Ononuju Asks Amaechi To Resign Over Deal Conceding Nigeria Sovereignty To China by BleedingPen(op): 3:28pm On Jul 31, 2020
Dr. Katchi Ononuju, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party and Director General of the Heritage Centre, Abuja, has called on the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi to immediately resign.

Ononuju made the call on Friday when he appeared on a programme monitored by Igbere TV on the African Independent Television (AIT) network, in Abuja.

The call for Amaechi’s resignation comes following the revelation by the House of Representatives that Nigeria risks losing sovereignty to China over a clause in the Agreement of a 2018 Chinese loan taken by the federal government.

The transportation minister had defended the loan, asking the Nigerian parliament to stop the probe into the loans, else, the Chinese government may withdraw the offer.

On AIT, however, Dr. Ononuju accused Amaechi of “perpetrating a fraud” with Chinese loans under the guise of securing funds for Nigeria's railway projects, Igbere TV reports.

He accused Amaechi of entering into agreement with the Chinese government, writing documents in Chinese language and deliberately withholding the information from Nigeria.

“I have it on good authority that the Chinese authority are targeting the NLNG(Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas). That's what they want”, he alleged.

The PDP chieftain insisted “Amaechi wants to sell Nigeria to China. For how much? $400m? The same $400m Buhari got back from the Abacha loot?

“My party, the PDP will never allow this to happen. We did business with the Chinese government and we never wrote an agreement to give away our sovereignty.

“This clause was hidden, there were no prints that were actually written in English. It was when we took the papers to interpret that we now discovered that somewhere, somehow, the government signed off Nigeria to give our sovereignty to China.

“The Chinese government are planning to take over our NLNG, that is what it is. They will not touch our military, or diplomatic assets but the NLNG,” he alleged.

Throughout his party’s 16 years misrule with huge crude oil earnings and foreign loans, what infrastructural developments can they boast of that can rival what Amechi has achieved in under 5 years with lesser revenues?

Bode George actually has a point; these Chinese claim to be very smart when doing business, they don’t love us but they are here for what they can gain; it’s better we take our time with them than to enter into something which we can’t recover from.

What gain has the country made since it was handled by Nigerians?

So much stupidity in this country. One person cannot sell a country, you can however leverage your assets to secure loans. It is done with IMF loans, private loans such as the one with China is not unique. Sovereignity in the contract refers to the country(Nigeria) not able to use it's status as a sovereign nation to get out of paying its debts. It simply means if the government refuses to pay, China will come for their money!
Re: Ononuju Asks Amaechi To Resign Over Deal Conceding Nigeria Sovereignty To China by SmartPolician:
I was even defending the deal until I saw a video where Amaechi explained the controversial clause.

While I thought that the deal said that the Chinese should go after the project done with the loan, the deal, according to the minister, says that they can grab any national asset of their choice.

Only God knows what these idiots have been signing behind our backs until the house of reps exposed this clause. Nigerian government is not known to repay loans.

No doubt, Nigeria is technically finished

Added

From Mr Ossai's explanation, they initially hid the clause from the national assembly

And Amaechi didn't thoroughly read the voluminous agreement before signing the deal. He said that he just got to learn about it.

Amaechi doesn't have a problem with the fact that they can grab any asset of their choice. Instead, he is saying what the Chinese usually does. The deal ought to specify what they should go after if Nigeria defaults.

If the Chinese can grab any asset of their choice without Nigeria's approval, then we have truly given them our sovereignty
