WWE NXT reviews, recaps and reactions Tick Tock New double champion Keith Lee opened this week’s episode by thanking people who have helped him along the way. One was his late trainer Tim Brooks, who believed in him when no one else did. Another was Dominik Dijakovic. Lee acknowledged that his series of matches with Dom late last year elevated him to a place he hadn’t been. And that’s true. In fact, one could argue Keith was floundering prior to their matches. It was to the point that many, including myself, thought he was going to turn heel after a series of losses. But his fortunes turned when he won his series with Dijakovic. And because of that, he wanted to defend both of his titles against his friend then and there. The match itself was good enough. They have undoubted chemistry, but it never came close to touching the epic feel of their matches last year. That was by design though. Dominik told us why in a backstage interview when he pointed out that Lee is at a different level now than when they last fought. That’s a level that Dijakovic isn’t at right now. In general, I’m not a fan of an impromptu title match like this. With midcard titles, it makes sense to defend them all the time. Those are the workhorse titles. But world title matches, and especially double title matches, should feel special. Even if it’s a match you pretty much know the outcome, a top title match should carry an excitement because it’s world title match. Dominik Dijakovic didn’t do anything to earn an NXT title shot, and that’s something that should be earned. This would have worked just as well if Keith said he has free rein to make his own matches without Regal for the North American title and just defended that. But this is all a preference thing that I feel about titles. The post match angle furthered the slow build to Karrion Kross vs. Keith Lee. As Dom and Keith were showing their respect to each other, the lights went out and a spotlight shone on Scarlett sitting on the stage. She walked to the ring with a burlap sack in hand and emptied the remains of the hourglass broken at the hands of the champ. This is just another example of how NXT has nailed presenting Kross and Scarlett. There’s an ominous mood everywhere they go. They also work to not overexpose them. He’s rarely there front and center, but he’s often lurking. They’ve built a character who feels special and feels dangerous. Kross later interrupted a Dominik Dijakovic post match backstage promo. This led to a brawl and a match next week. Looks like Karrion is going to brutalize Keith’s friend to send a message. Main Event The main event of the evening was the advertised Women’s title match between Io Shirai and Tegan Nox. It received the last quarter of the show and went pretty much to the end. The beginning of the match, and much through the middle portions, it looked like this was Io’s game. It didn’t look like Tegan didn’t deserve to be there. Not at all. But it felt like Io was just on another level. That goes along with how they bill her as one of the best in the world. (And she is.) It was an error leading to an injury that turned things around. Io tried to deliver double knees to the challenger outside the ring. However Nox moved and Shirai delivered the double knees to the steel steps instead. That mistake cost Io that earlier advantage. She was no longer on a level above Tegan. Now Nox was able to take advantage, which lead to an exciting final five minutes where the challenger tried to realize her dream. However, the champ is the champ for a reason. Shirai had her opponent scouted and when things looked bleak for Io as Tegan set up for the Shiniest Wizard, the champ responded with a sudden Shotei palm strike. This allowed her to deliver her moonsault for the win. It was a clean win, with no interference from the likes of Candice LeRae as I predicted. Given Io Shirai is billed as one of the best there is, hanging with her for 30 is nothing to scoff at. Though I don’t know what program Nox could move into where she can get a big win to wash this taste out of her mouth. There’s Candice, but it feels like she would need to win that feud more. There’s Mercedes Martinez and Rhea Ripley, but again, they should probably be the ones to win that program. The NXT women’s division is a great place with a lot of special talent, but unfortunately for Tegan, there isn’t an obvious feud where she can build herself back up. NXT is good at this though so we’ll see what they come up with. Someone who does have an obvious next feud is Io Shirai, who was attacked by Dakota Kai post match. Kai has been booked strong as of late and makes perfect sense for a longer program for the champ. Focused Damian Priest finally got his revenge on Cameron Grimes. The Archer of Infamy found