That's unlikely cos the IMEI on the phone box (Camon 15) must have been used to track it.
So how would the police have gotten access to the iPhones IMEI?

Exactly, na wetin i dey reason sef...
He could only have been tracked if he changed his imei to that of the camon 15...

Unless the police have a way of tracking the change in imei performed on the camon 15...

Good day everyone who finds this and I wish to get help as soon as possible as I will be very brief.

On the 20th of July 2020 I got arrested by Asaba State CID from Enugu state and immediately thrown into prison.

On my arrest, I was arrested with an iPhone 7 Plus, the police officers dialed my phone number and it rang on my iPhone. Then I was asked where is the camon 15 I stole on the 7th of July in Asaba. I told them I didn’t visit Asaba on 7th I showed prove. Then the IPO told me the stolen phone was tracked and my phone number appeared to have been inserted into the stolen phone on the 9th of July.

This is ridiculous as I informed the police of my status in the society and that since April I have not removed my sim from my phone.

I had to pay N185,000 as amount of phone and cost of tracking to be freed after paying N50,000 for bail.

I am writing this because I need help, I need an independent tracker as agreed between me and the IPO to unravel the mystery of how my phone number got linked with the IMEI.

Please any recommendation will be appreciated

Let's start with these questions

Did you buy the Iphone 7 used?

When did you buy it?

And what exactly do you want with the tracking result. I can't really furnish an opinion without knowing what exactly you wish to achieve.

Before then, switch off your phone and keep calling your number.

You might be surprised another phone will ring with some else picking the call.

We have had cases of two people using one phone number.

A colleague fell into such situation. An unknown third party was receiving his bank alerts because they were using the same phone number.

He lost some money in the process, sue and hot judgement.

I will do a thread on that soon.
yeah! I bought a Glo sim few months back, have been receiving alert there, and if i called someone using true caller with the Glo it will bring out the former owner's name.

Just imagine. You better go and lodge a complain at the nearest Glo office for your own safety before what happened to @OP or worse happens to you.

I will also advice you write officially to the bank, before you get fingered in an e-fraud case.

Have both Glo and the bank acknowledge your letter and keep your copies. It will save you loads of stress in the future.

With my understanding of how BTS and gls work I'll say they did track you.
The tracking tool isn't something you just get access to anyhow except there's a case reported against the phone number or imei and it costs money to use it.
Maybe the police or whosoever reported the case didn't have enough money to pay for the whole thing and the police only did the tracking meanwhile in a case of such investigations the call log, user activity and free time is gotten from the service provider legally or illegally through Kingfishers. After cross referencing they should know who the real culprit is without making such mistakes. If they did they would know the difference between a tecno IMEI and iphone, the time the sim was used in the tecno phone if at all it was when compared with that of your iPhone would give results that don't tally.
Lets just say a real investigation wasn't carried out, they just got a complaint that phone was stolen etc and most times people who report don't give the actual or truthfull info.
A freind contacted me last month that her dads phone was stolen and after all my enquiries she finally said it was at home and they didn't see it which is totally different case cos she isn't sure it was stolen, anybody could've mistakenly picked it.

People tweak IMEI and it could be one reason but I've never seen an issue with iPhone IMEI only low quality Android phones like tecno, infinix, itel, maybe someone used your sim and put in another phone or you were a target but either ways I'll strongly advice you get a lawyer and request for call logs and user activities on both IMEI and phone number of that of the tecno and iPhone.
If they don't provide tangible evidence that you are related to the case as a conspirator or the thief you sue them for negligence, defamation of character and all you can think of cause having your location and IMEI doesn't prove anything only the Analysis of all the data gotten from call log, BTS and user activities can prove anything.

I guess the person that stole the phone tweaked the IMEI of the phone.
Then the IPO told me the stolen phone was tracked and my phone number appeared to have been inserted into the stolen phone on the 9th of July.

Hope you read this,so how does this relate to IMEI tweaking? Fact is they didn't track anything.

Stay away from that IPO!

How can you just say "Move-On"?
By doing that, your suggestion is setting up another person for the same scam.
Our society is what it is because most of us are not willing to lift a finger to make things better..... and that involves sacrificing your time, energy and money in some cases.

He asked a very worrying question: How did his number got linked with an IMEI that was not his Phone?
If that is possible (l know IMEI can be changed/hacked by criminals but linking it to another phone that you dont have access to, is another level of criminality), if that is possible then all of us are at risk!

The IPO is certainly a criminal and could even be part of the gang extroting him but he needs to escalate the issue beyond the IPO, to State Commissioner or Federal level so that what transpired can be reviewed by Senior Officers and "hopefully", a not so corrupt one. undecided

Why collect 185K from him?
Why is Bail of 50K collected from him when it is supposed to be free, once he can provide Sureties?
Those who collected both monies are criminals, should be arrested and made to face the wrath of the law and his money refunded back to him.

I have NEVER PAID for Bail on anyones behalf, not to even mention myself (Lawyer or self recognition does it) and l will drag any Police Officer who demands such from me to free anyone l know, to the Pit of Hell. angry angry
Give than money to your Lawyer, instead of giving the Police for Bail. undecided

what if u destroy d sim

if you destroy a sim physically, your data and call logs is still with the telecommunication company.

Anonymous or trying to evade tracking is a myth..you can not..there is linking and digital footprints everywhere

even without a sim card on your phone and you connect to a wifi, you can still be tracked

There are very good police officer, you cant use the behaviour of rank and file to judge every police officer

Many police officers in officers cadre are lawyers and very professional

Also the police is also a means to have good connection if you want to succeed in Nigeria.

If you know, you know.

there is a way you number can be insected while tracking, I don't know much about it though but tracking isn't 100% guaranteed. The IPO might know it isn't you who did it but still made u pay. My advice, stay away from it all and pray for misfortune not to visit u again.
