I saw a thread in front page talking about the emerging e-sim cards. For those don't know what eSIM is. Let me share more light on it. The Embedded SIM (e-SIM) is the next step in the evolution of SIM cards. Unlike the physical SIM, you do not need to insert an eSIM into your phone as it is already built into your smartphone, device or wearable. You simply activate the eSIM with your account profile and you are ready to enjoy all the services you normally would with a physical SIM. Considering the benefits such as 1. e-SIMs allow you have more than one phone number associated to your smart device. They particularly useful for people who want to manage personal and business lines. 2. The possibility of losing or damaging your SIM is reduced because it is built into your device. 3. You no longer have to deal with cutting SIM cards or finding adapters. 4. It is extremely convenient for frequent travelers, making it easier to switch between network operators. I think the eSIM will do a great job in revolutionizing telecommunications. However most of the devices we use in Nigeria are not compatible with eSIM.

Can it reduce phone theft too? Tired of losing phones to pickpockets. |

DaCharis2016:Since the eSIM is non removable, it will definitely reduce phone theft since one can easily use it to track the phone. |

I’ve been using an eSIM for a while now, and it’s really convenient, especially for traveling. No more swapping SIM cards or worrying about losing them, and switching between different numbers or carriers is super easy. It also feels more secure since no one can just pull out your SIM if your phone gets stolen. The only downside is that not all phones support it yet, but hopefully, that changes soon. For international travel, services like eSIM Plus make a lot of sense. You get affordable mobile data without roaming fees, and the setup is really simple, which is perfect when you’re moving between countries. |

For me, eSIMs make life a lot easier, especially for people who travel or swap lines often. With eSIMs, No more looking for SIM ejector pins, or misplacing tiny SIM cards, and no more standing in airport queues just to buy a SIM. Everything happens digitally, which is the part I like the most. I’ve been using eSIMs for about a year now, and the experience has been smooth. Earlier this month, I tried the eSIM option on Cardtonic. I scanned the QR code, and it activated immediately. No card declined stress, no waiting, plus I paid in naira, which was very convenient. The only issue is that not all phones support it yet, especially older Android models. But if your phone does, it’s honestly a stress-free option. And for travelling, it saves you from a lot of wahala. So in all, I’d say eSIMs are a big upgrade from physical SIMs. Once you use it, you’ll understand why people are now going for Esim. |

Bfatolu16:I am starting to see changes in perspective on the e-sims. When i created this thread in 2020 people cared less and were less enthusiastic. |

I have been using esim for over 2yrs currently The best eSIM to use in Nigeria is MTN. Airtel and Glo are still struggling abit especially while swapping ur old phone with the esim to a new one. Mtn does it seamlessly on its own with just the QRcode but Airtel and Glo must have you reach their outlet for their worker(s) to reactivate it on the new phone. There is still a lot of room for improvement. In all they are all doing a great job. eSIM is the future ✅ |
