Nooil:The 1Cor 16:1,2 refutes this your stand. Can you recite it here from the translation of the Bible you use please. Let us analyse against the backdrop of the law on tithing. And I will give biblical gist of what led Paul to make that statement which of course has nothing to do with tithe |

Investnow2017: Now concerning the collection for the saints: as I directed the churches of Galatia, so you also are to do. On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made. |

Nooil:I see. Ok this article will help you understand better the need for the law on tithing and the effect of change of the on the practice: Tithing—Is It Necessary? THE secretary of an Anglican diocese in South Africa is worried. His church is in the midst of a financial crunch that makes it difficult to pay the ministers. His solution: Emphasize tithing to the parishioners. But just what is a tithe? Some say it is giving for religious purposes “a 10th of all you receive.” Though the manner of calculating the tithe varies from one religion to another, many ministers feel the need to promote tithing. “It is a great pity that we have not stressed tithing more,” said a Catholic priest in Africa. The Worldwide Church of God, in a magazine article about how to avoid poverty by becoming a partner with God, said: “To begin your relationship with God, you must first obey God’s law of tithing.” The article added that those who do not “are stealing from God.” But does God require you to tithe? It may come as a surprise to learn what the Bible says about it. Tithing and the Law of Moses Tithing was part of a body of laws given by God through Moses to the ancient nation of Israel. Twelve tribes of Israel were required by law to support a 13th tribe, the priestly Levites, who had no land inheritance. This enabled the Levites to concentrate on the spiritual needs of the nation. (Numbers 18:21-24) Being an agricultural people, the Israelites were not required to pay the tithe in cash. Rather, it was to come from the land’s produce and from the increase in livestock. If produce was to be tithed and an Israelite wanted to give money instead, then he had to pay 20 percent more than the value of the produce.—Leviticus 27:30-33. God’s command on tithing was a serious matter. If an Israelite mistakenly used for himself some of what he was going to tithe, then he had to make amends. How? By giving an extra 20 percent and offering up an animal sacrifice for his guilt. (Leviticus 5:14-16) Though not every Israelite could share in the priesthood, everyone could share in the support of the priestly service through the tithe. All of this was included in God’s law on tithing. Therefore, it fitted the circumstances of that ancient people. But does it fit the circumstances of people today? More importantly, are Christians commanded to tithe? A Change of Law A few years after the resurrection of Jesus, uncircumcised non-Jews were converted to Christianity. “It is necessary to circumcise them and charge them to observe the law of Moses,” some Jewish Christians contended. (Acts 15:5) Others did not agree. So Jesus’ apostles and other experienced Christians met in Jerusalem to discuss the issue. They wanted to discern God’s will. Did he require Christ’s followers to keep the Law of Moses, which included tithing? Experiences were related showing a change in God’s dealings with non-Jews, and this was verified from God’s own prophetic Word. (Acts 15:6-21) What was the decision? The meeting came to a unanimous conclusion. Christians were not to be burdened with the Law of Moses. There were, though, a few “necessary things” that must be obeyed. Was tithing one? The inspired decision read: “The holy spirit and we ourselves have favored adding no further burden to you, except these necessary things, to keep abstaining from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled and from fornication.” (Acts 15:25, 28, 29) Interestingly, God’s law on tithing was not listed among the “necessary things” for Christians. Later, the apostle Paul explained that God’s Law covenant with Israel had been abolished by Jesus’ death. “[God] blotted out the handwritten document,” he said, “and He has taken it out of the way by nailing it to the torture stake.” (Colossians 2:14) This does not mean that Christians have no law. Rather, there has been a change of law that now involves “the law of the Christ.”—Galatians 6:2; Hebrews 7:12. The apostle Paul lived in harmony with this change of law. Though working hard in the formation of one congregation after another, he never appealed for payment in the form of tithes. Rather, he was willing to cover his own expenses by working as a tentmaker on a part-time basis. (Acts 18:3, 4) In all honesty he could say: “These hands have attended to the needs of me and of those with me.”—Acts 20:34. What guidance, then, do Christians have in the matter of giving? How much should you give? The Christian Way of Giving Jesus Christ was the most generous man to walk this earth. His example has inspired many to act generously. “Practice giving,” he said, “and people will give to you. They will pour into your laps a fine measure, pressed down, shaken together and overflowing. For with the measure that you are measuring out, they will measure out to you in return.” (Luke 6:38) Are there restrictions here? No. Christians are encouraged to give generously, which may even be more than a tenth if they can afford it.—Luke 18:22; Acts 20:35. On the other hand, a Christian might suddenly be faced with some urgent expense, perhaps due to an accident or sickness. To give a tenth of his salary under such circumstances might deprive members of his family of the necessities of life. That would be unchristian.—Matthew 15:5-9; 1 Timothy 5:8. Christian giving is voluntary. It takes into account that each individual has different circumstances in life. “If the readiness is there first,” the Bible says, “it is especially acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what a person does not have.”—2 Corinthians 8:12. How much, then, should you give? That is a question that you must resolve for yourself. The depth of your own heart appreciation for God—not some predetermined tithing formula—will determine what you give. As the Bible urges: “Let each one do just as he has resolved in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7) Tithing was a provision of the Mosaic Law covenant to support Israel’s temple and priesthood. For Christians today, it is neither commanded nor necessary. Investnow2017: Going by that list, it means I'm free to commit murder, adultery, lying, etc. Because they were not listed as necessaries. About the accident, you can choose to give your tithe yearly, monthly, weekly, etc. And you only give when you earn. I could paste a writeup supporting tithing as well, so posting one doesn't change anything. Tithing is important. Let there be food in the house of God. The food doesn't cater to the pastors alone, but widows, children, etc. Before the law, no one compelled Abraham and Jacob to tithe. They gave out of the abundance of their heart. If we as Christians give out of the abundance of our hearts, no one will be preaching tithing every day. But we are so tight-fisted and self-centered. That's why the world is in chaos with so many so-called Christians in it. You all keep giving atheists something to laugh about. Arguing on things you should know by heart. The law is in your heart as a Christian. Listen to it and let it lead you. |

