This that every one is leaving for Canada. Who will now remain to fix Nigeria

Most of you people just like to reap from where you did not sow.

And you are not going to the Canada to solve any problem for humanity but just to get 'good employment' and now pray that Nigeria catches fire and averyone remaining there should go to hell.

For those of you badmouthing Nigeria. Remember 'ajo Ko le da bi ile' (Other people's country can never be.like your own country)

If what you state is true about your current job level, I will sincerely advise you to stay please.
Take a look at the long run benefit. You are just 30 already in level 10, according to you you will be in level 12 by next year, has it across your mind that with your age you might end up to be permanent secretary, for a long time and if God will you will become HOS(Head of service of the federation) pay close attention at the long term benefits you will stand to gain and the state you represent at the nearest future. Don't forget critical decision that benefit Nigerian are taking by the top echelons of government officials.

To me sir, you have more to gain status and money wise if you remain in the federal job.
My 2 cent advise.

Hmmmm, dont allow fear to blind his eyes. Those long term benefits are rubbish.
I can bet it that if he finds himself in Canada his regret will be that he left Nigeria late.

Hello Nairalanders,

I will be 30 years in a few months and I have never felt so much unease as I do right now. I work with one of the federal parastatals and I am currently on level 10 going to 12 next year. I have a Master degree athough it is not exactly relevant to my current job.

The problem is that my organisation uses the Ministry salary structure and my monthly net is below 80k even as a level 10 staff.

I am not married and I am academically inclined. Asides having a Master degree, I have over 8 professional certifications.

I have been trying to clinch a transfer of service to a better parastatal where the remuneration is better and where my knowledge/experiences as a science graduate will be better appreciated but it has been a bit difficult.

However, just before the COVID-19 episode in Nigeria, I got the right link for a transfer of service to a better parastatal but the process got stalled with the COVID-19 palaver.

I have 4 siblings who are Canadian citizens and they have been on my neck to migrate. I never took the calls seriously until this lockdown period. My siblings are arguing about the uncertainty of the Nigerian economy post-covid and advising me to seize this opportunity to migrate and start a new career over there?

My question therefore, "is it wise to stay back since I have gone quite far in my public service career and just wait for the opportunity to transfer my service to a better paying federal parastatal OR do I migrate to Canada and start a new career?

Your honest inputs will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

@CrazyMan @1forall Please I need your help in pushing this forward for a wider view. Thank you.
I am not really good at advice, I will only put myself in your shoes.
I will prefer to migrate to Canada, that place is far better and I won't like opportunity to pass me by...

I don't mind if you can link me cool

What kind of question is this?

Are you in Nigeria at all?

Do you see the madness of our political elites?

Do you see the paradox of your own situation?

A Masters degree holder earning less than 80k and you're banking on a transfer with higher pay as a rescue!

Assuming the next parastatal you're transferred to pays you 120k, is that "one" money commensurate to your educational qualifications?

What about when you get married and children come and your financial responsibility increases, is it 120k that will handle ALL your needs CONVENIENTLY?

Won't you want to buy a car? Build a house? Do other things?

Or you prefer this shithole of a country where your human rights is next to nothing?

I hope you have your answer.

This is how we answer questions like this in Nigeria.

Everybody's angry. Q.E.D.

The career dilemma...

Many years ago I was where you are now.

I took the road less traveled. I settled for a career in Nigeria.

I got a job in a Big 4. Then moved on to an FMCG, where the perks are much higher!

On education, I got chartered, and I'm finishing n MBA.

On family, I got married to my best friend from University, and I just made my first baby.

Do I regret not moving to the US to join my mom, a US citizen?

I do. Every. Single. Minute.

Why? Nigeria is a very uncertain place to stay and thrive. You could be up there in the sky today and the next week you're back on the mud. In a country of many poor people, you run the risk of becoming a victim of crime due to envy...post COVID-19 it'll get worse.

Look at you at 30. You're dithering. You're pussyfooting.

Look at me at 28. I still regret the mistake my 25 year old self made. I'm pushing daily to leave Nigeria.

I want to leave not because I'm broke in Nigeria, but the collective poverty in this country scares me...

Most crimes committed today are more out of envy and hunger than of greed.

If you can, please run. For your SAFETY!

I think we av same mind! I love this your advice

You can migrate and still keep your job here since nothing is moving on here in Nigeria owing to COVID-19 and come back and resign if you get better life out there in Canada.
I am sure you won't like to come back to Nigeria if you get there.
Or should I go in your place? I am ready to leave this country even to Benin Republic not to even talk of Canada.
Good luck!

A pharmacist even at that Level earns almost twice of what he earns because a pharmacist is paid on CONHESS salary scale.
CONHESS 9 is equivalent to GL 10 but the salary is far different.

Move to Canada. In my humble opinion.
Biko.
That your level 12 salary could be a week's pay in Canada. The beginning will be rough. But you are a Nigerian. You are dogged. Go there have a plan. Get a goal. Take actions to chase it based on the Canadian environment. Ordinary DoorDash or Point Pickup in the US for example gives you 100 Dollars per day. Per day. Almost 40k per day. (Don't know what the exchange rate is as I type this).

The only good thing about the civil service in Nigeria is job security of sorts. And freedom to run a business and work. Please if you can,
kindly ignore that stupid conflict of interest rule. It is the most stupid rule of the civil service. They use you for 35 years or so. Then dump you. You have no business experience when and if your gratuity is paid. Your pension/gratuity is of little value due to inflation and loss of value of the naira. There is no cost of living adjustment of any sort. So the only good thing is little job security and freedom to run your own business. The pay is shit. Nepotism is rife. Motivation is usually low.

In my honest opinion, plan well. Save enough. Improve your skills. And go to Canada. You can also work and run your business. Entrpeneural opportunities are there too and the economy more stable and predictable. Financing is also a possibility with good credit rating.

The Canadian option also better favours your CHILDREN. They have much of a headstart. Especially with the opportunity of being born and raised there. Think about it. Hopefully they won't worry like you now about what to do.

Unless you are not up for the initial stress that comes with this move. Otherwise, look beyond the now and see the future. Talk with your siblings. What are the opportunities? What are your plans and theirs for you? Are you schooling first? Are you working immediately? How much are they willing to support to allow you find your footing?

Have a concrete plan with contingencies. Take the bold step. All things go well you have Canadian Residency and Nigerian Citizenship. You can move between countries whenever you want.
Dude stop typing rubbish. You type like a typical Nigerian who has never left for cotonou before sef

Hello, from what you have revealed about yourself, you are very much eligible to apply as a Federal Skilled Worker (Express Entry). It is the fastest way for you to get a Canadian PR and eventually become a Citizen, I would know cuz i recently got mine.

In regard to your question, I will advise you take the risk and move. Sure, settling down in Canada might be difficult, but its definitely not impossible. You have a family over there, to help ease the burden.

PS. If you do decide to move, make you do a proper research on how to settle in Canada. You'll find tons of information,
