CHAPTER THIRTY SIX

Bari's heart beat loudly against her chest as Daniel held her hand while they strolled down the street, to Daniel's house. She still felt like the old times, even though it had been a while. She had suggested announcing Daniel's arrival, on TV and Radio stations, the news spread like wildfire as people trooped into Daniel's house to see for themselves.


"A penny for your thought?" Daniel spoke up, making Bari jolt.


"Nothing, am just surprised at how everything turned out. I thought you were really dead, i thought i was not going to see you again, but here you are, holding my hand and walking with me" she smiled.


"I kept on asking Paulina if i had friends and family, she said no. She constantly lied to me over and over again" he sighed.


"I wonder how a lady could be so desperate to get a man, she risked your life. Staging that accident was just so risky, what if you had died? and the young man she killed in place of you? she shed blood all because of her stupid obsession" she shook her head in disbelief.


"Am just glad she has been caught, together with her accomplice" They got to his house, he opened the gate and they stepped in.


"Accomplice? she had an accomplice?" she asked, raising her brows in surprise.


"Yes, one Rowland whatever" Daniel replied, unlocking the door to his flat.


"Rowland? what? I do hope it is not the Rowland i know?" she yelled.


"you know him?"


"Yes. He is my ex, he has been begging to have me back and i kept on turning him down" she sat on the sofa, as soon as they entered the living room, Daniel joined.


"It makes sense now" Daniel said thoughtfully.


"I never knew Rowland could be this callous" she spat out.


"Tell me about yourself, everything, don't leave anything out" Daniel said, out of the blue.


"You already know everything about me, there is nothing more to tell"


"You told the other Daniel and not this new Daniel. So, tell me everything" he urged on.


"Am a tailor, am 28, i have a daughter" she recounted.


"You have a daughter? am i the father?" he asked, cutting her short.


"No, you are not, but you were okay with it, then, i don't know about now though" she bent her head sadly.


"Now, don't be sad. I was okay with it, then and am also okay with it now. Listen to me Bari, nothing has changed, I might not have my memories but am still going to love you the same. While i was with Paulina, even though she introduced herself to me as my wife, i didn't have any feelings for her and each night she tried to force me to make love to her, i don't know but i couldn't always bring myself to do it. It was as if something held me back. The moment i saw you at that hotel, i felt nothing but Peace, i felt a calmness i didn't feel while in Paulina's house. I love you, Bari and i can't wait to get the memories of you and i back" he took her face up and stared into her eyes.


"I love you too, Daniel" she muttered. He slowly bent down and kissed her, she opened her lips and kissed him back vigorously.


"Please be mine, forever. I promise to always be here with you" he whispered into her ears.


"Okay" she nodded her head.


"Have you met my mom before?, she couldn't stop talking about you the day i went to visit her?" he asked.


"Yes, i met her at your funeral, we didn't really talk much though" she shrugged.


"Okay babe, you really need to get used to this, it wasn't my funeral, am alive and healthy" he chuckled.


"Oh yeah, it wasn't your funeral" she chuckled too.


"I love you babe" Daniel whispered.


"I love you too" Bari shouted.
