Hello Nairalanders! Please I'm in serious need of your candid advice. Let me go straight to the point.

I've been going through a delimma for some days now. I'm presently working with a microfinance bank and i earn about 40k after tax. Recently, I was offered a job in government house with a salary slightly above my present salary.

In my present place of work, there is job security and I learn a lot on the job although the salary ain't much. In the new job, there is free accommodation but no job security because I'm being employed by the SA (special assistant) to the governor and i won't be getting any official appointment letter.

The problem now is, I'm stuck between the two. I don't know if I'm to go with the new offer or continue with my present job. I don't want to take a decision that I might regret tomorrow. My fear is that I might be sacked at any time because I'm not employed directly by the government but the SA.

I've been thinking about it and i still don't know the best decision to take. So, I decided to seek advice from nairaland cause I know I can get good advice here.

Please I will appreciate your sincere advice and contributions.

If you negotiate to work with the SA remotely or as a consultant, then you know how to schedule your time.Network administration can be done remotely. If you play your cards right, you keep your old job and receive income from 2 sources. How is that for you?

I guess you are married, it is only married people that will think the way you are thinking..

Am sorry to say this ; why are you so comfortable with 40k salary ? This is an opportunity to upgrade your cv. if you loose the govt work you can search for another job with your experience.. For me 40k salary job is too small to be attached to.

Well is not a must you accept the job if you are having some mixed feelings, you can still help someone in search for a job to get the job

Please go for the new job and build your network. You can always return to work another bank if you want

The SA would hand you over to the next SA. For you to even have connection with an SA is commendable. What is microfinance bank compared to this? With your experience you can always get another microfinance job, albeit, with extra experience with the SA.
your web development profile is very impressive. I have gone through your projects, you have done a wonderful job. God bless you. I pray that your skills will take you to great places.

Without an official appointment letter, your salary is not sure but it might be a wake up call for you to startup something on the side. You can also work part time for your Microfinance bank as a side hustle while at the government house.
If not I would advise you stay put at your Microfinance bank except you're 100% the SA will not throw you under the bus.

Better retain the bank job. Those very unreliable govt offers is what you want to jump into.

Stick to ur present job. U can be dropped at anytime by the S.A to the Gov...
Re: Should I Stay With My Job Or Go With This New Job? by shonepet: 1:55pm On Jun 16, 2020
My brother, your present job and the new one has no job security.
My advice is if u must take the SA job, u must prove your worth while working with him. Even after the present Governor steps down, an SA can still get another appointment and will still look for you. You will have more time to do your own business while on the new job and you must get ready to broaden your connections .
I will support you leaving your old job because u can still be fired in the MFB within this 2-3 years. Take the risk and pray for God's direction
Goodluck

guaranteed, from that exposure you might get
recomendations to better job offers.
Life is all about taking risks, and not taking risk
is a risk on its own."
