With the level of this pandemic, bats and pangolins are still eaten by the Chinese, though restriction is ongoing to stop eating of these animals.

There has been a great call for everyone to go on a plant-based diet. It's healthier.

Of Course a pandemic is not going to stop people who don't care from doing what they want. There will always be a next pandemic... the goal is to stop them but because we still have the ignorant living among us, that might never really be realized.

Now back to saving rats because of cats. So, your friend seems to have established for you an economic reason to spare all rats(not in Nigeria it seems). So, have you been able to establish the need for cats to go on the disease-carrying pests list? undecided

Economic importance of rats (let me indulge your laziness for once)

They make delightful, charming pets, and in the wild they take human refuse and turn it into nice tidy biodegradable rat-shit.

They are a major food source for animals we value highly, such as pine martens and birds of prey. They keep down wood mice, who are substantially more destructive than rats. And because they are genetically and behaviourally quite close to humans, they make excellent experimental animals.

Giant African pouched rats are extremely useful, because their sense of smell is comparable to a dog’s but they are much smaller and cheaper, while at the same time living much longer than our ordinary brown rats, so it’s worthwhile spending six months training them.

They are used to identify hidden landmines in war zones, because they are so light they can walk across the mine without triggering it, and then indicate to their trainer where it is, in return for treats.

They’ve also been trained to sniff their way along a row of human saliva samples and then indicate which ones are infected with TB.

African giant rats are trained by the Belgian company, to detect land mines and tuberculosis in humans. Rats are kept by many people as pets and are highly trainable, and they have been used in scientific research for years, to study behavior as well as medicine.

Use this link to learn how to train your rats rather than killing them

I knew rats to be very intelligent animals but I didn't know they could do so much for us. Thank you! This was very educative. smiley

First of all, I doubt if you live in a high brow estate. If you did, you must have heard of something called soundproof, where you'll never hear of anything going on in your neighbor's house.

"Rich people live in houses with “real” bricks and nothing gets through. The doors actually seal.

More expensive houses have enhanced noise mitigation.
More expensive doors, sound barrier secondary glazing system on windows, insulation and methods of construction that transmit little or no sound."

You come from a low-class divide. Stop trying to sound like what you're not.

Laughable!

I opened this account since 2009 and since then i have done absolutely everything to remain anonymous on this forum and even though i am tempted to break that anonymity i won't do that because of a mere charade from you.

First of all i never mentioned i was rich.. secondly in your sheer ignorance and quest to sound intelligent and vast but ended up sounding empty and brazenly half-witted you forgot that not every estate has the same style and concept when it comes to infrastructure.
While some estate developers will build structures to improve noise reduction others may opt for the opposite for security reasons in the sense that residents can be at alert of an emergency situation unfolding in their immediate neighborhood so as to alert the security details of the estate for immediate response.

My dear i live in an estate in Abuja in a self rented duplex. My favorite spot is the front porch upstairs where i come out to take some fresh air mostly at the wee hours of the mornings from 4am-till about 5am before i sleep till 10 am. I am a self-employed freelancer so don't go to work outside. Don't get me wrong, i have lived in the suburbs in the past so it's not like i was born with a golden or even silver spoon.

Now during those hours on the front porch, i can hear the sound of anything within 3 square kilometres from the chirping of crickets to the honking of vehicles of commuters who want to catch an early day at work for those who work in the outskirts of Abuja to even the chiming of the bell of a catholic church way off outside the estate before the recitals of what i later got to know was their "angelus".

Never did i once hear anyone shout or yell in prayer nor any wannabe Benny Hinn with loud public address speakers disturbing the neighborhood with threats about people going to hell like they do in the slum where you live because stuff like that usually happens during such hours.

So think harder next time you want to defend your ignorance about how people live in estates and when you try to bring others down to the level of your squalor.

Thanks for your time! smiley smiley

In case you have memory problems, let me remind you that I mentioned people who live in mansions. Then you brought your high brow estate.

Uncle, if your landlord is charging you 5 million per annum for something that is meant to be 300,000 its your fault only. It doesn't mean you live in a high brow estate.

You don't want to break anonymity but you're already mentioning high brow, self-rented duplex, etc. Niggar, get outta here!

Ps: I don't try to sound intelligent. I am intelligent. Unlike poverty-stricken people trying to claim who they are not.

I would be a liar if I type that I didn't expect this reaction from you. That's what all weak guys resort to, insults.

Frustrations? Lol. I can't be frustrated when I have so much to live for, realistically. I don't build castles in the air, unlike you.

Go and work and stop claiming to be what you're not. From living in a high brow estate to not claiming you're rich. Maybe it's poor people or middle class that live in high brow estates. Or perhaps you don't even know what it means.

And yes, while at it, be more tolerant of people's religion. We are tired of using public funds to rehabilitate boko harams and other religious intolerant groups. So please, play your part and make Nigeria great again.

Are you surprised to know people still have much to live for? Lol. Not everyone is surrounded by poverty, darkness, and gloom like you.

First, he says some landlords might have a reason for not installing soundproof in a high brow area. If you had an inkling of the meaning of high brow, you won't make such a statement. But no, you decided to show the world your ignorance.

You're clearly lower than the low-class divide I once thought you belonged to. I mean, your reasoning is also low.

