Zaronxpanol:
Hello Op, I studied for my BSc in a foreign country and while my Ex-Husband studied for his MSc, and Ph.D. in Copenhagen Denmark. He returned to Nigeria and struggled financially as a young Lecturer in a government university, during the early stage of his career. However getting married to a financially stable wife like me, who works in a well paying private organization made life abit comfortable for him. Although his life is better now as an Associate Professor compared to when he started.
So this fact below is coming from a well-traveled person. I have been to at least 13 countries and 4 continents.
FACTS
1 Abroad is for the strong and open-minded. Are you ready to hustle real hard doing any kind of Job before your dream job?
2 No matter the job you do abroad low class or dirty job, you will earn a decent income. But are you ready to forfeit that I am a graduate or MSc status? In case there is a delay in getting that job you desire, or God forbid the coin turns to the other side or there.
3 My husband returned to Nigeria from Denmark not because they were no high paying jobs. But because he couldn't get an Academic job which was his passion. He told me he cannot be selling chicken burgers and chips or being a waiter or security with his Ph.D. While some of his mates who stayed behind are now managers of restaurants in Denmark with their Ph.D. They earn more than Vice-Chancellors of universities now. So are you willing to change your career path in case things don't go your way or you are after professional prestige which my husband preferred? As for me I did jobs unrelated to my course after graduating in that country and changed career immediately I returned to Nigeria, I am after a financially stable and quality life and not professional prestige or I must work here or there. Pay me good money I will work for even LAWMA grin cheesy
4 If your transfer to a new organization is successful, and they can pay you above 200k I will advise you to stay back,
5 Government job has long term benefits and pays when towards the end of your career. Suffer now and enjoy later compared with private jobs where you enjoy now and your future is unpredictable.
6 If you cannot transfer to a well-paying government organization please relocate abroad. 80k is worth the stress for a 30years old man. Except if you marry a woman with high income who can assist you, you will leave a life of pity with that 80k when you marry a liability or a selfish wife.
7 Know what you want and what you can let go of without thinking twice. You can lay hold on everything in life peace
I have sent you pm as regards for msc in Denmark

There's nothing like a good job in Nigeria.

A good job in Naija is like an open coffin with it's lid 20 meters away.
Sooner or later, it will be closed on you.

Will you be traveling any soon too? if not, thank God you are here to fix Nigeria....

This that every one is leaving for Canada. Who will now remain to fix Nigeria

Most of you people just like to reap from where you did not sow.

And you are not going to the Canada to solve any problem for humanity but just to get 'good employment' and now pray that Nigeria catches fire and averyone remaining there should go to hell.

For those of you badmouthing Nigeria. Remember 'ajo Ko le da bi ile' (Other people's country can never be.like your own country)

That your level 12 salary could be a week's pay in Canada.

A week? More like half a days salary for a professional.

I believe most of these "should I stay or go" posts are just trolling.

correct, better pikin. I don't know why people are still asking this kind of question self. except you earn 1 mill in a month Naija is a NO NO. with the 1 mill still try and relocate your family ASAP and you stay in naija with 1 leg in 1 leg out.

You can do both bro. Pursue another federal job bro, secure the job, at least collect two or three months salaries before u migrate bro. But before u migrate bro, do not resign from the job, I repeat do not resign, just drop them a letter that you dey go for medical treatment abroad by that way 3 or 4 more months salaries fit drop before their eyes go clear. Nigeria na scam, so if you fit scam Nigeria scam the useless country.

Hello Nairalanders,

I will be 30 years in a few months and I have never felt so much unease as I do right now. I work with one of the federal parastatals and I am currently on level 10 going to 12 next year. I have a Master degree athough it is not exactly relevant to my current job.

The problem is that my organisation uses the Ministry salary structure and my monthly net is below 80k even as a level 10 staff.

I am not married and I am academically inclined. Asides having a Master degree, I have over 8 professional certifications.

I have been trying to clinch a transfer of service to a better parastatal where the remuneration is better and where my knowledge/experiences as a science graduate will be better appreciated but it has been a bit difficult.

However, just before the COVID-19 episode in Nigeria, I got the right link for a transfer of service to a better parastatal but the process got stalled with the COVID-19 palaver.

I have 4 siblings who are Canadian citizens and they have been on my neck to migrate. I never took the calls seriously until this lockdown period. My siblings are arguing about the uncertainty of the Nigerian economy post-covid and advising me to seize this opportunity to migrate and start a new career over there?

My question therefore, "is it wise to stay back since I have gone quite far in my public service career and just wait for the opportunity to transfer my service to a better paying federal parastatal OR do I migrate to Canada and start a new career?

Your honest inputs will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

@CrazyMan @1forall Please I need your help in pushing this forward for a wider view. Thank you.

Not going to discourage from leaving but many Africans especially African Americans are moving back to so many African countries they are all buying up lands and setting up businesses. That shows that Western dreams is not what is use to be and with this Coro Virus that will turn out to be seasonal virus which means will appear every fall this also will make it hard for foriegners to get hired i mean its up to you but if you ask me stay put in Nigeria for now.

The career dilemma...

Many years ago I was where you are now.

I took the road less traveled. I settled for a career in Nigeria.

I got a job in a Big 4. Then moved on to an FMCG, where the perks are much higher!

On education, I got chartered, and I'm finishing an MBA.

On family, I got married to my best friend from University, and I just made my first baby.

Do I regret not moving to the US to join my mom, a US citizen?

I do. Every. Single. Minute.

