That's a very good Nigerian but it seems that type of person is getting very scarce in this country now.

I have met honest people in Nigeria too, with even a more convincing test.

I was in computer village, ikeja Lagos state to fix my phone's screen that broke. It was on a Thursday and all shops were meant to be closed due to lockdown restrictions.
Just like you know, some of them will surely still be by the roadside to hustle for customers. I was there explaining to the technician that want to fix my phone, when a car pulled over and the driver stretched out his hand and handed over his phone, (an iPhone for that matter) to the same guy to help add screen protector and a silicone case.
He paid right there and told the guy he is in a hurry to pick up someone at the airport that he would collect it when he his returning. He dropped his contact card and didn't even bother to collect the guys contact before he drove off.

Everyone was surprised including the guy, because he has never met the man before and there was no traceable location because everywhere was locked.

I think it's better you thank your star that you met a good Zimbabwean.
Just like I use to pray to always encounter good Nigerians

I saw better nigeria.
Our people were honest people.

It was our leaders that led the country astray.
Particularly the generals.
They were more concern about stealing billions.

The problem with Nigeria is illiteracy and stupidity 95% of Nigerians cannot tink more than one month in advance

Mr. Literate thanks for the compliment oh. At least its not everyday people question my literacy.

The problem with nigeria is people like you, who think they know all when infact they know nothing. You are you corruption free ? or you think you are corrupt only when you take and receive bribe ?

Lol this doesn't really mean anything though
See it this way..

There are two boys from different families, both didnt have thier parents around all thr time...

Both boys were taught well and disciplined well by thier parents... one boy started following bad gangs, smoking stealing, the other boy still behaved well....

Point here is the problem is from the parents for not being around to monitor both boys....

One turned out good but the other bad.....

In essence two of them cant turn out the same, because humans react differently to situations....

In essence the problem is from the parents....

What i mean is the problem is still from nigerian government

Wow.

Tbh, we need to change in Nigeria. We have values issue. This started in the 80's and we just keep going down since then. I'll trust American Atheists or unbelievers more than many Nigerian GO's, prophets or Papas. Nobody can use collar or suit to swoop away my soup any longer. This article is not trying to say Zimbabweans are perfect but it's very very hard to find a few people you can trust in Nigeria.

I still believe we need a mix of democracy and military to re-integrate values into our culture.

Some Nigerians. I,am not a criminal. I can never scam anybody. I can never steal what does not belong to me

I have hear this from a lot of us but at the end of the day you can go and vote for a criminal. When I was in UK America and Switzerland Nigerian community was telling Nigeria that they have no choice they most vote for a Nigerian criminal even if it means he cannot do anything for them but they must vote for themselves. At this criminal mentality. Just look what happened to Germany Nigerian community about 10 years ago everybody told them the person which they wanted to vote his hands are not clean his brother was in jail in South Africa his junior brother was in jail in Egypt he was already being investigated for money laundering 78% of Nigerians in Germany went to vote for him as the head of Nigerian community. today the man is in prison what does that mean 78% of Nigerians in Germany are criminals. It is only a criminal which vote for a criminal. I have seen a lot of good Nigerians all over the world but because of their stupidity and illiterate the end of voting for criminals and putting criminals to lead them even Nigerians in America and Canada are no exception

Even though you probably have a good motive for sharing this story of yours, you didn't do well by ending with "Bad people are everywhere likewise good people"...THAT IS NOT THE POINT HERE MR, IT IS A CLEAR FACT THAT GENERALLY NIGERIANS HAVE A CRIMINAL/CORRUPT WAY OF THINKING AND BAD REPUTATION. And believe me, it's also a clear fact that among other African countries, we are usually the ones foreigners have told themselves to be wary of.

When I worked with a company few years back, we had a business deal with a company in Finland, they clearly said when doing business with Nigerians, they have to take extra precautionary measures because of our history. They made every process much much difficult because why? We were Nigerians!

We should stop blaming the government please and work on ourselves as civilians, as a people, as a person.

If this is true about Zimbabwe populace, then how did there government officials become corrupt? Or, is it that they take their leaders from other countries?
And I am surprised you said their police is disciplined. This is not consistent from what we have been seeing from many media houses sin the later years of Mugabe till now.
You would not very wise to trust a complete stranger with such responsibility anywhere in the world! You were just foolishly desperate!!

We have a bad image and we all are aware.
But what we all most times fail to realise is that it is that most times people like you try to think and postulate that the people can change without the leaders or the government.

Y do some of us blame the Government?
The Government help to set the time and standard for what is right and wrong,
* what is right is reward, applauded and celebrated such that everyone believes in doing what is right
* What is wrong is purnish and disgraced
Laws are made to help people see this things clearly and to appreciate the impact of this actions by the leadership. Slowly slowly everyone begins to be in alignment of the law. Crime rates will certainly drop .