the groove he needed to find, and it looked like that groove involved more aggression. Priest game out of the gate with focus and intensity, an added level that the character needed. As a heel, he was more cocky than focused. Now he’s finally has that focus, which helps his cause. Damian really did come out for the better after that loss to Finn Bálor. Meanwhile, Cameron Grimes starting to find his own groove as an obnoxious heel. His trash talk mid match helps sell that. His feud with Priest has helped him find that character he needs to be so people want to see him lose. Revenge Robert Stone got his revenge against Shotzi Blackheart for running over his leg with her mini tank last week. Shotzi was in the middle of a match with newcomer Indi Hartwell. Hartwell looked good, but the match got to a point where it was Blackheart’s to take. That’s when my man hobbled out in a walking boot to distract his green haired antagonist. During the distraction which also caught the referee’s attention, Aliyah pushed Shotzi off the top rope, allowing Hartwell to pick up a big singles win. I would think that means they plan to keep her around. Blackheart is established and picking up a win over her, even with Rob Stone interference, is not nothing. Indi looked good in the match and has a palpable attitude that works for a heel. Meanwhile, Shotzi will be feuding with the RSB for a little. That’s not a bad thing. Rhea didn’t look any worse for feuding with the comedic Stone. The same will likely apply to Blackheart. Stone plays the joker while the ladies can just play their part as their variant of badass. The rest: - Timothy Thatcher defeated Denzel Dejournette. However when he tried to lock his hold after the match, Oney Lorcan broke that up. Last week, Thatcher tried that with Lorcan, not releasing the winning hold until Oney screamed in pain. Clearly the intense Lorcan did not care for that, and this will lead to a rematch. Great! Their match last week was really fun. The champs are strong in NXT. This was a solid fallout show from the Great American Bash...I'm tired of missing Ciampa  |

WWE Smackdown recap reviews and reactions Bray Wyatt has officially reverted back to the Eater of Worlds. I absolutely loved the Firefly Fun House music transforming into the old Wyatt gimmick quick cut. In the dark, creepy swamp, Bray said that Braun was a lost sheep looking for a home. Bray gave him purpose and created him. But Braun never lived up to being the monster that he created. Once you enter the swamp, you can never truly leave. And there’s a part of Braun that’s still living there. Braun isn’t capable of handling the gift that Bray gave him. So it’s time for Bray to destroy the monster he became. I really liked this promo. I wish that they started this angle this way, because originally having them face each other on the pretense that Braun left the Wyatt family all of a sudden on his own doing was silly. Bringing it back to the origins of Braun’s run in the family however, was great. It helped establish why Bray was a force to be reckoned with as the eater of worlds. Braun later, before his match with John Morrison, cut his own intense promo that I was partially sold on. He said a man has to grow up and face his fears, and he’s ready and willing to walk through the gates of hell and slap the devil himself in the face. The last thing he wants is for Bray to turn into the Fiend, because even he knows that the Fiend is evil’s existence. It was a decent promo but Braun still has work to do with his delivery. As I’ve always said, Braun is best as a no nonsense ass kicker with fewer words spoken. He certainly did that with Morrison! Keep him this way, WWE. The monster among men isn’t always menacing. The Swamp Fight is intriguing as it will most likely be cinematic, so all bets are off for this. Bro ain’t running the show Matt Riddle’s blessing as a great performer and more unique gimmick will end up being his curse in WWE. The “bro” stuff is great and really put Riddle on the map, even in the indies. “Bro that runs the show” was cool the first time. The second time it was kind of cool. Now - it’s a crutch given to him by WWE and will likely last for the rest of his damn career. It will be on his shirts, it will be in damn near every promo, and announcers will beat it into the ground. *Whispers* Hey WWE, he doesn’t need it, okay? So, anyhoo! The match between him and AJ was great. His Bro to sleep/powerbomb/running knee strike was a great combo. Later, AJ had one of the smoothest transitions into a calf crusher I have seen and Riddle countered into the Bro-mission, but Styles rolled him for the win. After, Styles showed respect for Riddle and shook his hand. And then Corbin blasted him from behind. Styles dipped because he already showed his respect and Corbin hit a nasty End of Days which Riddle sold like a champ.I actually enjoyed his usage on this show. Before this match, he cut a promo backstage and said that Bro was just a boy who couldn’t remember to put his shoes on. He called Riddle’s run thus far a “honeymoon phase.” It was actually a really good promo!