I can see 127mm, I can see dardo 40mm ciws, I can see aspire and the anti ship missiles.

What's the logic behind retrofitting this vessel with $250m whereas we could get a nice new russian frigate at the same price

How much are Russian frigates ? We use western radar, FCS....., even the Chinese opv we bought were installed with western sensors ; or Chinese sensors based on western technology.

If our aradu , can be brought back to life and upgraded to challenge other warships in Africa, for extra 15 to 20 years, then I will say we upgrade....because I really don't think we can afford a brand new frigate, especially with our economy and expenditure and the loans we keep collecting.

Honestly !
We could get good CORVETTES/ CLASS CUTTERS for such more cheaper rate less than $250m.
Will just need to pay up in tranches.

That quotation is likely inflated. It'd take less than a $100m to make this ship fight again.

The only issue I seem to have is the useful life remaining

I agree with you. A brand new frigate or frigates is not coming soon. A good competitive tender and we can give this ship a fighters robe for significantly less than the $250m quotation bandied about.

Whatever cost we are willing to pay, it's best we give it to the original builder to upgrade, or a competent German ship building firm, that builds this size and quality of vessels, going through the German government, or else we would waste money just like our FACs.

I'm sure we can still get 20 years from aradu....aradu hasn't really flogged water, it's just the limit of our technical expertise when we bought aradu, that killed her.

RE: REPORT OF ATTACK ON THE CONVOY OF BORNO STATE GOVERNOR

1. The convoy of the Executive Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Gana Zulum came under Boko Haram Terrorists fire while visiting Baga Town on the 29th of July 2020. The Executive Governor had earlier paid a visit to the Commander, 19 Brigade at the Nigerian Army Super Camp Baga where he was fully briefed about the prevailing security situation in the general area. The unfortunate incident occurred shortly after the Governor and his entourage departed the Super Camp to visit other parts of Baga town. The incident forced the Governor to abort his planned movement to Baga.

2. Although, details of the unfortunate incident is sketchy and under investigation, efforts are ongoing to comb the area where the incident occurred with a view to track down and deal decisively with the attackers. An investigation is also in progress to identify the circumstances that led to the attack.

3. Regretably, this is an isolated and most unfortunate incident that occurred in a territory where normalcy has since been restored with socio-economic activities picking up. The Nigerian Army wants to reassure the general public that this will be interrogated with a view to forestalling future re-occurance.

4. Additionally, Nigerian Army wishes to inform the general public that it will continue to discharge its responsibilities professionally with respect for the fundamental human rights of all Nigerians and in compliance with the extant rules of engagement. The good people of Baga town and indeed the entire Borno State are enjoined to continue to provide credible information that will assist the security agencies to successfully combat terrorism as well as apprehend and flush out the perpetrators of the attack.

Some parts of Baga town is still controlled by
ISWAP.

Zulum just wan go kill himself cool

In late 2018 when Baga was overun. The Federal Government/Military lied that they took over in January 2019, but that was a big lie as ISWAP controlled Baga and imposed tax on Fishermen throughout 2019.

Infact at a time the military went back to Baga camp. The Military could not enter Baga for a long time. They begin share area like Black**Axe and Vikings as everyone should not cross his demarcated boundary in Baga.

Baga fish market is not what ISWAP will want to lose at all. Money dey roll there wink

The Airforce needs to really use air surveillance to monitor and bombard most of the Islands there like Doron Naira wink

The Government is not truthful about this war just imagine a Governor's convoy attacked inside a main town.

I pity Zulum shaaaa he is becoming frustrated as he has high regards for the welfare of his people.

If you read some of the stories on the internal wranglings of ISWAP posted here the tax imposed on fishermen or even farmers is Baga

Definitely they both had unsettled issues, not from the psychological part at all !
The accused said:” he has accomplished his mission and shot him at the back six times.

1st picture is the officer and 2nd was the alleged NCO who killed him.
These NCOs are very volatile.. infact commissioned officers don't just mess with any of them anyhow. Once they start grumbling or complaining, do yourself a favor by petting them else na you go tire..

I know that you don't keep those systems idle for so long. I know that stocks of missiles expire and must be decommissioned. I know that the NN has not had missile test firings in more than 20 years.

Boko Haram controlling parts of Baga?. How completely redundant this information. Many gangs are controlling many parts of many cities the world over. Is that really control?.
We know Boko Haram can sneak in to commit havoc and melt away but does that really equal 'control'?.
I don't know.
I think Boko Haram sympathizers are many within the NA and feed some cells within the group with information. Based on the info, those cells can organize to carry out actions to awe weak minded people.
All these don't equal control.

The Borno Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Aliyu, on Thursday confirmed the death of one person with 16 others injured following three explosions in Maiduguri metropolis.
Aliyu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the explosions occurred in Mairi, Custom and Gwange areas of the metropolis.
Aliyu said that the actual cause of the explosions was yet to be ascertained, but Police teams had been dispatched to the areas.
He said: “We have dispatched our Explosive Ordinance Detection (EOD) to investigate the incidents and to determine whether it was an Improvised Explossive Device(IED).
“Right now, I am at the Specialist Hospital where we have 16 casualties and one dead so far.”
NAN reports that the echoes from the loud explosions sent many residents scampering for safety.
Security personnel comprising the Army, Police, Rapid Response Squad, Civilian Joint Tast Force(CJTF) and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were seen rushing to the scene to restore normalcy.

What is with you guys trying to defend the indefensible? Is the governor also lying as well? Prof Zulum trusted the army too before he saw things for himself. The terrorists are known to collect taxes in and around Baga fish market which is only few kilometres from army base.

They also posted pictures from Baga during last Ramadan.

The battlefront is really very complicated. This war has become an endless merry go round of attack, repel, ambush, executions, internal problems, etc. May God help us.
