“Thom, I have removed it, this is the 5th time. Pls, let's avoid mistakes next time.”

It was in 2002, I was still in the high school. We were just all boys in the house back then save mum. My two sisters were not living with us, so most home chores are done by us. We did have a sharing formular though you are at liberty to swap your day or chores with the other person for a tip.

We usually tipped ourselves with food, some pockets money and keeping mute whenever you commit a crime- this crime must be kept a secret between the offender and the eyewitness in the house. This is how far we did go to build trust among ourselves.

At that time, having a phone like the one in the picture below is a luxury-though it is still now. You must have finished with high school before dad could permit getting you one let alone registering a SIM card for you.

The eldest, Thomas (not real name, just for identity sake) was just 22, a second year in the University studying Mathematics and Statistics, was the only one dad got a phone. Also due to his stay in school, as he did come home during semester break alone. Our dad fancy communications with his children. That is seen from the moment we wake up for morning devotion till night devotion, so you cannot be missing so far you are not in the school.

During one semester break, Thomas came home, I had to stay awake in the night to be able to access his phone. He did guide his phone with all jealousy, passwording it, and keeping it beneath his well laiden pillow. The phone is always on silence except the morning call alarm set to wake him up by 05:00.

I tried my luck to see if I could use the phone. The first thing I had to battle with is how to take the phone from where he kept it and also accessing it since he had not given me the password.

I was successful with the first which is taking it from beneath his pillow. But guessing the password will be a one against million chances. I tried the general 0000, then 1234, I didn't have to guess the third too far because it was just his birth year. Just right there, the phone opened, I felt like a genius.

I have been operating dad's Nokia phone especially whenever the old man wants to send SMS, check a contact, or check his call balance, I was his Nokia-go-to expert. Thomas's phone won't be difficult to navigate.

The first thing as usual, someone will like to check on such kind of phones is your messages. Yeah, the smartphones encourages people nowadays to go directly to your WhatsApp, Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook, etc. But those old phones gave no much options as the latest phones.

Bummmm! It popped up. The six message when you scroll down. It read:

“Thom, I have removed it, this is the 5th time. Pls, let's avoid mistakes next time.”

Whaooo, you mean my brother? A one time assistance Sunday school superintendent? One who had onetime on Children's Day Celebration in the church ministered to more than 200 congregants? So Thomas is not as I think he is?I kept on asking rhetorically.

At morning devotion, I kept looking at him as a wayward person. I kept imagining things. You mean he has done 5 abortions. How much more with other girls in his school. I kept looking for other clues. I searched his bags, nothing come close. The bags were filled with textbooks, church tracts and manuals. No condom, no club or party invitation cards, no sign of those. Then I resigned to faith that Thomas must be a pretender.

I couldn't hold on any more, I told dad what I saw. Mum was confused. She could vouched to her last breath for Thomas. She would be his last and only defensor in the court. She cares less but not accusing his first son.

Dad took up the case, collected the phone. Interrogated him. But he kept denying that he never did any abortion neither did he have any girlfriend in school.

Then dad called the number, hoping to hear the voice to counter the ‘I have no girlfriend part'. Alas, it was a guy like him who picked. Then dad spoke with him and introduced himself as Thomas's father. He explained that he saw a message on his (Thomas) phone and he needed some clarity. The friend on the phone obliged to give concrete explanation.

Dad asked about the text and what warranted such from a guy to guy, as he was expecting it should be a lady and a guy.

His friend then laughed and said that he sent Thomas the message after removing the water storage bucket they did use for storing temporal water. He explained the challenges they sometimes encounter in school to get water in their dorms when going for early hour class lecture.

Thomas kept the bucket outside while fetching water but forgot to take it in before he departed home for the break. His friend arrived later to find out it was broken. That was the fifth time they would be replacing the bucket due to their lackadaisical attitude and forgetfulness.

At this point, my nerves rested, everyone smiled but me. Dad appreciated him for taking his time to clear the air.

The meeting ended with dad encouraging us to be well behaved and be cautious in our daily dealings.

This scene disturbed me until someone was able to give clear explanation of what I saw on my brother's phone.

Ah reminds me of my elder sister and I back then,my own pass mother hen. grin We went to the same primary and secondary School together then I monitor her life oooo. Even though I was in junior high school she was in senior, it didn't stop me from making sure she didn't have a boyfriend back in school days (well at least in my own little mind grin) if I see her holding hands with a guy, I will report. Talk to a particular guy too much, I will report. See any implicating thing like Valentine rose? I will report. Ah my own pass monitoring spirit.

And to think I was only 10 or 11 then . But my Mom handled the situation wisely, once she get information from me she will just laugh and act like nothing but will call my sister to ask her "about the boys" ,Big Sis will confess any attractions or distractions and Mom will Counsel her and pray with her. grin but me will be carrying my eagle eyes around, watching and "protecting her". I don't even know why I was so obsessed with her well being then. I don't understand why I'm still bother about her up till now, and she's married in her husband's house ooo. But let me just hear any peem about her, na so the hair of my back go stand like mother hen.grin . Ewa sofun mi kin sogba mi.

shocked

TheFacelessMan:

That's how i almost died.

Nneka was playing Candy Crush when she saw "I want the honey" in a SMS...

I heard a loud scream shocked shocked shocked while in the shower and dashed out naked and with soap all over my body.....

I saw a meat cleaver in her hand and bloodlust in her eyes , a psychotic look with her face all crazy advancing towards me.

She had covered the 10 metres between us in 5 seconds flat before my brains told my legs to "Vamooze"

"Swoosh".... i heard the blade whistle and my upper left bicep spurted blood.

We circled each other like 2 crazy lovers. I had put a couch between us.

I already sweating under all the soap and battling not to skid and fall on the floor....blood pouring everywhere.....

We heard a brief knock on the door and my Sister said " Obinna, where's the honey i asked for "? embarassed

To be continued.....

Something similar to this happened when I was in my final year too, my cousin came to greet me in school (I stayed outside the school) , then she was waiting to be posted for her service.
Later in the night sha, that was the first day she came, she forgot to switch her phone off and her data was on luckily for me, my date of birth was her password and I opened her phone to off her data and set alarm for her.
Then I saw the last message she sent "baby, I've inserted it but I don't like how it feels" ...... I got annoyed because we were virgins and I believed she was still a virgin too.
Chai, I didn't wait for the alarm to wake her before I woke her up by myself........ Laslas, She was treating mild toilet disease.
I was just being over protective ....... she's older than me oo... I no know wetin dey do me ... who suppose protect who?
