Self determination is about being self governing. Its got nothing to with choosing ethic group. The Ikwerre people can choose to be whatever they want to be, they can even claim to be Chinese, but the reality on the ground is something nobody can ever run away from.

No, it doesn't make sense that one community will have indigenes with allegiance to different ethnicities. You guys are having serious identity crises and that's quite shameful.

The question is, the Igbo language and culture being practiced by the Ikwerre, is it borrowed? I mean did the Ikwerre arrive from Benin to borrow Igbo language and culture while discarding that of Benin?

At what point in history did the Ikwerre lose their heritage and begin to use that of Igbos?

When the English people arrived places like Australia and America, or the Spanish arrived places in Latin America, they did not lose their language and cultures so why is that of Ikwerre different?

Nobody migrated from anywhere, God Almighty did a perfect job with creation. IBO is a TRIBE with many ethnic nationalities which includes the IKWERREs.

From Nsukka the Igbo language becomes corrupted until it became centralized around okigwe and as you leave okigwe approaching Ngwaland it starts getting corrupted into oyigbo and then the ikwerres, among the ikwerres it became worse with the phalga ikwerre but become a little comprehending in Obalga. From Obalga to the main ikwerre local govt the ibo language normalizes to the central tongue going through mbaise to an extent and normalized around the Anambra area into asaba and get corrupted going forward into Agbor, igbanke until the language disappeared.

Coming from Yahe in cross river State the language get heavily corrupted through the WAWA zone into Afikpo, Izza, Ibeku, normalize again around Okigwe and approaching Ngwaland get corrupted until the language get to ikwerre land and terminates with their IJAW neighbors.

For political reasons, the cord of division were sowed during the War era and it has generated to hatred amongst siblings. No igbo man is more ibo than an ikwerre man, we should stop mocking God.

Ibo man has never claimed the land or people of Anang man, Ibibio, Ijaw, Idoma, Kogi...these tribes borders the Ibo nation on all sides so the ikwerres should have a rethink.

I have never disputed the Benin ancestry that's why i had to call the op to order for making this grievous mistake that can cause serious conflict if not checkmated.


That's why we stepped in to douse tensions. Imagine If Bini starts accusing igbo ndioma of claiming their people.

Self determination is about becoming self governing, it is not about ethnic identity. Ikwerre people speak Igbo as their ancestral language and have Igbo surnames. If the Ikwerre now say they are not Igbo, they need to explain where their language and surnames came from

Nobody needs to explain anything to anybody, any group of people can be whatever they collectively agree they are, nobody will force anybody to become igbo, stop being so emotional

The belief that someday nationalities may be redefined in Nigeria is a strong factor in all these brouhaha. The city of porthacourt is seen as a solution to maritime challenge that may confront a future igbo country and having porthacourt not necessarily lkwere make the lkwere an important group. To the best of my knowledge Switzerland and Austria have no such boundaries and the success of the igbo is in their capacity to fetch success for themselves anywhere in the world.I think these claims are unnecessary.
I feel the affinity any tribal group may have for an ethnic group may not necessarily be borne out of similar languages or cultures but also economic and about other characteristics of the dominant groups like attitude to religion freedom, cosmopolitan exposure and democratic values.
I feel if the lkwere feel important values to them are only guaranteed elsewhere binding with igbo nation may be a pipe dream.
I think ethnic groups with certain interests in other groups can look inward if they have sufficient capacity to deliver on such important guarantees.
