CHAPTER FOURTEEN


"Fire on the mountain" Bari spoke out of breath when Chioma entered her apartment. (fire on the mountain was the slang they used when there was a problem).


"What is the problem?" Chioma asked, looking scared.


"Am going out on a date and i don't know what to wear" she hurriedly walked into her bedroom.


"Date kwa? which one is date?" Chioma asked raising her brows in confusion, as she followed her to the room.


"Date as in D.A.T.E, like going out on a date with a man" she let out a sigh.


"Of course i know what a date is, silly. what i don't know is how and when you started going out on dates"


"Please, just help me choose a dress to wear, I have so many that am confused" she muttered opening her wardrobe, leaving the door ajar.


"A fashion designer doesn't know what to wear to a date, is it now me that will know?" she sneered.


"I know you are angry, but it just happened suddenly, I will explain everything when i get back, just help me out with what to wear" she pouted.


"Okay. sneakers are not an option because it is a dinner date and you can't go with flats either, so you will wear one of your heel shoes" she said going to the wardrobe "Let's see what you have here" she scanned the wardrobe with her eyes "Yea, this is perfect" she giggled happily, bringing a royal blue short balloon gown out, it was designed with a white ribbon on the waist.


"I have not worn this gown since i sewed it" Bari said taking the gown from her.


"It is perfect. you have a white heel shoe right? and then a white handbag, then you are good to go" she nodded. Bari slipped into the gown and went to the shoe rack to pick the white heel shoe.


"Which wig should i use for tonight?" she asked sitting on the bed, she wore the shoe and went to look at herself in the mirror. "Wow, I love this" she smiled going back to sit on the bed.


"Am fashionable too, just that am not a tailor" she chuckled. "And as for the hair, your wine coloured wig will be fine" she added bringing the wig down. She gave it to Bari who wore it instantly.


"My face, is there anything i need to do to my face?" she asked nervously.


"I can touch your face a little, how much more time do you have before he comes to pick you up?" she asked.


'The last time he called, he said he was at the Negro fuel station, which means i have like 10 minutes more"


"Okay then, i will do a little wonder before then" Chioma smiled going to bring Bari's makeup kit. She drew the eyebrows carefully and concealed it, after she applied the eyeshadow pleasantly then she smeared the Iman foundation on her face and smoothened it with a foam, she picked a red lipstick and applied meticulously on her lips. Picking up a brush, she brushed her hair before muttering "go check yourself out, girl" she giggled happily.


"Oh my goodness, I look beautiful. Thank you, best friend, I love you to the moon and back" she smiled.


"Don't love me yet because you have a big explaination to give to me when you get back from your date" she rolled eyes.


"I will, i will. now where is my white handbag?" she asked, going through her collection of bags. she brought it down and filled it with the things she needed for the date, then someone knocked on the door. "Oh my, i think he is here" she grimaced.


"Well then, let's go, i need to see him and know if he is worth your time" Chioma chuckled walking out while Bari followed behind, shaking her head. They got to the parlour and Bari opened the door, Daniel widened his eyes in admiration.


"Oh my world, you look dazzling" he smiled.

"Thank you" Bari replied, looking away shyly.


"Hi, am Chioma, Bari's best friend and makeup artist, am sure she has not mentioned me to you" Chioma said to Daniel, making him look away from Bari to her.


"Hi, am Daniel, Bari's doctor. she did mention you to me two nights ago, she said you love Tea a lot" he winked at her.


"Tea? was that the only thing she mentioned? well, am her warrior and i fight any man that tries to play with her feelings" she placed her hand on her waist. "Chioma", Bari groaned, pinching her hand.


"You don't have anything to worry about, i don't have plans of playing with her feelings, if you don't mind, can i steal her for a few hours?" he smiled.


"Yea, you can" she said to him then turned to Bari "be careful, best friend, i will be waiting for you here" she pecked her on the cheek and left the door way for her to go out. They drove away after Daniel had opened the door for her then closed it after she had gotten in.