… im interested in this new feud. Please WWE, just let Corbin be serious, and not the bow down bullshit artist. Bayley and Sasha Banks def. Asuka and Nikki Cross - We started off with Alexa Bliss’s “A Moment of Bliss”, where Bliss said a mystery guest would send shockwaves through the SmackDown locker room. Cross assumed it was her and thanked Bliss for her consideration, but after being told it wasn’t her, Bayley and Sasha came out and said that the women’s evolution truly started because of them. Then the REAL surprise guest showed up… Asuka! Bayley and Sasha attacked BlissCross and Asuka made the save, which then led to a match. Asuka loves her hip attacks doesn’t she? She got a few in on Banks early on. Cross tagged back in, as did Bayley, and Cross got her in the ring apron. Cross hit a crossbody and then hilariously, she and Asuka danced on the announce table. But that rascally Bayley got her legs up on the rope to assist herself in a win for her team. I have really liked the consistency in the booking between Bayley and Sasha being scared of Nikki Cross. She’s a force to be reckoned with, after all. Cheating to win makes all the sense in the world here and definitely something a delusional heel would do after claiming to be the best champion. One thing I noticed was there hasn’t been any special Extreme Rules stipulations announced for either women’s title matches on Sunday. Why tho? Gimme stips! Bayley and Nikki certainly deserve one after that backstage brawl post-match! Cesaro def. Big E - Cesaro and Shinsuke also subscribed to one of Eddie Guerrero’s methods, didn’t they? There was a really cool Stretch Muffler into a Cesaro Swing moment. Big E’s belly to belly is never not smooth. The cheat moment was Nakamura knocking out Kofi and taking advantage of a distracted ref, assisting Cesaro in getting the win. Later, they announce that they will do a Tables match for the SmackDown tag team titles. This makes sense as tables were the big thing for the past two weeks. I don’t know, though. I kind of feel like seeing a gimmick match on a pay-per-view that already has its own gimmick pay-per-view later in the year is cheap. I would save tables, ladders, and chairs for… Tables, Ladders, and Chairs. Extreme Rules should be for no DQ, No Holds Barred, Falls Count Anywhere type deals. I’m sure the tables match will still be great though, given who will be in it. Lacey Evans def. Naomi - No surprise here. Lacey Stole a win and also not surprisingly, didn’t get DQ’ed after literally tying Naomi’s hair onto the second rope in front of the ref. She then took advantage with a Women’s Right when Naomi, with said ref’s help mind you, got her hair untangled. Bad reffing, ref! Naomi deserves better than this. I really didn’t like Lacey’s heel gimmick and I’m not happy it’s back. Turning heel because of a loss in a karaoke contest? Really? Braun Strowman def. John Morrison - Basically a squash to show off Braun’s newfound intensity going into Extreme Rules. Morrison took his beating like a champ though. Sheamus finally showed up - After weeks of being on the tron in his home, presumably, Sheamus attacked Jeff Hardy from behind as he was being interviewed about why he chose to accept Sheamus’ challenge. The most intriguing part about this was the revelation that the bar fight between them will be next week on SmackDown, and not on Extreme Rules this Sunday. I think I honestly prefer that. Sonya, Mandy, and Otis are very much missed, y’all. This damn COVID-19 era is straight evil. While I generally enjoyed the show, a couple of sour spots irked me. This “surprise” on A Moment of Bliss was just hype to get people to tune in, which I get sure. But after this whole week of promoting the women’s revolution, WWE should have expected fans to assume an important announcement possibly regarding Evolution 2 would be coming. And the other sour spot was Naomi’s continued mishandling. Naomi deserves better, and that’s not just my point of view - it’s currently trending on Twitter. Naomi is much more talented than WWE would have you believe. It’s a damn shame. |