Nooil:I think your perception is more socialist than theocratic, and it again misses the main point. To say God commanded something and impute curses whereas he did not command so is criminal, and constitutes a spiritual flaw. The point is not so much about giving. Under the law of Christ, true Christians even give MORE than 10% of their earnings, and their hearts always moves them to do so; that is why no compelling is needed, no threatening is needed, they give from their hearts and generously at that. But to exploit so-called divine intimidation is criminal and smacks of forbidding greed. The Levitical priesthood for which tithing came as a law has been set aside by the sacrificial death of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, whose death has validated the new covenant of which tithing is the law of tithing no longer hold. Generous giving yes, but not by compulsion. Whoever uses God threaten people in order to support his lascivious lifestyle is liable adverse divine judgement, Rev 21:8 2 Likes |

Nooil:Regarding what you think you might free to do: murder, immorality, same Paul warned against such practices: Read 1st Cor.6:9,10; Gal 5:19-21. Interestingly, there is no where ever, where he reiterated that the law nor even the law of tithing should be applied. Because he knew Christ is the end of the law: Romans 10:4 2 Likes |

Investnow2017: Tithing was an already known thing to do, which is why he spoke of the collection in such a manner as they already knew what to do. Other teachings like the fruits of the Holy Spirit, etc. have not been addressed before, which is why there was a need for it. |

gaius01: This is your own words; Why will you and your mum depend on charity or donations to buy recharge card? You depend on friends before you could recharge your phone as a proof of tithe blessings. Me that have never tithed in my life have never begged for recharge card from anyone. My wife and children have never begged recharge card from anyone. I have WiFi both at home and in the office. I am not saying that I am wealthy, but I make do with whatever I have without begging. 1 Like |

wirinet: Oga you are literally boosting here. you see the reason I made mention of that card is because I want to show how sincere I could be even with the little I have. why on earth will I be depending for airtime. a working class person like me. if I could pay my tithe with the little then there's no way I can't pay my tithe if I hit the main coins. you know what? let not exaggerate the whole matter. there's no way you can convince me that tithing is bad of what. what's have tested is better than what I haven't tested. so hold your qoute that you don't beg for airtime. I didn't beg neither I was given. what works for you is way different from what work for me. so hold your peace. shalom!! |

ComeToJesus: The bolded is where I have a problem with you. So because someone doesn't believe what you believe the person is automatically being used by satan? This clearly shows the level of your mentality. This is how the Catholic Church went on killing people whose only crime was to ensure that all could read the bible by translating it to English. They were called heretic and servants of satan. Don't be short sighted. Freeze is speaking what he believes. And you can't blame him. The church in Nigeria has failed. From sexual fetish, to money grabbing, to staged miracles and the likes all to bring in more people to their church. These acts by the church has drawn alot of people from God. With that being said, let me let you in on something. Do you know the Jews who God gave this commandment to don't pay tithes today? Those who pay at all give the money to charity. Tithes were meant to be given to the levites who had no personal belongings. They had no land, no properties nothing. Instead they were fed by all of Israel through tithes in the form of food(not money). And there were restrictions on how they also eat these tithes. And so you know the Jews had different types of tithes. Each with their own unique restrictions and some with none. See if you want to pay tithes, pay thats your headache. But to come here and start calling people who don't and don't believe in it agents of satan just shows how poorly you see things. But I am not surprised whenever the norms in Christiandom is challenged, they always call the challengers heretics and agents of satan. But it is the work of those heretics that you pick up everyday to read. That's if you even read your bible everyday. 2 Likes 1 Share |
