Every honest proprietor is supposed to have paid it staff their February, March and April salary in full plus even necessary bonus because they collect their fees per term and this money is paid in whole and they normally demand this money (fee drive) from second week of resumption and their dead line for payments is always that first month of resumption and the lockdown started towords ending of March , almost all school's does this.

In other words %96 percent of schools in Nigeria have already collected their pupils school fees before the covid-19 lock down.

To show How wicked black man can be most of the proprietors/proprietress have dubiously refused to give their staff their complete payment for April, May. Most school owners are not always honest to their workers because no regulatory bodies beams their watch light on them.

So if you are a teacher you teach in a private school and you did not receive your April and may salary from your director , just know you have been cheated.

OP you will not write this rubbish the day you start running a school!

I personally know 2 school proprietors who have gone into hiding because the rent for the buildings they use as schools have become due but there is no money with which to pay!

You are correct. I am a private school teacher, although I do not plan on going back after this lockdown is over.

I am in charge of a class of about 55 students and 45 of them had fully paid their school fees before the lockdown. Many of the rest have paid large chunks of their fees.

Let me state that the school fees paid in my class alone for one term is enough to pay my salaries for almost two years.

I have been teaching for about two years and have been studying how things are done and thus have concluded that the proprietors are not telling the truth about the profitability of this business.

I know how much my school is making and how much the expenses and running costs per term is, and yet my proprietor will keep complaining about parents not paying up as reasons for not paying our salaries on time, even though I know that up to 90 percent have paid.

thats true i have worked for 2years and calculated class of 55 can pay more than 3teachers...we are paid 15k and i have calculated this proprietress make dubios money, because they in charge of everything even with school uniforms, its only chalk they buy and other few things....but always complain, the fact remains before a student write Test or Exams he/she must pay school fees..theres no excuse to say students have not paid....they just make us do the work they chop our sweat
Monkey dey work baboon dey Chop!!

so in your mind you think it's 96% of all private school pupils that pay complete fees? as usual, you're just a frustrated teacher looking to help calculate the profit of the school owner like you're all business partners. you think all teachers salary come from school fees? if you so know how to run a school, go rent a shop and start your own school and use all your profit to pay your staffs

That's what I was explaining to him. Who no know no go know. I just didn't want to go into confidential information. I just think he doesn't work in the average private school or he probably isn't involved in the financial aspect of the place he works.

Are you minding him...they always assume that running a business is easy cos they only factor in the revenue while ignoring all the expenses!

Nah, not buying it

DesChyko:

Since most private schools are patronized by families that live on somewhere below the middle class income range, I think I have a pretty good idea how they make their payments.

Some parents pay early on. Some pay after the first fee drive. Some pay in parts when they get salaries. Some pay whenever those sponsoring the child's education send the money. Some wait until exam time to pay. And some will still not pay that term. And the school will still consider some pleas too. So 96% is a really unrealistic number. I'ld go with 50% at most.

What you should insist on instead is the school management seeking other possible ways to ensure their staff get paid.

I am a CORPER in one secondary school here in Akure Ondo state, COVID-19 forced us home since 20 March 2020.. I am the only PHYSICS TEACHER in the school, I teach Ss1, ss2 and Ss3.. my salary is 5k per month there.. the man Paid all the teachers their 14k per month salary, so during EASTER, he paid them 7k, half of their March salar yand he refused to pay me out of my 5k because may be He feel I am collecting allawee.. The JAMB lesson I took for every 1hour is 400, my JAMB total money is 4,400, the man only gave me 1k out of it and the students said they have all paid him for their JAMB LESSONS.. The owner of the school has not CALLED ME FOR ONCE SINCE WE LEFT SCHOOL.. I am shocked and surprised.. na home lessons wey I dey do dey help me small.... private school owners are wicked.. most of their teachers here are still trying to bind their project in school sef..

Mine has not paid March up until now, and we have some family men working in my school. It has not been easy. But God has been sustaining us.

I expect those family members not to return. The only reason I am happy about the coming of Coronavirus is that, at least these greedy school owners can be deprived of school fees they so much love than their actual teachers.

I said samething on a previous thread when teachers said they want to protest and keep on blaming govt for greedy proprietors.. Instead of them to channel the energy to asking for proper welfare from the school owners... Truth be told the mushroom schools are cheating teachers and they dont have any excuse to owe workers salary... How much is the total salary self that they have refused to pay in some places since feb... Just wickedness... And i must confess any teacher supporting the act of wickedness needs to be examined..... You are a teacher in a mushroom private school and the mushroom proprietor refused to pay you since feb and you are online defending the mushroom devil.. Then you deserve no pity..... Continue to praise your oppressors till common sense locates you...

My heart goe out to all private school teachers.
I've been there before; many-a-school owners are just users and nothing more.
I see academic teaching as a calling, if you are not called don't let the need to make ends meet keep you there.
By all means, find a way to leave. An ordinary sales (or marketing job as we like to call it offers more to your corporate appeal than teaching.

More so, as a teacher you get to mould lives especially if you function at the nursery level.

May God help you with the courage to go fir what you deserve most

Seriously private school is modern slavery..you will teach and teach and teach!!! I read B.A History and Diplomatic studies...my school where i teach is 6 classes from Jss1_3 and SS1_3 ....Social studies/Government with pay of 15k....its really pathetic because before month end you have already finish the money either on transport, feeding or other responsibilities at home....i never imagine myself like that, but Nigeria wahala!!
To my greatest surprise this proprietress does not appreciate our efforts to the extend if you come late the cashier will deduct from your salary, sometimes you dont eat at home because you want to catch up with work...as if thats not Ok..they will still give you responsibility as Formaster/formmistress, set exams, test, marking, take attendance and the most stressful lesson plan and still pay you peanuts while they enrich thereself....i just wish there should be a union for private teachers because they are enslaving them...if you want to talk they will sack you......Just hoping and praying for a better jab!!! With qualification..
But a Good Samaritan can help me even thou is anything i have been missing GiveAways on private teachers dou!
I have not been paid since March

Until u start a private school , you will know how he be... most students/pupils would not pay until exam and even if some go pay, na 30%, dem go dey beg make dem allow their wards do exam.. some parents self fit take their children away from the school in the following term and going to another when the debt accumulated is too much.... except super standard private school oo, but an average private school in naija na doom.. it's not the fault of the proprietors all the time.. they pay mostly on what they earn..

Bros, you really understand the business.
I'm even looking for finance for another business o. Private school business is not easy especially , when it's not a super standard school...

Don't mind the OP and Co. blaming proprietors .

It is not easy for private school teachers at this period but some teachers are cashing out. There's a teacher in my school who turns her house to lesson center, average of 40 students/pupils are attending the lesson. #50 for pupils while students are paying #100 daily. Imagine! A teacher that used to get 17000 as salary for 30 days. She is really cashing out and pray school should not resume. Even when the online teaching was to be introduced she opposed it.