WWE Extreme rules horror show reviews recaps and reactions Swamp fight. Another unique concept born out of the mind of Bray Wyatt. Braun was attacked by some masked men, and then hit with a shovel by… himself in a black sheep mask. He woke up chained to a chair as Bray’s old music played. Wyatt started preaching to Braun to try and get the old monster out of him. An interesting thing to note is that Wyatt stated that he’s been “alive” this whole time, and that he’s been rotting in a hell in his own mind while watching his actions through his own eyes and being unable to control them. This version of Bray may be the “Heal” while the Funhouse Bray is the “Hurt” whenever the Fiend appears. I absolutely love the nuance here. Braun wakes up by some fire in a scene you could take out of the show “Naked and Afraid.” A random dude gets in a fight with him and then gets set on fire. Then arguably the best part of this whole thing happened. Alexa Bliss appeared in Braun’s mind telling him to come home and be with her, because he’s always wanted to be with her. Mixed Match challenge footage plays from when they got flirty. I loved this part. Wyatt used it as a distraction but Braun put him in a boat that went away. It returned empty and there was fighting in the water, until Braun got away and climbed back to the dock. Braun pushed Wyatt off and thought it was finished, but was given a mandible claw and… drowned? It’s unclear. What is clear is that the Fiend appeared in the end as the screen faded to black. My biggest takeaway from this was old Bray is being held hostage in his own mind and trying to get out, and the only way he seems to be able to do that is by having a part of his old self by his side. Why I think old Bray is actually not evil - right at the end, before the Fiend pops up, Bray appeared to be trying to get out and was pulled back into the water. The Fiend needs old Bray to stay locked away in the mind of Funhouse Bray because Funhouse Bray is his outlet for destruction. If every angle in WWE had this type of storytelling, that’d be greeeeeeeat. The cheater wins again Before the match, Alexa Bliss, Asuka, and Kairi Sane were in the back hyping Cross up. They said she’s good enough and that she’ll beat Bayley. Then Sane said that even if she loses, they’ll still be friends. The little pep rally was a great touch to make sure Cross was not feeling negative and unworthy. Cross was a ball of fury starting off this match, already going for a two count within the first minute and a half. Cross had so much fire in this match and I loved it. She hit a few cross bodies and Bayley looked exasperated. Cross’s slingshot kick and tornado DDT on the outside was great as well. And when Bayley couldn’t get it done herself, Sasha slipped her the Boss knuckles and the ref didn’t see it. The shot of those knuckles on the floor was fantastic production. Post-match, Cross was flailing around on the floor. I like what some have said of having her turn heel on Alexa. I have wanted to see a singles run from both of them in these alignments. I will enjoy Alexa trying to calm her down, playing the role as motivational speaker like on SmackDown. As for Bayley, this was expected. I also liked that Sasha helped her, and that led into the next section. Bold strategy, Cotton. Let’s see if it pays off for her. This was match of the night for me. It was definitely not finish of the night. The storytelling was wonderful. Sasha was determined to be the champion so much so she reverted back to true vicious TakeOver Brooklyn Sasha stomping on Asuka’s fingers. Sasha was basically rag dolled around by Asuka for parts of the match, and Sasha is just so damn good at it. Even though sometimes it would probably be best for her to be safer so she doesn’t seriously injure herself! Sasha’s moment of the night came after what seemed to be a botch. She fell off the top rope and clutched her knee, the ref was going to call for the bell, but Sasha screams at the ref “Get out of my face, ref! I’m the next champion. I have to be. I have to be the champion!” Bayley tossed in a tag title and Sasha tapped out, but the ref wasn’t looking. Bayley tried to interfere and Asuka kicked her down. Sasha tried to use the other title but the ref pried it away and while they argued, Asuka turned Sasha around, Sasha ducked and Asuka sprayed the mist in the ref’s face. So Bayley attacked Asuka, put on the ref’s shirt and counted the three for her. I think it’s important to point out that Bayley didn’t get jealous of the idea of Sasha also being champion like I had thought at first. Sasha didn’t win, but Bayley had the bell rung and Sasha’s music played. How in the hell do they explain this one? It was bold! However, I think you can’t just put one of those striped shirts on and become a referee. Right? … right? Bold strategy, Cotton. It didn’t pay off for him. Dolph Ziggler is a smart man. Possibly one of the smartest ever in WWE. Why? Ziggler’s super-secret stipulations for this match - extreme rules for him only! Also, McIntyre could not intentionally DQ or walk away and get counted out. Bold! It created a