Hello Guys,

I have been following this thread for quite a while now, and it has been highly informative for me. I am preparing for visa interview whenever the embassy give the green light for F1 interviews, and I will like a thorough review/criticism of my proposed transcript.

Please do not hesitate to raise further questions that I can also answer.

VO; Good morning, pass me your I-20
Me: Good morning, here it is (passing the document to the officer)

VO: what are you going to the US for?
Me: I'm going to earn a doctoral degree in Sport and Exercise Science, with emphasis on Biomechanics at the University of Northern Colorado (UNCO), Greeley.

VO: Why did you choose UNCO?
Me: UNCO has a highly regarded Sport and Exercise Science doctoral program that uses an interdisciplinary approach to prepare one for teaching, research and scientific writing. These are skills/competencies critical to take my career in the academia forward. Asides the top-notch biomechanics research facilities at UNCO, working with an outstanding mentor like Prof JS, in a nascent research area of postural stability among oncology patients will prepare me to standout in the competition for faculty appointments on my return to Nigeria. UNCO has a graduate faculty placement rate close to 100 percent. Additionally, I was offered a full time graduate teaching assistantship position that came with full tuition waiver, and a monthly stipend to upgrade my laboratory teaching skillset.

VO: How did you hear about the school?
Me: As a Biomechanics enthusiast, I follow happenings on an online Biomechanics forum called Biomech-l. It was on this platform that I read about Prof JS's research and the school. Following our email exchanges and conversations, he encouraged me to apply to the PhD program of his school built on personalized mentorship. This mentorship and interdisciplinary approach to research is what I have always wanted for my doctoral training.

VO: How many institutions did you apply to?
Me: I only applied to UNCO. Though I contacted Professors at University of Pittsburgh and University of Kentucky, I got no response from either.

VO: Did you write any exam.
Me: Yes, GRE. Test of English was waived for me on request, based on my academic and work history.

VO: What was your Test Score
Me: I scored 294; V-150 & Q-144

VO: what do you mean when you said work history?
Me: I have been lecturing at the Department of PT, of a state university for over three years now. I have also been involved in a number of research activities that as resulted in peer reviewed journal publications.

VO: What will your program be like?
Me: My PhD program at UNCO entails taking courses such a Biomechanics of Locomotion, Advanced Biomechanics, and undertaking supervised practicum in college Teaching. I expect to learn high-level research methods and technologies, in addition to professional standards in clinical practice and Biomechanics applications for cancer rehabilitation. The program will cover advanced statistics, research design, quantitative methods, laboratory techniques and computer-aided research.

VO: What will your responsibility be as a graduate assistant?
Me: I am expected to work 18 hours per week as an instructor of record for undergraduate students in the Biomechanics laboratory and also conduct research.

VO: What do you plan to do with your degree?
Me: I intend to return back to my lecturing position at the state university on a much improved appointment to the one I currently have. In collaboration with the faculty at UNCO and biomechanists around the world, I hope to setup a biomechanics research laboratory that would be focused on improving the quality of life of cancer survivors in Nigeria.

I am open to your reviews please.

Please I'm still expecting your review on this proposed transcript.

[quote author=fairheart post=89830779]I think the US embassy will open in June (I strongly sense this happening). So, if you are going for fall, July and August (with use of extension letter, which I believe will be easily issued to students this time) may be available for interview. Also, I do not see crowd at the embassy when it open. With other visa category put off, 2 months will be adequate to interview all potential F1 students in Nigeria.

So, do not sit on the fence and conclude yet that there can't be interview this fall. Prepare yourself... you know not when the matter of the house will return. Prepare wink[/quote
Pls we need the transcript for part 15 for us student visa pls

I am particularly sad that the most promising drug, Hydroxychloroquine, has taken a fall. study finds that it's linked to increased deaths in COVID-19 patients, with no convincing benefit. with no vaccine at sight, and the hickin cases, USA cannot risk having people abroad coming into their country now.

Guys what would you all do when OPT and H1B visas are finally restricted or scrapped? That reality seems highly likely in the coming weeks.

They won't scrap H1B or OPT. With all the noise the current administration is making about immigration, they are yet to revoke work permit of H4 spouses.

Pandemic aside, this is an election year. If you know you know

Please ooo, advisers and gurus in the house, kindly advise me on this. I no sabi anything oo. Na beg I dey beg. Let me quicky apprise you on the following. I have been admitted to the following schools for fall 2020:
(1) Rowan University ( MS Data Analytics, awaiting GA)-
(2)Mercyhurst University (Ms. Data Science)-awaiting GA
(3) Bowling Green State University (MS Data Science)- awaiting GA
(4) NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE UNIVERSITY (MS Information Systems)

Here is my thinking:
(1) Due to this extraordinary time, I want to defer the admissions
(2) Due to the paucity of funds, I want to make Northwest Missouri state Uni my final bus stop. since it is cheaper even without funding. But they do award GA second semester and they have on-campus jobs.

