You are welcome to disagree 'totally'. I was merely addressing the '96% claim' made by the OP in the payment of school fees, using my experience in a number of schools over some years in my locality, not the 'wickedness' of proprietors.

Sir/ma, I can say the inability to collect up to 90% fees by the school/proprietors in your locality shows the incompetent level of the school managers. Besides, you have said something about "family" in your opinion. With that alone, money may not enter as expected, but i tell you, these people lie alot, school business is a big cash in stuff.
Another thing is that the money used for salaries by these proprietors is very small compare to what they collect from their customers.

Until u start a private school , you will know how he be... most students/pupils would not pay until exam and even if some go pay, na 30%, dem go dey beg make dem allow their wards do exam.. some parents self fit take their children away from the school in the following term and going to another when the debt accumulated is too much.... except super standard private school oo, but an average private school in naija na doom.. it's not the fault of the proprietors all the time.. they pay mostly on what they earn..

You may be right sir, but the salaries these people pay their staff is nothing compare to what they collect from their customers, most especially a school writing external examination.

It is not as easy as you think,if you have been an insider in issues regarding to school fees payment, you will understand that all parents do not pay as at when due. Some even pay installmentally, others pay beckon on the school management to permit their children for a period of time.

That's what I was explaining to him. Who no know no go know. I just didn't want to go into confidential information. I just think he doesn't work in the average private school or he probably isn't involved in the financial aspect of the place he works.

And if you drive the kids home, some parents have the heart to leave with all the monies they owe the school to another school.
Of course, payment for all teachers where I work stopped after March. And the school isn't running an online programme because of the nature of the environment. Where I work, children payments are logged online and anyone with permissions can see the payment history of the students. Exam numbers for term's exams are given to only those who have completed a substantial part of their fees. Plus fee drive is undertaken by teachers. So it's not the proprietor knows 'alone' because we all see through one or most of these ways.

I was going to say something like this. I've a first-hand experience of how pupils of private primary schools pay and I can boldly say only about 10-20% pay school fees within the first month of school. Some even pay half and promise to pay the remainder at some later date. Except private schools that do the "no pay, no school" method (of which a lot of private schools don't do), then it'll be hard to pay teachers full salaries for the months since even the parents will complain of not going to work hence, no money.

Seriously private school is modern slavery..you will teach and teach and teach!!! I read B.A History and Diplomatic studies...my school where i teach is 6 classes from Jss1_3 and SS1_3 ....Social studies/Government with pay of 15k....its really pathetic because before month end you have already finish the money either on transport, feeding or other responsibilities at home....i never imagine myself like that, but Nigeria wahala!!
To my greatest surprise this proprietress does not appreciate our efforts to the extend if you come late the cashier will deduct from your salary, sometimes you dont eat at home because you want to catch up with work...as if thats not Ok..they will still give you responsibility as Formaster/formmistress, set exams, test, marking, take attendance and the most stressful lesson plan and still pay you peanuts while they enrich thereself....i just wish there should be a union for private teachers because they are enslaving them...if you want to talk they will sack you......Just hoping and praying for a better jab!!! With qualification..
But a Good Samaritan can help me even thou is anything i have been missing GiveAways on private teachers dou!
I have not been paid since March

2049991886 Zenith Bank ......thanks for your kind Gesture since we dont know when school will reopen.

Yes I believe him/her. The person said he is a young school leaves and he is doing the job pending when he/she gains admission

A girl came to me that she needed to change where she was teaching to a new one. Fortunately for her, my son's school needed teachers. I told the propritress about her. The propritress said i should senf for her which she, the girl did. To my surprise, the girl was offered N8, 000. I told her not to accept it. The school owner too did not change her mind.

Every honest proprietor is supposed to have paid it staff their February, March and April salary in full plus even necessary bonus because they collect their fees per term and this money is paid in whole and they normally demand this money (fee drive) from second week of resumption and their dead line for payments is always that first month of resumption and the lockdown started towords ending of March , almost all school's does this. In other words %96 percent of schools in Nigeria have already collected their pupils school fees before the covid-19 lock down.
To show How wicked black man can be most of the proprietors/proprietress has dubiously refused to give their staff their complete payment for april ,may. most school owner are not always honest to their workers because no regulatory bodies beams their watch light on them.

So if you are a teacher you teach in a private school and you did not receive your April and may salary from your director , just know you have been cheated.
They are not cheated. Some parents are yet to pay for 2nd, promised to pay at the beginning of 3rd term but alas covid 19 happened
Re: How Private School Owners Are Dubiously Cheating Their Teachers by 9gerian: 8:12am On Jul 18, 2020
True to varying degrees per different schools.

I confirmed that private some schools have been getting their full fees with the online session that is ongoing. They only cut off some few items like end of year party, inter house sports etc

You are correct. I am a private school teacher, although I do not plan on going back after this lockdown is over.

I am in charge of a class of about 55 students and 45 of them had fully paid their school fees before the lockdown. Many of the rest have paid large chunks of their fees.

Let me state that the school fees paid in my class alone for one term is enough to pay my salaries for almost two years.

I have been teaching for about two years and have been studying how things are done and thus have concluded that the proprietors are not telling the truth about the profitability of this business.

I know how much my school is making and how much the expenses and running costs per term is, and yet my proprietor will keep complaining about parents not paying up as reasons for not paying our salaries on time, even though I know that up to 90 percent have paid.

Because parents will pay another school fees when the lockdown is lifted abi? They are probably holding the money till schools resume.