But what do we have?
A country whose leaders treat the followers lesser than humans and the mad rush for money continue to increase because of the power, authority and strength that those who possess it displays.
Where the offenders dine with leaders and leaders are more criminal than the man behind bars.
Doing wrong is getting been celebrated and the right man is called a fool even by his own household.
Citizens get crooked by the day because they can not beat them but would rather join them.

Tell me how can ur personal and individual self solve.all this problem without the instrumentality of leadership with it's authority!

You say the people as though God created us differently?
Or
Do you want to accuse our culture to have made us this way?
I do not agree God or the culture did this to us but the continuous beat of the effect of bad leadership.
When I was growing I know how people who sell in my village leave their wares outside and even attend occasions in the nearby villages yet people will buy bread and keep the money under the trail of bread even sometimes serve themselves with the change or come get it later.
This was in the 80's and 90's
But
Today in the same village you lock your door and they will burggle it to steal from inside.

Some of you even accused the Church not knowing that it was the church that help avert mass suicide because of the right and wrong prophecies that continue to give people hope and hope is a very necessary ingredients for a hopeless situation like this that we have here.

I can go on and on but I rest my case
I rest my case

Nigeria can never have good leadership in 1 million years. The reason for this the people are illiterate but they will be fooling themselves that they know. Our problem is more of illiteracy you cannot truth seed on hard rock and expect it to do well. In Europe and America Nigerians know what is right they will never do it they will tell you they have to support a criminal
Re: Honesty and Contentment: My Experience In Zimbabwe. by Shattuck(m): 6:30pm On Aug 18, 2020
SUFFERInSMILIIN:

That is the problem we have been making in Nigeria from beginning it is not leadership the Citizens are illiterate the only think Nigerians know how to do is vote for a criminal and destroy. So it has nothing to really do with the leadership. Nigerians the UK and America will tell you a Nigerian can do nothing but they have to vote for their own Nigerian criminal this is in developed countries what Nigerians will be telling you. Even Nigerian children which are fun day at the same if you put us on the moon with Nigerians will end up voteing on a criminal. Do you know how many times are brought in developed countries I have here to Nigeria cedis we Nigerians can achieve nothing but we have to make noise.
I know the masses hold a major blame in Nigeria's failure but illiteracy and poverty are two major areas the govt use to oppress the masses and make them always vote for them, illiteracy and poverty is high in Nigeria as a result of govt failure too. I agree with you that the people need to step up and do more about their attitude.

We missed it right from the era of the military dominated by the north who never believed one could save for the raining day. Corruption was the order of the day. Their culture and religious believe never permitted them to prepare for a better future. Once they have access to money today, they could squander everything today and tomorrow say, would take care if itself, forgetting that God is God of plan, process, organisation and time. Those who couldn't put up with them but wanted to also live large like the family of the military and the lay of the elites hobnobbing with them, would do anyrhing doable to corrupt themselves and the vices go on and on. Banangida made it worse by institutionalising corruption in Nigeria. All those who destroyed Nigeria will never go unponished. together we can retire them politically

A woman I met online, ones gave me money for Dubai visa and ticket for three people, which I delivered. Till today, we have not seen each other and when she was in Dubai for a week, we couldn't see because I was busy then. Nigerians can do more than that. No big deal on that.

Every country has the good, the bad and the ugly...This dude is simply lucky that he dealt with the good, a good Zimbabwean.

My point is:
Don't be too quick to judge all Nigerians. With the bad system, retardeddd leaders and unbearable poverty level in the country, there are still a few incredible Nigerians, who respect themselves, respect the laws and uphold a solid integrity.
Yes, without a doubt, there is a big room for each and everyone of us to do better in making our country's name fly high and shine, but we Nigerians still remain the best of the best in African... and also around the world.

Let us continue to push forward and hope for the best...

Nigeria will fly again!

I think Nigerians have become very desperate people. I don’t know when or how this desperation started Bt I think it’s tied to the era when showing off materialism became a fashion and acceptable no matter where u get the money from.

Back in the day people will avoid u and gossip ur matter everywhere Bt now they will openly praise u as a performer.

Governmental corruption is one thing and societal corruption is another thing entirely. We have embraced both in Nigeria very sadly.

Stalwert:

We are a funny people. Nigerians blame government for Yahoo boys crimes. We lack the concept of taking responsibility for our actions.

It is so sad our value system has fully degraded. I remember back in Primary school where we read about village where people left their wares unattended to, just pick what you want and drop the money. Today such thinking will earn you derisive laughter.

I read ur post and felt like crying. We have lost our values and morals shamelessly.