Why? Nigeria is a very uncertain place to stay and thrive. You could be up there in the sky today and the next week you're back on the mud. In a country of many poor people, you run the risk of becoming a victim of crime due to envy...post COVID-19 it'll get worse.

Look at you at 30. You're dithering. You're pussyfooting.

Look at me at 28. I still regret the mistake my 25 year old self made. I'm pushing daily to leave Nigeria.

I want to leave, not because I'm broke in Nigeria, but the collective poverty in this country scares me...

Most crimes committed today are more out of envy and hunger than of greed.

If you can, please run. For your SAFETY!

Las las everybody eyes don clear lol, Where are those "Nigeria Will Get Better Crew" Foooooools. I've always known Shiithole has no future right Inside my mom's Womb......The most DEVILRY NATION In the Universe....

We didn't spoil it so we aren't responsible for fixing it. Those born from the 90s came and met Nigeria a shithole zoo. The people that should fix Nigeria are those that were born between the 40s and late 70s. They enjoyed the best Nigeria had to offer.

It's wrong for you to be paid ministry salary structure instead of the one for parastatal, but it depends on the salary structure, what I know is that parastatals are paid higher than ministries, just keep trying to get a transfer to a better parastatal, but except if there is vacancy.

believe me as a tech person doing well in Nigeria, i still want to move abroad and just in a dilemma

if i should stay or go

By God grace i earn between #300 to #500k in a month but still feel i should move

i would be 27 this year sha

i almost had a job in canada but lost it because i dont save my projects on git that was what the company asked me but didnt have it to prove i did them

the reason why i don't save on git is because most Nigerians are not patient , they give you a project by 1am and expect it to be ready before 12pm, so i skip a lot of things
You mean github.

They would be here for long. Once buhari is done ruling el rufai is next. By the time the north is done with Nigeria, the country would be a cesspool of poverty and hopelessness. We are even enjoying now. Future Nigeria is better imagined than lived through. It's the present Nigerian children born in Nigeria I really pity. They go hear am.

We 90s kids are way poorer than our parents. It's abnormal. Skyrocketing unemployment. It's not uncommon to see people living with their parents up to their 30s. Op is 30 and earns a paltry 80k. His salary saved up for a year can't even get a good car. Is that life? My dad got married at 28 and was working with a good salary in the bank with just wassce. Such is not even possible in Nigeria today. The country is retrogressing everyday.

You can choose to be patriotic, remain in Nigeria and let the country that has given you all that you have and made you all that you are right now, draw some value from your positive contributions.

OR

You can choose to be selfish and check out for a rosy life in Canada as has been advised by so many on this thread.

Whichever one of these choices you take, you would be right and justified.

Goodluck.

AFTER YOU FOLLOW THE MENTALITY ADVISE OF TYPICAL NIGERIANS WHO ARE BRAINWASHED TO BELIEVE CANADA IS THE PROMISE LAND, YOU WILL COME BACK HERE TO NAIRALAND 10YEARS LATER TO LAMENT HOW YOU MADE A BIG MASTAKE RESIGNING YOUR MINISTRY JOB AND MOVING TO CANADA TO BE A SLAVE.

AFTER YOU HAVE SPENT 10 YEARS IN CANADA, YOU WILL FEEL ON TOP OF THE WORLD BECAUSE YOU MANAGE TO BUY YOUR HOUSE ON MORTGAGE AND BUY YOUR CHOICE CAR ON MONTLY CAR FINANCE, YOU HAVE BECOME A CANADIAN CITIZEN, THEN YOU TRAVEL BACK TO NIGERIA FOR HOLIDAYS FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF DOING SHAKARA TO YOUR FORMER COLLEAGUES ONLY FOR YOU TO DISCOVER THAT YOUR JUNIORS THEN WHO WERE UNDER YOU ARE NOW DIRECTORS. YOUR MATES INCLUDING YOUR JUNIORS AND MESSENGERS OWN NUMEROUS CHOICE PROPERTIES INCLUDING THERE IN YOUR ALMIGHTY CANADA AND THEY PAID CASH FOR THE PROPERTIES THANKS TO THE DEALS AND RUNS AND GHANA MUST GO SHARING THAT USUALLY GOES DOWN IN THE CIVIL SERVICE.

ALL THE PEOPLE YOU KNOW IN CANADA, ASK THEM HOW MANY HOUSES THEY GOT AND IF ITS PAID FOR.

ASK THEM IF THEY CAN SURVIVE AND PAY THEIR BILLS AND MANTAIN THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE WITHOUT WORKING FOR 1MONTH.

ASK THEM IF THEY ARE SURVIVING THIS CORONA PERIOD WITHOUT DEPENDING ON THE GIVEAWAY JUSTIN AND HIS GOVERNMENT ARE DOING.

ASK THEM IF THEY CAN COMFORTABLY BUY ALL THE GROCERIES THEY CRAVE WITHOUT USING THEIR CREDIT CARDS.

ASK THEM TO SEND YOU JUST $100.

YOU NIGERIANS THINK LIFE IS VERY EASY IN CANADA.

THIS CORONA SEASON IN NIGERIA, YOU CAN AFFORD TO EAT WHAT YOU CRAVE AND PAY FOR IT WITH YOUR OWN MONEY.

YOU CAN AFFORD TO PAY FOR KUKUNASE IF IT HUNGRY YOU.

THERE IS NOTHING IN CANADA.

YOU CAN NEVER BECOME RICH IN CANADA.

YOU WILL WORK LIKE A SLAVE.