They drove in silence until Bari spoke up "where are we going to?" she turned to stare at him.


"It is a surprise, my lady, just relax and let me take you to wonder land" Daniel Chuckled.


"Your lady what?" she scoffed looking away.


"I like your friend, she is lively" Daniel muttered with a nod of the head.


"Oh yeah, she is one crazy Igbo girl" she chuckled slightly.


"yes, she is crazy" Daniel cackled driving into an eatery. He found a spot and parked his car. "We are here" he smiled, unstrapping his seat belt.


"Wow, this place is beautiful" Bari coeed immediately she stepped down from the car.


The gigantic 3 storey building which had glass all through making it possible for people outside to see those inside the eatery, was owned by a Chinese who used the Chinese method in erecting the building. People referred to it as "the Chinese glass house".


"This way, please" Daniel said walking into the ground floor. "I already booked a table for us, uuuum, they said table 29" he looked around until his gaze fell on the table at the extreme which had a tag "29" on it. They walked to the table and sat down, Daniel waved at the waiter who instantly walked to them with a pen and a paper in his hand.


"What would you love to take?" Daniel asked, resting his gaze on Bari. She picked up the menu on the table, scanned through it and then looked up at the waiter "I will have jollof rice and fried plantain, then one pack of Hollandia yogurt" she smiled.


"Okay Ma" the waiter replied jotting down her order. "What of you, sir?" he turned to Daniel.


"Just get me the same thing she ordered for" he smiled too. The waiter nodded and left.


"This place looks rich and beautiful" Bari muttered, looking around.


"Yes, and you look beautiful too, I love your gown and your shoe and your bag and even your makeup" he winked at her.


"Just say you love everything na, why are you recounting as though you are in kindergarten?" she hissed.


"I was restless yesterday, i couldn't just wait for tonight so that i can see you again, you have eaten deep into me" he sighed.


"How was work today at the hospital?" she asked, changing the topic.


"It was fine" he replied. The waiter came with their order, dropped them on the table and left. "Listen to me, Bari, I want you. I think about you often than you think, you have just occupied everywhere, you might think am being too straightforward but that is who i am, when i see something or someone i like, i grab it as soon as possible" he sighed.


"You know nothing about me. I have a line of baggages trailing behind me, just relax and hear my story first, you can decide if am worth your love or not" she smiled sadly.


"Am all ears" he supported his jaw with his hands.


"I have a daughter, she is 8 years old, my Mom is taking care of her in the village. Am somebody's baby mama" she put the first plantain in her mouth and chewed like she didn't say a thing.


"And so? children are blessings from the Lord, your daughter shouldn't be the reason you can't find happiness. You have a daughter? I don't mind at all. I feel something great for you. We all have our baggages too and am not exempted. I love you, for real" he said, passionately.


"I do..n't know w..hat to say" she stuttered.

"Do you have feelings for me?" he asked.


"I do like you, doctor, a lot. I have not even felt like this in a long while, but i still suggest you give me time to go through this" she sighed.


"Okay, you have as much time as you want, but don't take too long before the love i have for you bursts my heart open" he winked at her.


"You say things that make a lady feel butterflies in her stomach. if you wouldn't mind, i want to enjoy the food" she bent her head shyly and continued eating.


"When next am i going to see you?" Daniel asked abruptly.


"Am still here with you na, i have not even gone home yet" she laughed.


"I wish i can see you everyday, you gladden my heart" he smiled at her.

I would like to think the severity of the itching varies for different people. My body itches when I take my bath also though not as much BARI is going through, I also don't like entering the rain and the I RARELY use cold water to bath. I think the itching started when I was in primary school or so, I remember I was sick then and then I started reacting to water on grasses and stuffs and I have tried all sort of soaps and creams since then.

About the inheritance part, my mom told me she used to have it before she gave birth, thankfully none of my siblings have this issue. I am hoping I can one day dash in and out of the bathroom without scratching my body
