My E90 lowers itself on the rear when I engage R or D and lifts itself when in P or N. My former E90 (06) doesn't do this. Is it normal? cc chukel |
Re: BMW Owners' Forum by chukel(m): 12:16pm On Jun 18, 2020 |
drakeskull:I know early model automatic Benz (flat boot) did that. The rear goes up on reverse and down on drive. I have noticed some rear axle do that when parked on an inclined level without using the hand brake properly. I don't think there is anything wrong so long as it shifts smoothly during movement. |
Re: BMW Owners' Forum by drakeskull(m): 2:15pm On Jun 18, 2020 |
chukel: It shifts normally. It just goes down like it's leveling when in R or D and goes back to former position in P or N. I've seen M5 and some other M cars do that though. Just like the MY in this video lowered itself probably on launch control. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=go0yO9q9FIs |

drakeskull: chukel: Do you even physics? There's no such setting on those cars for adjusting ride height when you select P, R, or D gears. Inertia gives you that feeling of raising or lowering the rear. |
Re: BMW Owners' Forum by drakeskull(m): 10:22am On Jun 19, 2020 |
EDGEof2MORO: What's this one saying? Physicist, If u want to see it, come see for yourself. Watch the video, slowly I would advise 1 Like |

Re: BMW Owners' Forum by HeavenlyBang(m): 10:36am On Jun 19, 2020 |
drakeskull: Isn't that literally the effect of launch control? Power is being sent to the wheels, no? Then once the driver takes his foot off the brake, there's quick momentum transfer across the length of car, making the front raise even higher. 1 Like |

HeavenlyBang:It's normal with RWD vehicles, when you push car to Drive, it does that. Normally, on RWD, once you push the level to D or a forward gear, and throttle, you should observe the weight of the car transferred to the rear and that's just what happened. It is very less in AWD and in FWD, you'd hardly observe it. This simple phenomenon makes RWD vehicles gain better grip and accelerations till they max out. 1 Like |

EDGEof2MORO:physicist. Nobody says there was ride adjusting height in those vehicles. This is what happens when you rush to assert half knowledge thinking you know it all. He only asked if it's normal, to which I responded. 1 Like |

chukel:Just know that it is physics |
Re: BMW Owners' Forum by chukel(m): 10:53am On Jun 19, 2020 |
EDGEof2MORO:Mr. Physicist, that is not inertia. If it was, all vehicles will exhibit it. 1 Like |

Re: BMW Owners' Forum by drakeskull(m): 12:36pm On Jun 19, 2020 |
HeavenlyBang: I was even talking about the fact that other RWD cars that I've used don't exhibit such. Had an old E90 and E60 that doesn't do that. It occurs when the gear is engaged, the car lowers 4 inches like its resting all its weight on the rear wheels before throttling then lifts up when in P or N. |

check your suspensions, they may be automatic,i had it in my Benz 190e, but later had to disconnect it for manual. Rear suspensions. |

drakeskull: Probably you weren't too observant with your older E90 and E60. Like Kingreign already explained, it is normal with RWD vehicles. 1 Like |

uboma:It was too low to the ground, had to work on my exhaust too frequently and sometimes if I increased its fluid I will have to visit the mechanic to help flush it, the rear will be too high. 1 Like |

sexyto: The Benz 190E I know is not as low as you have described it. Except that yours got altered already from the previous owner. Your driving pattern may also have contributed to the frequent exhaust pipe breakage. What is/was the RIM size on the Benz 190E? |
Re: BMW Owners' Forum by sexyto(m): 10:44pm On Jun 20, 2020 |
uboma:Rim size is 15.bad roads contributed too and the previous owner may have had issues with it, I personally bought it from Cotonou. |
