Most big corporation like banking sectors pay a starter about $120k annually. That is approximately 30 million naira which if broken down to monthly salary give about 2.5 million naira. That is the allure of working in affluent nations. Many Nigerian who understands that gap between salary scale in Nigeria and advance country have embraced the privilege. A medical doctor frustrated with poor pay in Nigera left Nigerian university teaching hospital for UK and within a year, he was sending 2 million naira to his wife in Nigeria.

It is already happening naa. German student visa invitation for interview is now over the fence except you have learnt the language. I don't know if it has gotten better this month. Canada is now a battle of the Titans. USA IS banned for Nigerians, even ppl that are currently working on H1B Visa in USA are running to Canada and Australia cos no more renewal for them. To get state nomination or even federal nomination for Australia is so competitive that ppl are now queuing for regional visa despite the strict rules and same cost.etc etc Assessment that used to take 3 months b4 is now 5months cos of the increased number of ppl processing.
There will be a time that ppl will seek to leave but won't be able to again despite their money.
Jesus Christ is Lord and the shithole zoo is getting worse everyday. Chei chei chei.

Is this even a question? You must be MADD! $120K = 120,000 * $450 = N54M annually compared to N450K * 12 = N5.4M annually.

We've not even talked about several other living factors ooo.

So you see why you're MADD! angry

It's not impossible to make such money but my question is if he's making $120k from nigeria what's the point of leaving?

With that type of money he will buy enough real estate

Does he have a github or LinkedIn? If not it's a lie Esp if he dosent have the latter

A quick question I want to ask and know hearts of peeps.

I have a badass programmer pal. Full stack engineer. Recently did a job for someone, and made some real good cash. Like up to $120,000. The money came from building software for 3 microfinance banks in the country.
He earns over 450,000 Naira as salary here in Nigeria as well. We got talking yesterday and he's telling me he cannot stay in Nigeria, that he's resigning immediately after lock down for airports are over.

His argument is 450,000 Nigerian Naira equals
1,162.97 United States Dollar, wheras in the US / Canada for instance, the salary is way higher.

Question is what do you think ?

He should sare kabakaba because no company in Nigeria can actually pay his true wage value.

Senior Devops Engineers are earning up to $100000 per year.

He should try Technation, they are endorsing exceptional talents like him for the UK tier 1 visa category.

Let him apply for work Visa or find his way there and apply with a permit... The pay is crazy
calm down it's not so easy. Don't forget he's a black man. The pecks he enjoys here will not be guaranteed there.

LOL.

1. A programmer will make more than $5k monthly by far.
2. Even if he makes only $5k monthly........$5k in US will go much more than N500k in Nigeria and he will save more than he will ever save in Nigeria.
3. Forget how much he makes in Nigeria.......this country na suffer.

What is really important is for him to leave legally if the opportunity comes because if he plans to be an illegal immigrant he will be jumping from a frying pan to fire.
Not on a similar income.
You can save much more in Nigeria than any western country.

even at that i can categorically tell you that they do not (will not) pay more than $120,000 per annum for entry - senior level especially considering he is a black developer except of course he is the genius.

And if you check well $120,000 is not much of a money over there.

Where did you get this info from?

Banking is not even an high paying career in developed countries except you start off at an investment banker. Good luck getting that investment banking job without an MBA from an ivy league university

A programmer can earn that as a starter. Remember, he has the experience already so hes not an entry level candidate but an experienced one.

Damnnnn!!!!!!!

If he can earn $120,000 while in Nigeria, what is he going abroad for? $120,000 in naira is about 54 million naira. If he decides not to work again in this life, he would still be earning cool cash.

Like the first person said, it's better to earn $120,000 in Nigeria than to earn $120,000 in the US. What he should do is to quit that remote job of N450,000 and focus fully on the remote jobs that earn him $120,000. Unless he wants to do other things within the current company sha.

But damn, this is a no-brainer.

And you say he is a badass programmer. Job would not be scarce for him. Especially remote jobs.

Chai. Why I no study programming sad sad sad sad

He will spend the money and have better quality of life for himself and particularly his family. They will have access to numerous opportunities to do many things. Look at your neighbourhood while growing up, can you count how many of your peers had the raw talent to comfortably flourish in the EPL if they had the chance, (now imagine they grew up in a system that supported the likes of Lingard) that's the most relatable example i can give. Real estate financing, quality and better education for his children, opportunities for children to aspire and become what they really want to become....better health care follow...he will be far different from someone earning 500k per month in naija, however life isnt just about the money, its about the opportunities you get to fulfill your dreams.

Na another thing o. but at least shay he cannot use that one while he sources, cos me I would like to have at least a remote job, so i can have something pending when I see a fulltime stable job.. I advised him on that note as well.

Dude. The stability issue doesn't matter. You just said your friend is a badass programmer. Companies would be begging to employ him. Programmers earn as high as lawyers and doctors. In fact, programmers earn higher than lawyers and doctors.

You can't even compare the richest programmers (Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, and the other world's richest) with the richest lawyer or doctor. Who born the lawyer papa?

That is a big lie. Get your facts right before advising. Do you know what it means to make 5k Canadian Dollars or USD? After all the tax and deduction he should go home with atleast 3.5K dollars which is a huge difference compared to meager 450K Naira.

Can 450K give him a serene environment in places like Lagos and ABJ?

And your living cost .you can get good job in america and make lots of money but god forbid if any thing like health issues arise that is where all your money would go so think rich men become poor in america cos of health cos medical treatment in america is one of the most expensive

My friends back home were paying half of that yearly in a fairly good location in lagos as rent. No place like Nigeria. He would would live large with that money and package as a single guy.
