hello fam and my seniors, I just started studying french about 2 months ago using frenchpod101.com (as suggested in the group), it has truly been helpful. my question is, Can I learn up to a b1/b2 level using frenchpod101.com only before intensifying study for TEF........ I seem to enjoy their teaching technique or should I add other resources at this early stage? also when watching films......would I learn better if the subtitle is in french or English........ merci |

MapleLand2021: Good thing about Frenchpod is that they clearly mark the levels. Once you're comfortable with the upper Intermediate classes(B1/B2), you would be reasonably ready to ramp up TEF prep. As for subtitles, French is best. The less of English the better. 1 Like |

Woke up this morning and got this disheartening email. Planned to take since last April. Dear Madam/Sir, The Management of Alliance Française is doing everything humanly possible to reschedule the Tef Canada examination slated to hold on the 24th of June and now reschedule to take place on 4th July 2020.Upon submission of the new date to the CCIP, the organ in charge of the examination, responded by saying that they are not organizing any of such examination until September 2020 due to global health crisis. The Directer of studies who is presently on leave in France had written them to see the possibility of unlocking the situation. Hopefully if she gets a favorable response, we will be updated. Alliance Française remains committed to give you the best within its available resources but we regret this unfortunate circumstance which is largely due to the health crisis in the entire world. funshobabs: DELF/DALF is relatively easier that TEF IMHO with much more support resources and a very transparent structure. funshobabs: Apologies in advance if my comment offends in any way. Your wife (if she is not currently in Quebec) may want to consider TEF Canada instead of TEFQA. Disclaimer, I don't know how different the 2 TEFs are from each other....I never explored TEFQA. Reasons: 1) TEF Canada is accepted for both FSW/Express Entry as well as Quebec, but TEFQA can only be used for Quebec. 2) It seems that the FSW/Express Entry draws are more frequent compared to Quebec. 3) Quebec invites approx 10% of the candidates invited by the FSW program e.g. 300 vs 3,000 4) Even before COVID, Quebec seems to have given preference to inland candidates, candidates with job offers or the back log from their old system before ARRIMA (EOI system), in their draws. Tip of the Day It's probably something for beginners but double "l" is pronounced as "y" as used in "fille" or "guillemet". Talking about guillemet, the guys on Radio Canada are always saying "entre guillemets" meaning "in quotes" or quote & unquote as we say here. Use it in EO and blow the examiner away! 11 Likes |
