A friend going to Coventry received her CAS today! That should mean things are speeding up for reopening. Hopefully, our government will reopen the borders so that the Visa offices can resume.

This is beautiful. I hope we will all start to receive CAS here

Hello everyone, I am in a state of confusion at the moment, and i know that I can be helped here.
Here's the thing, i got an offer to study Business and Financial Management from Northumbria University London Campus, I already made my deposit payment since February, as the admission was for May before I deferred to September. I have my funds in my account (school fees balance + living cost). The issue is that I would love to go with my husband and kids as tier 4 dependants (my husband has the three of them living expenses in his account) because we plan on starting afresh over there and all.

Here's my confusion, I have been having a second thought about London due to the expensive lifestyle and the fact that i heard that London is not so safe to raise a family and all, so I decided to search for other schools and then found Glasgow Caledonian University in scotland and i also discovered that I could be eligible to receiving 50 to 100% scholarship due to my CGPA.. I would love to know if schooling in Scotland and more specifically, schooling in GCU is a better decision in comparison to Northumbria? Also, hope I would be eligible for the 2 years post grad work permit if I school there? Lastly, is the course SOCIAL INNOVATION a good course or I should simply stick to Msc in Accounting and Finance (i currently hold a Bachelors degree in Accounting)

Thank you so much as I await your responses @Lagosismyhome, @justwise.. and everyone. Thanks

Scotland is a lovely place to school in and Glasgow is one of its major cities. You would be able to apply for the 2 years post study visa if you graduate with your MSc there.

With regards to the course, I really do not have any clue but others might be more able to assist in that regards. For your husband, you might look up availability of jobs online for his line of work experience to know how marketable the city of Glasgow is! Others can also fill you in with regards to NU.

Another factor to consider is if you will be able to get a full refund for your deposit but if you are getting a scholarship, it might help with your fees. Please check the skills shortage list to know if accounting is good to study as well.

1. Have you read the refund policy for Northumbria?
Hope you know that you wouldn't be entitled to a refund if you choose to study at another school. Are you willing to let go off your deposit? If you can find a way to get your deposit refunded (slim chance), the 50-100% scholarship option at GCU sounds good but getting the scholarship is a probability that might or might not happen so you'd need to evaluate your options and pick the one with less overall risk.

2. Not all parts of London are unsafe but I understand your worries. Glasgow is a "safer" environment compared to London; I've got friends who moved there from London and they swear by the bible that it's a whole lot saner. Their kids also prefer it to London and refuse to come to London except they have no other option.

3. The PSW will include graduates of all UK universities when it starts as scheduled next year and Scotland is part of the UK so you'd benefit from it irrespective of what part of the UK you school in.

4. Pls pick MSc Accounting and Finance as it will give you more leverage if you're looking at being in paid employment right after your course. Social innovation is better suited to entrepreneurial pursuits or when you're a bit higher up and more settled in your professional path. It was one of my modules and it was more like an external component of my entrepreneurship module.

Hello

Let me try to help answer a few

1. There is a guide to that on this link, read through and you will see you could isolate in either places, it now depends on how comfortable you might be in a family friends house versus if you have funds for a hotel
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-how-to-self-isolate-when-you-travel-to-the-uk/coronavirus-covid-19-how-to-self-isolate-when-you-travel-to-the-uk

2. Personally, I would say No, and the reason is that sometimes the accommodation you see online may not be the true picture of what you meet when you arrive, plus you might be dealing with a fraudster. I can advise that you check through and filter what you seem to like and can afford. Send an email and perhaps request you view before moving in, some rentals do social distance viewing and some virtually but I'd rather be there personally and look at everything myself, ensure they are working, the size of the room etc

3. Shared accommodation means you will share the common areas with other people and have your room to yourself, meaning you will share toilet, bathroom, kitchen , sitting room etc with others. I don't know what you mean by private but that could be studio and flats and it's the opposite. Again shared accommodation are usually cheaper so it's down to what your preference is and what you can afford.

4. Rent per calendar month (PCM) is cheaper than rent per week (PW). That's the terminology used in accommodation sites

5. It depends on distance to school, closeness to the next bus stop, or the city centre or work, the rents, what bills are included and/or left out. It really depends but my first concern will be distance.

6. I skipped one... I know of Zoopla and Right move, you have to fine-tune your search though to reflect Sunderland. Again remember, the pictures may or may not be what it is, however, I think most agents have their contact emails attached to the accommodation listing, so you can engage them directly. Please remember internet and fraudsters so thread cautiously

Unfortunately, I can't advise on Sunderland because I didn't school there.

I hope this helps.

All the best

I spoke with the student advisor in Northumbria in respect to the refund and I was told that I would be able to receive the deposit fee less 150 pounds administrative fees.
Thank you so much for this response, I really appreciate you. Please where can i check the skills shortage list? Thanks

@Justwise.

I'm not eligible to sponsor my younger brother, so I want to transfer the money to his account. The issue is that the young man might withdraw some of the money before or during visa application.I intend putting the account on LIEN/RESTRICTION. but the money will be available to him when he travels to the UK.

Will this affect the Visa decision?

Please, I was told that if you are going for a 1 year masters course, You will get 2 years study visa.
If your going for 2 years masters, You will get 3 years study visa.

Is this correct?
Then, plus the 2 years post study visa.
Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 4 by duchess90(f): 7:23am On Jun 16, 2020
The current scheme is the duration of your course plus 4 months post study visa. The proposed PSW scheme will hopefully be the duration of your course plus 2 years post study visa if qualified. I think this is a better benchmark for you to work with. (Note:some courses may include 6 months internship)

Another option you could take is going to their Newcastle campus...I hear the location is good for students-job wise and also for families. See if they offer an alternative course that aligns with your field, that you can get admission for. Wish you the best in your endeavors.

Please who have heard from Northumbria University Newcastle?

Asking for my cousin though. He submitted his application for MSC Nursing Science since March till now no response from the school. He sent countless mails for update regarding his application, they keep telling him his application is still under review with the faculty staff.

Anybody attending Liverpool Hope this summer?
Can anybody suggest a safe & decent neighbourhood to rent a 2-3 bedroom in the Liverpool - Warrington area?

Why are you considering the bolded? What campus would you be studying at? If it's Hope Park, why not seek accommodation in Childwall itself where the main campus is located?

I have two options before me. Liverpool Hope and Derby but most likely would settle for the former. The course is MA. Social work.
Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 4 by dhsmalls: 2:31pm On Jun 16, 2020
Same course. I can't stay in a student's neighbourhood. it usually isn't conducive for kids. I am traveling with dependents.
I am willing to stay as far as Warrington because it's almost halfway between Manchester and Liverpool and that affords my spouse the opportunity to search for a job in either city.