few neat spots in the match, too. Ziggler introduced a chair and McIntyre grabbed it, but remembered the stipulations and had to drop it. Later on the outside, Dolph set up a table and McIntyre went to powerbomb him through it, but again, no can do! Ziggler later elbow dropped him through it though. Ziggler hit multiple finishers, even one on a chair, but McIntyre kept kicking out. Ziggler set up a superkick, but McIntyre sent him to Claymore Country for the win. Poor Dolph, man. That’s a rough loss. The announcement of his stipulations just made me laugh, even though it was smart of him. I laughed, as others probably did, because we knew the inevitable - Dolph was always losing regardless of what stipulations he picked. What’s next for him, who knows? I wouldn’t want to show my face after that. As for Drew, Orton should be next for him once he disposes of Big Show on Raw. Seth Rollins took Rey Mysterio’s eye - There were some cool spots, but overall, this wasn’t fun. (And no, not just because I ate cake and then saw the end of the match. Thanks, WWE I feel like vomiting now.) Rey did two really cool sunset flip powerbombs by sliding out of the ring and executing the move on Seth into the barricade. Also a cool spot with a kendo stick on the turnbuckle. Let’s get to the important part. Rey hit a curb stomp on Seth and almost “extracted” his eye, but Seth low blowed him. Seth curb stomped Rey, and then pushed his already damaged eye into the steps once again. And we had an eye out of its socket! Then... we had Seth puking. I feel sick again just thinking about it. It was all fake of course, but not having this be cinematic kind of ruined the interest in this match for me. I appreciated the fake eye spot. The other part… no. Ugh. I was disappointed with this one. I would have rather Seth lost and continue his downward spiral. The Artists def. New Day - Well this was a surprise! I’m really happy to finally see some good vibes tossed Cesaro’s and Shinsuke’s way. Big E and Kofi brought the heat to the Artists and spread themselves around the ring area. Big E speared Shinsuke through the ropes and I almost thought it was over because they had set up a table right there, but they JUST missed that table. Cesaro smashed Big E’s head into the turnbuckle at one point and it looked like it may have rocked him a little. Cesaro put Kofi through the two tables Kofi and Big E set up. It was a really fun first match, but it lacked a bit of excitement from the crowd for me. It sort of seems like the crowd is relying more on banging on the plexiglass to make noise than cheering. Time for The Artists to shine for a little while. We just need some more tag teams on SmackDown. Let’s get Miz and Morrison back in the tag scene, and Lucha House Party. I feel like they’ll do a rematch first, though. This show had really good wrestling with a number of questionable booking decisions. Sasha and Asuka was my match of the night, and I am very interested in seeing how Bayley’s interjection as unofficial referee plays out on Raw. I am excited for The Artists starting their tag title reign on SmackDown, as well as what Funhouse Bray has in store for us. I’d prefer if Braun didn’t just show back up like Styles did after the Boneyard match and just goes back to his usual stuff. We all heard enough of this “Horror Show” tagline and I do have to say, it fit with the few horror aspects of the show. Let’s save it for October, though. The Horror Show at Hell in a Cell sounds better |

I no enjoy this extreme rules at all. It wasn't extreme at all. Only two matches stood out Drew/Zigler and Asuka/banks. I actually did not understand why they can't allow Asuka to have a decent title defense. From dq against Jax to this crapfest ending. Who de write some of this nonsense abeg  Is Asuka still champion or is it banks? |

Sasha said last night she fought for the title, unlike Asuka, who literally got handed the title when Becky Lynch went on maternity leave. Bayley said that she had to do what was right because she is a role model, so she borrowed the ref’s shirt and counted the pin for Sasha.Asuka and Kairi Sane came out and Asuka was irate, saying that Sasha wasn’t ready for her and that the title is hers. And that’s when Stephanie McMahon popped up on the tron and said that Sasha was not that actual winner of the match last night, and called the ending a “true horror show” (which is what that promo was as well!) But, next week, Asuka and Sasha will have a rematch to determine who the rightful champion is, and Bayley can’t help. Abeyance is back! Okay so Stephanie didn’t actually say abeyance like WWE did way back in 2013 during the Bryan/Orton feud. But she also technically didn’t call Asuka the champion. So, no one is champion! (Abeyance is the