grin my friend put a little water in the pot with the live lobster and the sound of them running helter skelter could give you nightmares grin grin

cococandy:

Do you use live lobster?
If yes how do you kill them?

I’ve been told to put them in boiling water and leave it to die. Or smash the head with a hammer. none of which sounds something I want to do.

Any better ideas?

Maybe its just me but I don't see anything wrong in boiling a lobster to kill it. They're animals (crustaceans). They're lower down the food scale. My brothers and I used to behead goats years back!

I always try to make sure I know where the meat I eat is coming from. I get my meat from local farmers where I see how their animals live and grow and that they are not pumped with antibiotics. The disadvantage is that it is costly but for me it is worth it, more so because I do not eat meat every day. When I eat out, it is not always possible to know what kind of meat they use but some restaurants are dedicated to sustainable products so I choose to visit there whenever I can to support the cause. With the world population we have today (still increasing) we should all consider and maybe reconsider our eating habits. I sound like a preacher and I already hate it. undecided

I knew I cared about animals the day I helped a drowning mouse escape grin
I was mad at it for falling into large bowl full of water angry but felt sorry for it seeing the way it was trying with all its might to keep its head above water embarassed

It’s not about wrong or right.
It’s just some of us are no not up to the task that’s all.

Growing up, we used to kill animals to eat (we-meaning people in my house) but I don’t participate or watch. I make sure I come back when the animal is already dead.

But guess who enjoyed the meat the most? lipsrsealed grin

There is a difference between killing an animal and torturing it.

It shows that you have a lot of empathy. I was trying to trap a mouse when my parents went on holiday back in the day. It was in our basement. I bought a trap that would not kill it so I could catch it and set it free. I left some cheese inside to lure it. The next day the cheese was gone and the mouse too. grin

There is a difference between killing an animal and torturing it.

Killing a lobster with Hammer, hot water or freezing it is no way torture. Those are reasonable ways of killing it without hurting oneself.

putting a knife to the neck of a cow/goat slaughtering it is not torture as well.

Talks about investigating how the goat/cow one buys in the market was killed is a long thing.....and it's funny actually

It’s not preaching. And it’s actually a long overdue conversation.
However it’s not an issue that’s affects Nigerians as much as it does say America (for example).

We rarely over consume meat in Nigeria. Most animals are ‘free range’ farm animals.

The cows, chicken and goats are more lean than what we have here. And the tastes is distinctively different to me.

That’s one benefit of not having everything at your beck and call. The meat producers here can over produce whereas it’s harder to over produce in Nigeria.

I know dear. That's why I refuse to eat cheap meat. Meat should always be a luxury. If not for the love of animals then for our own health. The ways they keep the price so low is lipsrsealed And because it is so cheap oyinbo will throw away all the different parts of the animal we would still eat. undecided

With chinchin, it happens easily.
You should've just taken the portion you would've wanted to eat, instead of eating from the whole probably cheesy
Next time (there'll definitely be a next time cheesy), to take the little you want and store the rest in an airtight jar.

Here it is. cheesy

I would say I'm about 85% vegetarian.
It is easy for me because I don't eat soup, so most of my meals are easily plant-based.
Except for eggs, milk, chicken and occasional meat (when I eat suya) which I'm not crazy about.

Also my reason why I tend to buy goat/lamb more often than beef. Those small scale farmers are often better than the Walmart’s and co. Costco has expensive beef that I’ve tried and to me it’s the same taste as the big store ones even though they claim all the ethical practices and high grade meat. The beef here can be quite tasteless in general . I’ve never seen any small scale beef farmers or I’d try theirs to see if there’s a difference.

True, meat should be a luxury. Tell that to Americans though grin
Their meat is the main dish while the rice, beans etc is the side dish.

Whereas it’s flipped the other way in Nigeria. The main meal is the meal and the meat is a treat. That’s what I’m used to. And they frown at you for eating the tripe, skin, liver etc. weirdos
