Some schools are conducting online examination, you can't pick a school that uses O'level since you said your O'level is on the average side. The form of unical is out, I don't know if it's closed though but they will conduct online examination.

So you think Jamb will be cancelled because of awaiting result candidates, it's not going to happen. Don't forget, some candidates have their results already and also Jamb also said universities should go ahead with admitting those who have their results already.
More than 50% doesn't have WAEC result and that's enough as an excuse, if only those candidates can protest for justice lol.

In short, the whole system is upside down. Solution is beyond local man's comprehension. Cancellation of JAMB 2020 would be a nightmare to WAEC result holders.

It seems impossible for this year's Jamb exams to be cancelled. There will be a compromise of some sorts.Either admission will be based only on the Utme results or Schools will conduct their own exams.

Admission criterion this year, should be centred on UTME score.

Permit me my people.
So Today I was talking to one of our Big bros today about the course medicine, he just laughed. He told me what about Dentistry and I laughed as well , saying it is just about teeth. He enlightened me a bit about Dentistry saying that it is a branch of medicine which some Dentist students will argue that they are more independent from medicine. Infact ehn, Dentistry is the only medical field that is independent from other fields controlled by Doctors. I was considering radiography, med lab, physiotherapy and many others as well. Funny thing is that there are, Radiologists,Pathologists, and Occupational medicine listed above. Think about this have you ever heard of Medical Doctots bossing Dentists here in Nigeria? Lai,lai grin grin. He has been practising Dentistry for the 6th year running;repairing lost tooth, chopped teeth, cleft lip, assited in Jaw reconstruction and even aligned teeth. He never went to strike one day Lai,lai. He laughs at Medical Doctors all the time for carrying cardboards protesting. Although he said there are few about 6 thousand here in Nigeria. He receives a pay cheque same as MD's.He is looking to enroll for post graduate studies for OMFS(Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery). He said he can as well go to study medicine again here in Nigeria for just 18months whereas MBBS will have to study Dentistry for 3 good years. He doesn't condemn Doctors at all only that they are churning graduates who will leave Naija soon or join in the protest. One of the lies people say is that Dentistry ain't challenging. Dentists have lives, Dentists have patient connections,Dentists are surgeons,Dentists can be cosmetologists,Ask Davido,Ronaldo,Kaka and some other notable Dem go gist you. I go change my course I swear ooo. I will post some pictures soon to tell you that Dentistry is fun and challenging. If you want to work with your hands this is for you. People say respect is different that Doctors are more respected but ask yourselves this question, Why does govt owe you salary? grin. Dentistry would have been like other fields like ENT,surgery,Family medicine as well as others. Let me tell you something and this is what he said and the truth based on research. Many Nigerians going abroad either become Family Medicine Doctors,ER doctors, Anesthesiologists(You must have a huge experience) few become surgeons, Radiologists or even oncologists/radiotherapy. You can be a surgeon there but e no easy. So prestige no dey feed bele ooo shey you know. No troll me and insult me abeg the truth is bitter but that is the truth. A doctor told me going to medicine for money no easy, you will be frustrated. I haven't even told you of the UK and USA health policy on how doctors are monitored all the time. Later then. Dentists are members of the NMA, so whenever Medical Doctors are on strike, Dentists are also on strike.. Dentistry is a branch of Medicine like you said, just like Opthalmology, O and G e.t.c...They only specialise earlier.

It doesn't still warrant cancelling the examination. What about those who have result, they will have to wait a year because they couldn't conduct Waec early?? and besides Waec is scheduled to hold September so by November, their results should be out.

Lol ooo, I did not say I will change to Dentistry oo. "I swear oo, I go change course ooo". I was just being sarcastic. I am not really interested in Dentistry ,although there is money in it. I typed this to bring awareness on studying Dentistry ,since it is tge only speciality in medicine you don't have to go through the rigorous time during residency. I am less social though. Hoping to get into Pathology or Radiology by God's grace.

Dentist are under NMA, if physicians are on strike dentist should also be observing the same strike and equally carrying placards.
Both dentist and medical doctor get the same strict monitoring in the UK and US infact it is easier to practice medicine in the UK or US as Nigeria graduate compared to a dentist who graduated from Nigeria medical school.

I hate it when I come here and see you guys always comparing dentistry to medicine and surgery and trying to pit doctors and aspirants in both fields against each other.

From your write up, you acknowledged that dentistry is a branch of medicine yet was still oblivious of the fact that they are called doctors too seeing the way you only used the term to refer to those who studied medicine and surgery. He receives a pay Cheque same as MDs? grin and doesn’t know that dentists go on strike too undecided.

We can convince aspirants to apply for either medicine and surgery or dentistry without bringing in unnecessary comparisons between both fields.

Since there is a place for constructive criticism, I'd be more than pleased to judiciously enlighten you on some of your schools of thought that you hold so loftily.

