

I played along until someone at the background said cut call, that guy is playing with you.

It is against banking operation ethics for a bank to call customers on phone to verify an UNINITIATED/UNSOLICITED detail of a customer.

The permissible time a bank is allowed to verify a detail from you is when your ACCOUNT OFFICER calls you to verify/confirm a financial instrument (as specified in your mandate form). Other than that, it is unethical for a bank to call you.

If the bank discovers any error in your personal details, they will WAIT till when you come to the bank, irrespective of how long this takes.

Be guided.

Or possibly call to invite the customer to the bank.

Why do these scammers always come for Access bank customers?!

Two days after i collected my first ATM in Access bank Last december, someone called me to tell me of how i just collected my ATM and how it need to be upgraded before the new year bla bla bla...

I nearly fell for d trick. He insulted the hell out of me when i started asking him questions.
He was like: i am not ur mate... U are very stu..pid...you think we are playing here... I am trying to do my job... lol. I was perplexed after that episode.

I kept wondering how he got to know about the collection of the ATM card!!

Similar calls were put to my dad and sister.
I have always asked this same question. A friend of mine was a victim. His account was emptied. Same Access bank.

Scammers are now using the “Date of Birth” Lies to Scam innocent citizens.

Once they have your account number, they can proceed to hack the systems and get your BVN, and from there, they can get your name, address, date of birth, and so on.

And every information you ask of them as confirmation, they will just give it to you, so that you would think that they are genuine.

.....
On Thursday around 4:45pm, one Adebola called me with an ordinary number instead of the usual 0700-300-0000 that Access Bank usually call people with.

He said that he is calling me from the Access Bank Headquarters. He mentioned my correct name for me, and I concurred.

He then went ahead to tell me that the date of birth on my “account” in Access Bank is different from the DOB in my BVN (But I have more than one accounts with Access Bank, so he didn't specify which account he was referring to). He then told me that he needed to know which one out of the two dates are correct so he can correct it.

I asked him to break everything down with figures. He called out my correct DOB and said that it was the DOB on my Access Bank Account. He then called the same DOB and changed the year of birth, and said that it was the DOB on my BVN.

Habbaa!!.
I asked him to explain to me how that could ever be possible. He said that maybe the person that was entering the values made the typo error while feeding my information into the system.
He then told me not to worry, that they can correct it directly from the head-office, that a code will be sent to me to confirm that I am the one, so as to give them permission to....

I cut in immediately telling him that I will go to my bank first thing on Friday morning to rectify it.
He asked me “what sir?”, and I repeated myself again.
He dropped the call immediately.

I went to my bank on Friday to rectify the said error in the DOB, but got disappointed to discover that there was no error on the DOB.
In fact, every single information on my BVN-Page was correct.

The officer that attended to me at the bank told me that I did the right thing by coming to the bank.
..
That's the number that called me, and that is his name on Truecaller. (In the picture attached)
But he came across to me as Adebola.
The number is registered with fake information, just for the sake of fraud.

While reading your story, I got a call from an unknown number as seen on the image bellow with precisely same story...

Had to quickly block and brand the number "Bank and ATM Scammer"

One called me today and used youruba to tell.me that "daddy wa" mistakenly sent card to my phone.

I told them that I had not seen the card yet that they should make sure it was sent to me.

He said that wasn't the problem anymore that "daddy wa" wants to talk to me.

I told them to first first send the card o. If not am not hearing anything. An old man's voice came on the phone. I shouted at him to first send the card before anything.

They cut the line and ran away...

This is their number 08102308105. Please if you can reach them tell them to send my card first. I still interested in what they have to say.

You dodged a bullet right there my friend. That exactly was how my mum got scammed a year ago. Just grateful that the money was eventually refunded by the bank.
