You did not say how many yrs you've put in as a civil servant but i can advise you put in 10 yrs before moving to Canada so you can be on pension instead of wasting the yrs.
Secondly you can travel on leave of absence to see how it goes there before final resignation.

How much do you know about fed. Jobs
to start with?

Don't disgrace yourself here.
So, you believe someone working in a federal paraststal/agency who is probably on Level 10 step 7 earns N80k monthly?

If you have the opportunity, I sincerely believe you will be better of here. Am not exaggerating, on my off days regular job, I do food delivery and I will make that your 1 month salary in 10 hours.

I'm very sure you must have built two duplexes in Nigeria.

Which location in Nigeria are your three properties located?

Hello Nairalanders,

I will be 30 years in a few months and I have never felt so much unease as I do right now. I work with one of the federal parastatals and I am currently on level 10 going to 12 next year. I have a Master degree athough it is not exactly relevant to my current job.

The problem is that my organisation uses the Ministry salary structure and my monthly net is below 80k even as a level 10 staff.

I am not married and I am academically inclined. Asides having a Master degree, I have over 8 professional certifications.

I have been trying to clinch a transfer of service to a better parastatal where the remuneration is better and where my knowledge/experiences as a science graduate will be better appreciated but it has been a bit difficult.

However, just before the COVID-19 episode in Nigeria, I got the right link for a transfer of service to a better parastatal but the process got stalled with the COVID-19 palaver.

I have 4 siblings who are Canadian citizens and they have been on my neck to migrate. I never took the calls seriously until this lockdown period. My siblings are arguing about the uncertainty of the Nigerian economy post-covid and advising me to seize this opportunity to migrate and start a new career over there?

My question therefore, "is it wise to stay back since I have gone quite far in my public service career and just wait for the opportunity to transfer my service to a better paying federal parastatal OR do I migrate to Canada and start a new career?

Your honest inputs will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

@CrazyMan @1forall Please I need your help in pushing this forward for a wider view. Thank you.
I had same option 17 years ago and at same age you are now. Yes I do regret not getting out of this shit hole then.
Now I am considering it cos of children even though the cold might not be good for my health.
I know someone that left 2 years ago at 54y and the man insisted he wasted his life in Nigeria all these while.
You seem to have the opportunity, don't waste it.

Life is not as rosy in the western countries as Nigerians oftenly believes. Many years of mass immigration has reduced the prospect of job opportunities in abroad, while top priority are given to citizens over visitors. Furthermore, you cannot directly secure classified jobs in Canada with your Nigerian qualifications, which means you have to pick your starter pack and bag additional Canadian certifications with trainings which are required by Canadian employers, otherwise you may end up settling for menial jobs which are below your qualifications.

This that every one is leaving for Canada. Who will now remain to fix Nigeria

Most of you people just like to reap from where you did not sow.

And you are not going to the Canada to solve any problem for humanity but just to get 'good employment' and now pray that Nigeria catches fire and averyone remaining there should go to hell.

For those of you badmouthing Nigeria. Remember 'ajo Ko le da bi ile' (Other people's country can never be.like your own country)

By God's grace Nigeria shall be great again in my life time.

Asking this question sef is unnecessary, it is like asking should I die or should I live. Nigeria and Canada are like death and life respectively. Oh! That reminds me what my friend told me " Dele, my regrets ever in life was the years I wasted in Nigeria" a word is enough for a wise.

If what you state is true about your current job level, I will sincerely advise you to stay please.
Take a look at the long run benefit. You are just 30 already in level 10, according to you you will be in level 12 by next year, has it across your mind that with your age you might end up to be permanent secretary, for a long time and if God will you will become HOS(Head of service of the federation) pay close attention at the long term benefits you will stand to gain and the state you represent at the nearest future. Don't forget critical decision that benefit Nigerian are taking by the top echelons of government officials.

To me sir, you have more to gain status and money wise if you remain in the federal job.
My 2 cent advise.

Canada, Canada,Canada .All they advise is move move ,move.

Nobody considers the fate of an immigrant to Canada.

Going to an organised society is good but is it really perfect as always assumed.

If only those in Canada can give unbiased account of life over there maybe the decision could be clearer but funny enough many folks here will be disappointed of their dear Canada.

You can do both bro. Pursue another federal job bro, secure the job, at least collect two or three months salaries before u migrate bro. But before u migrate bro, do not resign from the job, I repeat do not resign, just drop them a letter that you dey go for medical treatment abroad by that way 3 or 4 more months salaries fit drop before their eyes go clear. Nigeria na scam, so if you fit scam Nigeria scam the useless country.

Good but if he is not too choosy, he will definitely get something doing in Canada. First thing u will observe is that there is no fear of the unknown
