There is no point using your own salary to expand your business. Since the transport business is generating money, it is the money generated that should be reinvested.

If you must use your personal money for the expansion of the business after the initial start up. Any additional money from your salary, should be seen as a loan which the business most pay back to you

Well noted sir,
Nawa o But i actually thought i was doing myself a great deal, i mean instead the salary to unproductively lie in my account, rather add them to the funds business generates to facilitate the expansion...

N:B nobody taught me this... it has been a habit and my own understanding of compounding.... rather than having banks utilising the money in your Acct without reasonable interest.

Anyways, lesson learnt

Meaning accrued interest can be compounded without delays?

Sure, if you opt for it. There is opportunity to give your mandate in that regard whether at the point of opening account or after and it is flexible you can opt in or out. For instance if it's Abacus and you pick reinvest interest by first day of the next quarter your interest is reinvested while for VGIF the interest is reinvested 1st July and 1st January of each year.

Your own method is also not bad, Emmanuel just suggested a better approach.

Some of these seemingly silly questions , i have an idea of what the answers are but i would rather ask here from people who have been dere nd done that.

Reassurance that, what i think is right is actually right. Since i have been following this thread when tb rates where pretty good, so u know how long. I have stuck to what i know and learnt here on treasury bills .when i see bond shares i dont even bother cause i dont know it well nd tb was still paying well.

With tb gone south we need to learn other investment opportunities So excuse the silly questions, correct people gladly responded to to clear our doubts.
I didn't see u answering any. Give me time to obtain my MBA degree in bonds and shares from this thread first. Me that i hv been following the responses to other people's questions that relates to this sukuk jejely no yab us at all

What is the differencies and similarities B/W ABACUS and VGIF?

Similarities: They are both mutual funds, interest accrued daily which can be paid out or reinvested and are tax free. There is free entry and exit for both. No specific amount or time that regulates your deposit. Any amount anytime can be deposited. They can be operated together.

Differences: Abacus is mmf, while VGIF is in d fixed income category, interest for Abacus is daily valued VGIF interest is benchmark with SDF- standard deposit facility (rate CBN give to banks for their deposit), initial minimum deposit for VGIF is 50k and minimum holding period six months Abacus minimum initial deposit is 1k and holding period 30 days.
VGIF 8.5% and Abacus 5%+

This is personal - I operate VGIF for long-term and Abacus for short-term.

All regulated investments ( TBills, mutual funds, bonds etc) rates are per annum but prorated base on the investment types e.g 90 days 182 days for TBills daily for Abacus or VGIF

Check SEC's website for unclaimed dividends. All you need is your name. If it appears there, there's hope.

Then, you contact the registrar on the way forward.

Cheers

2008, Eco bank shares. No dividends, nothing. As at last check I am not even sure the value of the shares changed. The stock broking firm I even bought from have gone under. We are in the same boat.
Anyway, there is another thread for shares related matters

Follow madam advice and also invest wisely. Children tend to learn from what they see their parents doing day in day out.

If you're smart, your kids will learn your smartness. Be a reflection n the book he/she will be reading for a better results. Welcome to our midst, I pray your life will never remain the same as you pay close attention to this thread.
My advice to the OP is to follow his guts. OP, if wifey tells you A and your guts says do it, then do it. You're not following madam's advice, but rather your guts. Based on how sensible your wife is, your guts would direct you whether or not to lean towards her plan, whether to go 100% or 50% with her idea. So once again, dear OP, follow your guts.

I'm relatively new on this thread but I think some of the questions being asked here are just from lazy minds. A bit of Google, basic arithmetic and investment sites will clarify the questions. To do anything tangible, we can not rely on the information given by others. Help yourself. Do some basic research and come here with tangible questions.

That's how we roll here. There is no such thing as a stupid question. people come from different backgrounds. some are very young and just starting out. It's never been a problem.

We always make the mistake of co-mingling our money and that of our business. This usually give a false sense of profitability of the business.

Whatever you put should be a loan which must be paid back at a given time

Even if you are using your property for a business, the business ought to pay rent to you, take care of other running costs, pay you a given stipend as salary, before you can determine the profitability of the business. Most especially if you have been running this business for 2 years and above