champion.) In all seriousness, I don’t quite get why Asuka isn’t the champion since the match was just erased after the referee was blinded. The mist isn’t a DQ, but Bayley is also not a referee. Couldn’t another referee have just come down and continued the match? Apparently Asuka was supposed to retain her title at Extreme Rules but there was a last minute change in plans. A last minute change of anything in WWE is usually a bad sign, as we saw with parts of this show. Another legend falls Orton cut a great promo earlier in the evening saying 175 days ago when he swung a steel chair down on Edge’s surgically repaired neck was one of the best moments in his life. Being in Evolution and being the youngest heavyweight champion weren’t as good. Big Show followed up with his own promo later, saying he hoped and prayed for a long time that the Legend Killer would never come back, but he guesses the voices in his head just got a little too loud. Show decided he wanted to partake in a little bit of extreme rules himself (it was unsanctioned after all) and got a table from outside and set it up in the right halfway through the match, but Orton got out of the way and Show went through. One RKO didn’t put him away, but a second did the job. In between all this Andrade and Garza came out to help Orton, but the Viking Raiders took care of them I guess because when we came back from break they were all gone. Don’t really know what the point of that was. The RKO wasn’t good enough for Orton, and as Show struggled to get up, the punt kick made its return. Now that Big Show is out of the picture, Orton should be primed and ready for a shot at Drew McIntyre. You know… once Drew is done with his current stupid feud, which I’ll briefly touch on later. Messiah’s wrath continues Seth told us that he understood the rules for his Eye for an Eye match, and what happened will stay with him for the rest of his life. Seth asked if the WWE Universe regrets making him the Monday night Messiah. Seth blamed us for Rey Mysterio’s downfall and said we shouldn’t dwell in the past. Now no one stands in his way and then Aleister Black interrupted and said he would rectify the situation and charged the ring. Murphy tried to stop him but Aleister wiped his behind around the ring and tossed him over the announce table. I love that this is somewhat based in reality. While it technically was WWE’s fault with the dreadful Fiend booking at last year’s Hell in a Cell, it finally led to a pivot in Rollins’ stale character as the Monday night Messiah. Rollins targeted Aleister’s right arm throughout the match. Aleister hit a Black Mass early but Murphy prevented him from pinning Rollins and Rollins rolled out. He grabbed Aleister’s right arm from the top rope and pulled it down. He hit the curb stomp and won. After the match Rollins and Murphy kept attacking the right arm and probably have “injured” it. No help from Humberto Carrillo, or… anyone. My disappointment from last night has carried over. Again the match was good, but the ending was not. That was Aleister’s first loss in a long time and it wasn’t even mentioned. His strong booking has actually never been mentioned at all. Also, if Humberto is out for reasons, why couldn’t KO or someone come out to assist? I don’t know if this was planned or part of the rewrite of the show but there were better ways to do this. Seth has now won twice when he shouldn’t have in my opinion. Kairi Sane def. Bayley - After the unofficial celebration for Sasha, Bayley and Kairi Sane had their scheduled match. Unfortunately I was unable to see a chunk of this one but I did see the magnificent ending. I don’t think I have ever seen such a cool transition out of a belly to belly like I did when Kairi schoolboyed Bayley for the upset. Kairi was apparently done with WWE but unless this was just a one off to send her home on a high note, this would technically mean (in WWE world) that she could challenge for the SmackDown women’s title, right? I know they will have Bayley and Sasha on for follow up with Nikki Cross, but really, why show up? I sure as hell wouldn’t if an unhinged person like Cross was mad at me for cheating. Mustafa Ali, RicoRic def. MVP, Bobby Lashley, and Shelton Benjamin - MVP claimed once again that he is the new US champion. He praised Lashley for putting Apollo on the shelf and said he’s the champion because Apollo is home nursing his neck and eating humble pie. He called RicoRic dumb and dumber, which prompted them to come out and say that joke was funny in 2006, the last time MVP was relevant. They also said that they have a returning superstar to help them out. That returning superstar - MUSTAFA ALI! … AliCoRic? Yes? No? The Hurt Business once again rag dolled Ricochet around. MVP telling Ricochet to smile