LagosismyHome: LagosismyHome:Madam lagosismyhome, let me tell you that you are among the few people I respect the most on this platform. I have never contacted you directly but I am confident that you've made huge impact on so many lives here. I'm saying this to let you know that I would never comment on your space rudely. But then, Yoruba people say when a young fellow is cutting down a tree in the forest, the elderly usually know the direction in which the tree would fall. While the elderly were right with their predictions almost all the time, many atimes they don't tell the young fellow, that's because they believe they can't be right all the time. Time has a way of healing even the most hurtful occurrence or experience. When people hope and clamor for things and God didn't make it happen, they adjust. The present issue of opening of embassies is beyond any of us here. People go out in the US to perform their daily routines. We can't pray to remain under lock forever here. People that locked Nigerians up here have a way of traveling abroad when they want to. US government is moving their permanent residents and citizens to the US when there is need for that. At least a flight is scheduled for that tomorrow (check their website). The people they are moving to the US tomorrow would consist majorly of Nigerians that have secured permanent residence in the US and those that are already citizens. They are not afraid to catch COVID, and they would rather associate with the US. Even the COVID cases we are shouting in the US sef, it is becoming glaring that some figures are hyped. Check the attached picture here. CDC agreed they made mistakes in recorded cases. Initially reported 90k cases in Florida is coming down to 11k under scrutiny. See the margin! So, please ma'am we need encouragement from you. If we have the opportunity to get to the US this Fall, we shall take precautionary measures. We shall live. I personally understand your point of view, but hmm.. What is after number 6 is more than number 7 oo

sonofakin:This was outrightly uncalled for. She does mean no harm. I want to believe you're very new on this forum if not, you wouldn't have made such malicious comment. You're also quick to attack those in diaspora. The way many Nigerians that want to leave for this Fall think is not just ridiculous but rather pathetic. You derive pleasure in chastising those that have left and already studying abroad whenever they tell us the truth and what the reality is. The current situation is beyond our control and we must know that. Particularly, when they tell us not to be over ambitious, but be proactive and frugal in spending and in each stage of the process, we go about calling them names, attacking them like they invented the virus. Unsurprisingly, many Nigerians prefer being deceived and given false hope especially when the otherwise is highly probable. Little wonder the country itself is in this precarious state since independence. Just so you know, No Nigerian here is more willing to depart for this fall like myself. I'm 10times as desperate as anybody here. It's my 4th year in this hustle. I've once been denied without funding last time. Now with a full funding plus GA and an active SEVIS Fee that will expire in few weeks time, I ought to be more bias and subjective than yourself. Yet I'm not. Learn to see things logically and not with the church mentality. I'd advise us to hope things would turn around for our good for the Fall, but do not expect it will. Hopefully, everything dies down before spring. |

From your first paragraph, I'm very new to this forum and still I have a history of attacking people in the diaspora. Haba!!! Don't you think that is contradictory? Is this Facebook that I will even know who is in the diaspora and who is not? Schrodinger1: |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by sheke01: 8:25pm On Jul 22, 2020 |
Picricchem:Point of correction. CDC never agreed to any mistake. Main stream Republicans have gone past "denial" stage with respect to Covid. Even Trump has accepted that Covid will get much much worse. So pay no attention to Deanna Lorraine and her stupid theories and useless tweets. Anybody with a smart phone and data will tweet. let her come and explain why ICU beds have maxed out in most parts of Florida. We should learn to do more research and evaluate what we hear. Don't just accept anything you hear as the truth just because it aligns with your optimism |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Picricchem: 8:31pm On Jul 22, 2020 |
Schrodinger1:You have said it right brother. God bless you. But I don't think anyone needs to give majority of us any hope. If we can go through these up till now, I don't think we need anybody to give us any news from abroad or give us any false hope. Majority of us are not kids. Like you said, the reality is glaringly the opposite of our hope for this Fall. But we are still hopeful and e get why. I know how much I have spent on this hustle up to this point and I know what is at stake. So, I personally don't appreciate any words of discouragement or anyone telling me to throw my opinion away. But then, you have to say your mind in a respectful manner. Let us respect the opinion of those that are truly affected. If they hope, they have the right to hope. If it didn't happen, they've gat nothing to lose. I understand that cautious advice is necessary for newbies e.g don't pay SEVIS FEES until you secure an appointment, but telling them they are deceiving themselves or they are selfish, is not a good advice now. |