Please note I have the following pending
(a) Grand valley state University (MS Applied Computer Science, Ms. Health informatics (just a trial)). I got a reject for MS Data Science and Analytics
(b) Cleveland State University (Ms. Computer information systems, Ms. Software Engineering)

Y’all are conversant with cases of crimes committed by Nigerians because it’s your country. Everyone knows that Indians are the undisputed number one when it comes to criminal acts in the U.S and Canada. From my experience, they’re the worst set of people on earth. Employers know them as liars because they claim what they’re not on their resume.

A friend once asked an analytics guy of how to get an analytics job post graduation, the only advice he was given is to never lie like Indians. They are number one in exam malpractices in the U.S. Go to YouTube and search for Indian scammers and you’ll be amazed of how many videos are there. In fact, there are many YouTube channels focusing on those scammers

Is it Mexicans and drugs you want to talk about or MS 13 gangs from Central America? Long story short, if crimes were to be used to restrict entry to the U.S, the hammer will fall on India, first, and many others before getting to us.

@bolded You're 100% right. I had an encounter with a "recruiter" from one of those Indian consulting firms last month who asked how many years of work experience I had. When I told him I had less than 2 years of work experience, he told me he would update my resume with 5 years of work experience, in order to present me to their clients as a qualified candidate. I blocked his phone number immediately and didn't accept his request to connect on LinkedIn. A friend of mine also had same experience when she was job hunting. Have you ever wondered why 67.7% of applications selected in the H1-B lottery this year were Indian nationals (Trump has not been able to successfully curb this H1-B scam yet). Most of these Indians lie a lot. During my first year in grad school when I was trying to get cheap health insurance, one of the phone calls I made was redirected to a fraudulent agency. The customer care agent had an Indian accent and he started asking me for my credit/debit card to redeem a promo/gift. Of course, some Nigerians in the US are glorified scammers who are just lazy and want to live a flamboyant life without paying the price but those Indians are what I'll call "tussi great ho" grin

so if vaccine never comes or the vaccine comes like in a year's time it means no one will travel to the US anymore or any other European country, trans-european flight has began....oga vaccine or no vaccine, travels are likely to kick start fully by next month as airlines are already preparing

From my experience here, they just want to ascertain that you can communicate effectively. Don't expect any technical questions that you won't be able to answer. If you're genuine on your CV and listed experience, then you don't need to study for the interview.

PS: They know you don't know. So don't think they expect you to impress them with your knowledge of science or whatever your research interest is.

Hello everyone. Please I was admitted recently into an American University msc program with 40% tuition scholarship and a possible assistanship/internship opportunity. With the current pandemic situation I will probably have to defer the admission. My question now is will the scholarship be withdrawn from my admission if I decide to defer it to next year?

Scholarship, GA are subject to changes. In other words, nothing is guaranteed.

However, email your grad coord.

US may someday become a country that pick up/chase out international students back to their home country (especially with the rate of young Nigerians staying back in the US and engaging in cyber crimes against American people and businesses).

One of the things I always try to do on Nairaland is say what I mean and mean what I say. Look at the sentences above. I said the government may make policies that will force students to go back to their home countries after studies. I said "especially with the rate of young Nigerians staying back in the US and engaging in cyber crimes." Note that "young Nigerians" both include and exclude students who went to school, studied and graduated, and those who got their F1 but never went to school but instead hustle. You cannot take "young Nigerians" in this context to include only students who went to school and graduated. You certainly didn't read me well. This is point 1.

2, you asked for a source right? Last year, the FBI arrested over 80 people in the US for one of the largest web of cyber crimes in the US history. 77 of these people are Nigerians, mostly young people in their 20s and 30s. If you dig deeper, you'd see that most of them went for studies, went to school, or didn't go at all (but there are those they filed for, too).
Source: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2019/08/charges-80-people-nigerians-46m-internet-scam-190823071850782.html

From personal experience now. A friend called me 4 days ago. He was following this thread. He told me that FBI arrested the boyfriend of their apartment cook, a Nigerian youth on F1. He was tracked and picked up at the store he was working as cashier. He was arrested for cyber crime. He's been sent to 30 years in jail; this is a very fresh case. In 2016, a guy was deported from the US because he was engaged in runs while on active F1 visa. If I should begin listing instances one friend or the other, or someone they know was caught in the act, everything will feel very negative to you.

So I wrote in this context. When the FBI is arresting young Nigerians in the US for cyber crimes, you can tell that this is not good for the future of potential young Nigerians that will want to travel to the US. As long as some of these guys moved in with F1 visa, it is bad for the future of prospective applicants that will want to travel to the US in the future. These are occurrences that force politicians to review policies.
Same with the ban that was placed on K1 visa. You think the US government just woke up on night and said, "Look, we don't want Nigerians to have our K1 visa anymore," no! Some people said Nigeria was added because Trump is a racist. Lies! They have their fact, gathered over long period of time that was used as key instrument in issuing that ban. They are asking keeping record of those cyber crimes!

When one tree falls, its ripples are felt in the forest. Na small, small bad things dey spoil big and good stuff.