for the camera was a great spot. Benjamin and Lashley kept him away from the other side and worked him over. Ali and MVP got the hot tags and it all broke down. Benjamin took out Ced, Ric took him out, Ali sent Lashley over the announce table. Ali hit a neck breaker and 450 for the win. I am incredibly happy to see Mustafa Ali back and this trio could be a stable and make me happy, please! Ruby Riott def. Peyton Royce - The EST of WWE was being interviewed and the very evil Peyton interrupted her. You don’t interrupt Bianca Belair. Peyton said Bianca is the dumb-est for showing back up. Bianca said that wherever Billy is, she hopes she enjoys watching her get whooped. God I love Bianca Belair. Peyton had a nasty submission stretching Ruby’s arm, stretching the 5 count as well. Peyton dominated the first few minutes. She went up to the top but Ruby ducked her and hit the Riott kick for the win. She looked shocked that she won, which is sad because she never should have been on a losing streak. This was quick but it’s great to see Ruby winning. I hope that the “business” Billy is on is a healthy one. Street Profits def. Angel Garza and Andrade - This was unexpected, considering the tired trope of non-title matches with champions. Andrade and Angel Garza subscribed to the Street Profits “talk shit, get hit” pamphlet before the match. Interestingly, there was no miscommunication between Garza and Andrade in this match. They worked over Montez and Dawkins got the hot tag and cleaned house. Montez got AIR as usual for a frog splash and won. After the match, Zelina was irate at her men backstage but they said that they were on the same page. Dolph Vs Drew - Ziggler gets a rematch, I don't know how but he gets another opportunity at the title but this time Drew gets to pick the stipulation but he won't tell Dolph until the bell rings Shelton Benjamin is the new 24/7 Champion - Lashley and MVP were in the back finishing a conversation with Ron Simmons, and Truth pulled up with a frying pan. MVP asked the 24/7 champion to join them in the ring and Truth declined, but Lashley clarified that he meant the “new” 24/7 Champion. Shelton attacked Truth and pinned him. Fine segment and it’s nice to see Shelton with some gold around his waist after a while 1 Like |

WWE NXT reviews recaps and reactions Near Perfect Karrion Kross’ rollout has been near perfect. NXT has been careful not to over expose him, for awhile just teasing his presence. When he finally debuted, they made sure his matches were occasional, ensuring they’d feel special every time. And with that superb entrance, they always feel special. This week was one of his matches and once again, they nailed it. Dominik Dijakovic was the perfect opponent for Kross right now. He’s bigger than Karrion, or at least taller, and unlike Bronson Reed weeks back, he’s more experienced. It was one of Kross’ biggest challenges. In fact, given the way he easily disposed of Tommaso Ciampa at TakeOver: In Your House, it could be the biggest challenge in his NXT career. This was the most we’ve probably seen Kross sell. That’s not an issue. If he’s going to be in an eventually title match with Keith Lee, he’s going to be selling. But with the way they booked this segment, they were still able to make him feel extremely dangerous. Things started to get ugly when Dijakovic was sent into the steel steps, landing between them in the ring. Kross delivered a nasty kick to the steps, giving the image that he was crushing his opponent’s head between steel and steel. Such a brutal move brought Keith Lee to the ring to check on his friend. This is the other reason Dominik was the perfect choice for this match. Not only could he give Karrion a challenge, but anything Kross does to him will also hurt Dom’s friend Keith Lee. The NXT champ wanted to throw in the proverbial towel for his friend, but Dijakovic insisted he don’t, telling his friend that whatever happens, it’s his choice. That forced Lee to watch helplessly as his eventual opponent dismantled the man he credited just last week for helping his career. And without saying a word, Keith’s face told the story they needed to tell. You could read his conflict and his anger. Meanwhile, after surviving quite the onslaught from Dijakovic, Kross walked out feeling just as dangerous as he did coming in, if not more. It still feels like it could be too early to run this match at TakeOver: Bleep. I assume Kross is going to win his eventual title match and if that’s the case, Lee’s reign will be just six weeks long. But Karrion cutting the legs out from under what should be an epic run for Lee could be just another reason for fans to hate the man. We’ll have to see what the next month brings. After this, I can’t imagine them being able to delay the