Schrodinger1:I think the whole argument was based on "Going to the US this period even if the embassy opens". Lagosismyhome is of the view that due to the number of COVID cases in the US, she found it strange that Nigerian students still want to go the US/UK. This has nothing to do with attacking those in the diaspora. A lot of them, if they are in our shoes would still be as hopeful as we are now. Alot of persons have things on the line and it's sounds inappropriate for those in the US here who are taking the necessary precautions from contracting COVID and doing fine, suddenly thinking you'd catch Corona if you risk coming to the US. Personally, I've accepted that embassy won't open since early June and I'm working around it. I have a friend that has a full tuition scholarship, whose school doesn't have an exclusive online class and scholarship can't be deferred to spring. So you think it's sensible to advise the person not to hope? |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Picricchem: 8:35pm On Jul 22, 2020 |
sheke01:I agree with you sir. CDC did not come out to agree with that but there is an element of truth in what she said. |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Friedpotato: 8:36pm On Jul 22, 2020 |
Picricchem:God will bless you my brother. Na everybody know wetin e don do to reach this point. I know how much I borrow for one process or the other to get what I want. You can't just dismiss it as if it's not important because you're not in their shoes. Let those that want to hope, hope. |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by Friedpotato: 8:39pm On Jul 22, 2020 |
sheke01:Lol. Anyone closely following the whole Coronavirus hullabaloo in the US would know never to trust Trump's personal people. |

Picricchem:I recently decided not to argue much on this thread but I must say this. There's no element of truth is what she tweeted. It's simply a political stunt. She wants to contest Nancy Pelosi seat in November election. Go to her tweeter page, all she tweets about is left this and left that. Measuring instruments all have margin of error but an almost 80000 margin of error is ridiculous. So sad someone will even imagine CDC will erroneously do such. Same thing they said about New York cases. New York solved their problem and everyone forgot their theories. Florida is the new epicenter and the theories is coming back again. Nawa o |

Mehn, some schools are wicked. So those whose whose schools guaranteed their scholarship if they deferred for one year should be grateful? Hard as it may be, one just has to wait. Friedpotato: |

Aderin0la:I assure you, slimmy2005 is just joking around, don't judge him based Ina few comments. The energy in the thread in at an all time low. It is beginning to feel as tho everyone here is in mourning. In March 30th when the US had a mere140k cases, I had predicted (based on actual experience) in this thread that that embassy won't open for fall 2020. Everyone on scholarship should find a way to defer or if you can start online course while being unpaid, you can do that too. If you feel your case is bad, think about Nigerians who are graduating this year into this current US economy. Try to make peace with yourself. On another note, sometimes I began to wonder when my kids are older and they say "daddy, tell us about 2020." How will I answer that question? I don't know how I will answer d question but I know that Firstly, I will take a deep sigh, then I will laugh, n then I will cry. 2020 sure left us all with mixed emotions. |

Hi guys, just some contribution, although I have made up my mind to stick to my PhD here in France while I am yet to reject my PhD offer at University of Hawai'i, one of the reason I won't be going to the US is the Covid-19 brouhaha, I still talk to my supervisor and he is not sure if embassy will even open for spring 2021 talk more fall 2020, we still talked this morning and he was saying if it may need, he will need to talk to the funding society ACS to push my PhD to fall 2021 can you imagine, lol although I won't be going to the US anyway, I am not that desperate, so I will stick to my PhD here in France. So. What I want to conclude from this is that, try looking for something to keep you busy because the embassy is not going to open anytime soon not for Nigeria with the way our government is playing politics with Covid-19, EU ban Americans for now, while Americans did same, so I believe US will replicate same to African country if they manage to beat their curve down. Stay blessed guys |