"...Infact ehn, Dentistry is the only medical field that is independent from other fields controlled by Doctors..."

To begin with, the equivalent of the MB;BS is the MD (Doctor of Medicine) and for BDS is the DDS(Doctor of Dental Surgery) or DMD(Doctor of Dental Medicine). This apparently means holders of either degrees; MBBS or BDS are Doctors. They are dependent on each other not independent of each other.

Say for example, a Dentist knows the treatment plan for an hypertensive patient, treating a patient for such is crossing his boundaries, that's why you have things called "referrals". The Dental Surgeon refers the Patient to a Physician (Cardiologist) as appropriate.

Same thing if a Patient presents for example with Lichen Planus infection, the Physician obviously knows it's out of his jurisdiction so he refers as appropriate to a Dental Surgeon (Oral Medicine/ Oral Pathology) for appropriate diagnosis and treatment.

Medicine doesn't look down on Dentistry and vice versa, most times you can't even distinguish between both classes in Medical School until 500L or thereabouts.

"...He never went to strike one day Lai,lai..."
This goes in three ways:
1. You're tripping on his Bullshit. A Dentist/Dental Surgeon is a Doctor, when ARD(Association of Resident Doctors) call for a strike, do they say only "Medical Doctors can go on strike", while exempting Dental Doctors?

How about the last MDCAN's(Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria) strike?

2. He is in private practice. If your Dentist friend practices privately, then, he has no business with any strike. Well, unless the association of Private Dental Practitioners decide they have some unmet needs (that would be an oddity anyways).

3. He is not a Dentist. There a lot of quacks and wannabes. He could be a Dental Nurse or Therapist who is just out to impress you.

"...He said he can as well go to study medicine again here in Nigeria for just 18months whereas MBBS will have to study Dentistry for 3 good years..."
I have not seen an official document stating the above as factual. However that a Physician has to spend 3 years in school to acquire the BDS does not mean Dentistry is tougher than Medicine.

During Preclinical years, while the Medicine guys do Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry and Community Medicine or Epidemiology, Dentists do all of that + Oral Biology/ +Dental Anatomy.

At the Clinical Phase, it's much different with lots of courses that the Medicine guys have no need for. Why waste your time learning stuff you have no use for? There's a reason why you don't call a Dental Surgeon (regardless of the Surgeon title) to come deliver a breech baby. He has no business there.

The very same thing applies when a Dentist applies to Medical school, he has done lots of the course work already, he just has to go through things like Obstetrics and Gynaecology etc.

So the 3 years vs 18 months thing is justified, it does not mean Dentistry is superior or that Medicine is cheap.

"...Dentists can be cosmetologists..."
In the purview of Medicine or Dentistry, there's nothing called Cosmetology.

According to Wikipedia, Cosmetology is the study and application of beauty treatment. Branches of specialty include hairstyling, skin care, cosmetics, manicures/pedicures, non-permanent hair removal such as waxing and sugaring, and permanent hair removal processes such as electrology and intense pulsed light.

Plastic Surgery, a more appropriate term, is a broad range of specialties that are aimed at the positive restoration of the human body. The two branches: Reconstructive and Cosmetic surgery.

Reconstructive
1. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
2. Orthopedic Surgery
3. Burns Reconstruction
4. Microvascular Surgery

Cosmetic surgery
1. Cosmetic Dentistry
2. Restorative Dentistry
3. Orthognathic Surgery
4. Aesthetic Surgery (Butt Augmentation, anything that ends with plasty: Phalloplasty, Rhinoplasty etc)

"...People say respect is different that Doctors are more respected but ask yourselves this question, Why does govt owe you salary?..."
Again Dentists are Doctors, Physicians are Doctors, Urologists are Doctors, Psychiatrists are Doctors, Radiologists are Doctors, Dermatologists are Doctors etc. Stop confusing yourself.

For the learned mind, Physicians and Dental Surgeons should be given equal reverence.

"...I haven't even told you of the UK and USA health policy on how doctors are monitored all the time. Later then. Just think am oo..."

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) is the sole accreditation body “responsible for regulating doctors and ensuring good medical practice.”

Perhaps the link below would drive home my point:

You've said it all ma'am.
I think the dude is quite insecure and still unsure of the path to chose...I sense fear of not being able to get Medicine.

Zeeknow3245, I think by this time, you should have been able to come to a concrete decision. This back and forth of yours would do you more harm than good.
If you're feeling uncertain about your chances, come out plain and people would help you get it right.

So many persons didn't get Medicine at the first trial...Being one of those persons isn't something to be ashamed about.

You've succeeded in mentioning all Health-related courses but still unsatisfied...

Pick one and be Firm.
Well I am happy there is life in this our thread again, just always talking of the monotonous thing of getting admission and that is the end. More topics abeg ehn. Controversy sometimes spark ou knowledge good thing I caused it grin grin