title match too long. The stakes already seem too high to drag it out. Relinquished NXT kicked off this week’s show with the announcement that Keith Lee will be relinquishing the North American title. His reason being he didn’t want to hold down the growth of the promotion. By holding both titles, he was taking away a prize for the up and comers to fight over. That makes sense. It’s a bit disappointing as I love the story of a fighting champion having to fight twice in a night until he loses one or both titles. But they could probably do more by having a new midcard champion to anchor that division as Lee defends the promotion’s top prize. Plus, having one person hold the top title and the midcard title muddles the distinctions between the “divisions.” To crown a new champion, there will be a ladder match at TakeOver: Bleep in a month. And to qualify for that match, wrestlers need to win a triple threat match. This week’s triple threat was Bronson Reed vs. Roderick Strong vs. Johnny Gargano. And it was the perfect formula of two smaller, sleazy heels trying to take down a man who’s power dwarfs theirs. This style delivered a match where Big Boi Bronson looked like a beast while the other two didn’t looked out matched because they could out strategize the big man. They needed big moves to get Reed to go down, the man not selling the offensive he shouldn’t. And when they did get him down, they lit into each other like we should only expect between these two vets. Bronson picked up the W with a big splash from the top onto Roddy. Reed is the right choice to win. If they want to use the North American title to help build up the next crop of talent, Bronson is your man right there. Gargano and Strong don’t need it. Put the spotlight on a man who could be your future. Blue Chip Signing So Robert Stone was run over by a tank again. His client Aliyah had a match with Shotzi Blackheart, continuing the feud between the brand and the lone wolf. It was a pretty good match, one of Aliyah’s better ones. Robert Stone tried to distract Shotzi for the win, but he was unsuccessful. After the match, Blackheart ran over Stone’s good leg with a tank. But then she was attacked by Mercedes Martinez. Stone continues to be a blast. He’s so very good at playing the comedic role, with his over the top selling. Plus he acts enough like a jerk that we don’t feel bad for him. He’s become a must see for me every week. And this story has also helped elevate Aliyah, who I find myself more interested in now than ever before. Meanwhile, it looks like Mercedes Martinez’s first real focus is going to be Shotzi Blackheart. It’s a good program for both women. Blackheart will get to work with a true veteran. Win or less, this feud will elevate her. Meanwhile, Mercedes gets a feud that she will likely win. (At least she should if they want to portray her as the dangerous killer.) To tie it all together, Mercedes Martinez later agreed to join Robert Stone’s Brand. Her reasoning? She wants someone to do all the work so she can just get into the ring and kick ass. While that makes sense, it also feels like associating with that doofus takes just a little of the badass from away her. Likely it won’t be a long partnership, and she’ll be kicking the crap out of him sooner than later though. Hoss Fight Dexter Lumis defeated big Killian Dain by submission (Dain passed out in his choke). This served as one of Lumis’ most impressive wins. Given the shear size and power of the Beast of Belfast, Lumis no long held his usual advantage. It was a really fun match, a combination of your standard hoss bruiser and some more athletic moves, especially on Dexter’s end. The man did a kip up into a leg drop that was really dope. He’s got a senton in his arsenal as well. In the middle of the match, Dain’s shirt ripped and the rest of the bout, it looked like he was wearing a massive thong. And unfortunately, I’m still immature and couldn’t not see that the rest of the way. Other happenings: - Timothy Thatcher defeated Oney Lorcan in their rematch. This time, it wasn’t locking in a hold, but instead reversing a hold into a pin, that was able to score the victory. Just another way that he’s proficient in the ring. - Breezango picked up a W this week against Ever-Rise, a team who has been used as enhancement for a little while now. The boys were dressed as Mounties, Beth Phoenix delivered some beaver puns with a straight face, and this team has struck a good balance of funny and skilled in the ring that wasn’t there on the main roster. This was a very good episode. They continue to nail Karrion Kross as they set up the eventual title match, Bronson Reed won a fun match to enter the North American championship ladder match, and Robert Stone continues to entertain. Grade: A |