Now I should respect your opinion? What opinion if I may ask? Please like I wrote, we have better use of our public funds. Curtail your intolerance before it becomes a threat to society.

This is my last reply to you.

With the bolded statement it is now confirmed that I am actually talking to a low class poverty stricken nonentity cheesy cheesy

Where in my comments did I say LANDLORDS installed soundproof in their structures?

Let me educate you abit though I know you can never comprehend it because of you have been eternally sentenced to remain poor and wretched for the rest of your miserable life...

Developers of an estate are the ones who are responsible for the structural edifices and components/fittings that are found on every builing in that particular estate.

All buildings come with a uniform plan which a prospective landlord must follow while building the unit(s) of his own structure which the estate management will inspect before the said landlord can lease the structure out which still falls within the power of the estate management.

You think it is that slum where "bacha" owners build with sticks and planks anyhow to your poor taste in the area you live in? undecided undecided

Stop embarrassing yourself on a public forum with these shameful rants. It is really embarrassing because like i said before the more you try to sound intelligent the more st*pid you sound!

Concentrate on yelling to God every midnight for your daily meals like you have always done and will always do and stop sounding like a m*ron!

And if you reply me again then you are a big scallywag as i know you really are. grin grin grin

I'm posting this for the sake of anyone that will come across this thread and see a mentally unstable fellow by the moniker Decryptor disgracing his ancestors and generation.

Soundproofing is not required building code for rented apartments. It is not required. But when you're doing something for the highbrows, luxury is the name of the game.

Learn about noise pollution control in Nigeria. If you're outside the country, US, UK, and so on, I'm sure you already know that it is a law (building codes) in some jurisdictions to soundproof your house/building. Yes, the govt has this right, not the estate developer or whoever this psychopath has been mentioning. The only visit you'll be receiving if you don't obey soundproof orders is from a building inspector employed by the govt.

Now, a real estate developer will build an estate for elites (high brows), sophisticated people, and allow the walls to have ears. What elite will agree to live in such a place?

I don't know how someone can be depressingly stupid (at least some people are alarmingly stupid), and be proud of it.

For some reason, he thinks an estate developer will be against soundproofing because of security reasons when noise is a security issue as well as a health concern.

Please stay away from poverty broke ass niggars like decryptor. He will definitely die in poverty.

This is the slowpoke's comment. For some reason, a real estate developer will sacrifice the peace and quiet of the houses in the estate because of some so-called emergency situation.

There are no other technologies available to alert residents in case of an "emergency situation". They'll have to sacrifice the health concerns and privacy of the residents of a high brow area.

What a demented fellow!

People like him are the reason why buildings collapse in Nigeria, because of his archaic and poverty mentality.

Hey! I read the comments between you and decryptor. The guy is right. There is no estate i know of which will be prone to so much noise such as massive vehicular movements, loud blaring of music, gasoline generators, loud honking of vehicle horns etc. These things mentioned rarely occur in estates but are a norm in middle-class areas and low-income areas.
I remember when i visited a relative in an estate in Port Harcourt. You could barely hear any noise only for the periodic passing of vehicles in space of so many minutes. Everywhere was so damn quiet that you would think people left their houses and ran away.
If there is a case of noise being a health concern to any person living in the estate they can decide to buy the place personally and put soundproof to their taste.

When Decryptor mentioned me, I thought he wanted to refute my claim about the soundproofing laws but this is different.

The reason why I asked skales67 to read from the beginning of the convo is because he seemed to miss out on somethings.

Now, I never referred to external noise in any of my writeup like massive vehicle movements, etc. because I know estates in Nigeria are always in an enclosed area, not along the road like some buildings. It was all about the neighbors. Decryptor was wailing about prayers.

An example is when our neighbor bought a trumpet for his young son and he started learning it. You can imagine what happened. The noise. But I live in an estate, just like the one skales described, not a highbrow estate.

But Decryptor wrote that he doesn't just live in estate, but a highbrow estate, which is why I mentioned the soundproofing stuff.

The word highbrow means something of exquisite taste. It's rare not regular. It shows sophistication.

Why is he agreeing with someone who mentioned only estate?

Let's see the difference in their post.

skales67:

There is no estate i know. These things mentioned rarely occur in estates but are a norm in middle-class areas and low-income areas.
I remember when i visited a relative in an estate in Port Harcourt.

This is skales67, and I appreciate he included he knows, which shows he understands he has limited knowledge. You can't know it all.

Decryptor:

Big Lie!

I live in a high-brow estate in Abuja and have acquaintances who live in big estates too.

This is decryptor's post.

Can we all notice the qualifying adjective, highbrow being used? And this was the bone of contention.

And so I find it strange why decryptor is agreeing with him.

Has he forgotten he lives in a highbrow estate? Can't he see skales mentioned only estate? There is no highbrow attached to it.

I'm sure decryptor saw it. But like a drowning man, he chose to clutch at a straw.

For those who will still not understand, let's consider this example,

There are five boys in the classroom

There are five handsome boys in the classroom

Can you see how the word handsome changes the sentence?

That's how Decryptor's highbrow estate is different from the regular estate and that's why I expect each house should have a soundproof.

The question now is where does decryptor really live?
