Well done CuteVally. Nice to see youngsters who are financially responsible.

First off, stop revealing how much you have to just about everyone (including parents). It's private info. People would always have plans for your money if you let them.

That said, buying some land is the more future-proof plan. If your parents don't mind you staying in their house and it's convenient for work, it might not be a bad idea to listen to them. Trust me, furnishing an empty apartment even to a decent extent is no mean feat. It would eat up a huge chunk of your funds.

If however, your job is stable and it is what you want, you could try the second option as we truly grow when outside our comfort zone. A pitfall here could be the tendency to lose focus in the face of new-found freedom, so you have to be focused and give priority to assets as against the shiny and glamorous. Also, avoid financially irresponsible friends.

A third option could be to hold out and try to see if you can generate a second stable income stream. That way, at some point in the near future, you can even finance both of the original options at the same time.

In the end, your decision. All the best man.

are you saying that all the people who bought BS worthless land, knew they were buying good for nothing lands?!

as i always say: before you buy any land then
1st ask yourself if this is what "you" want to do?
2nd, do you have money to therefore build a house on that said land (or at least a wall/fence around the said land)...
3rd are you ready for the headache (omonile/landgrabbers etc)
and finally, is that the priority in your life/future right now?!

Did the OP said he wants to build house on the land, his parents jxt wanted him to invest on landed property. Who knows land worth of 900 thousand today may worth 8-10 million naira in the next 3-5 years depending on the level of development in that particular location. So stop misleading the guy, renting and furnishing a house is not suppose to be his priority for now so far his parents are not maltreating or despise him in there house. My own little advice though.

Guy calm down. The 1m does not av value in today's economy. I av a friend here with me that can spend that 1.2m in the space of 30mins.
If your parent are not hard and difficult on you den why rushing to.be independent?
What about if you move out, den you lost ur job and you be spent nearly all the money in.renting and furnishing the apartment? or do you think anything is constant in this life?

See am a realtor and real.estate consultant so I know what the values of property worth now. The best investment is property cos they always appreciate unless cars that depreciate in value. Just buy the land with document of ownership and wait small while it appreciate.
Note: the difference between the rich and poor people is investment
Poor people are always spending on liabilities while rich people spend money on asset.goodluck.

JEJELY find your own place to live... instead of buying land so you can stay even longer under your parents wings. BE INDEPENDENT AND DO WHAT YOU DESIRE WITH YOUR LIFE instead of staying like a hen under your folks. i guess they are not ready to cut the ties.... harder for them, than you it seems.

if you are as smart as you seem to be, you can buy land when you are ready/willing to do so in the future.

Little One!!!

Buy the land now & allow it to increase in value. By the time you rent a place to live on your own, you’ll see bills & your eye go clear.

Be smart.

My friend, don't follow the wish of most people your age to move out in the name of "to be a man".
If you could make such while living with your parents it's wise to remain there, buy a land and secure it.
Continue to work on making more money lawfully to invest and build a stable income before moving out on your own.
Forget about spending money on so called enjoying life and girlfriends

Good evening Nairalanders.

Please i need an advice on the next step i should take in life. I am a guy, 25 years of age and still living with my parents, though i am not jobless but recently my bank account just hit one million and 200 thousand naira.

So my parents are advising to buy a landed property in my home town that will take about 900 to 1 million naira. But the thing is that i am 25 and i feel at my age i should no longer be staying with my parents, so i want to rent a flat and furniture it to my taste, i feel it is time to move on, i need my freedom to finally face life like a man.

So my question is, should i purchase a landed property at 25 and continue living with my parents or pack out and start my Adult life. Note: i am not jobless".

So just 1million you want to move out and be a big boy grin
Still stay with your parents, provided they are not complaining. Keep saving enough. It's possible to remain there and have a larger account, get a land, build something portable and move from there to your Personal home before 30.

By the time you pay rent, furnish house, that 1million don finish.

Buy land and enjoy your parent's house. It's easier to save in your parent's house, don't waste this opportunity. Sit down and be humble.

If you buy the land in your village, how much will it appreciate with time? I am okay you buy a land but please don't buy a land in the village if it won't appreciate in value. Buy a land in a town that has potentials to appreciate then fence it and even if it's one room, build on the land and start staying in it. Depending of your location, you can get a good plot of land in most cities with that amount.

Even if you want to rent an apartment, make sure you don't spend more than 300k In total from that money.
op will never take this advice lol. Mumu done budget 800k for renting and furnishing already. Who did this to Nigeria youths, this guy probably hit this cash at once because someone who saved for it won't be that stupid. You are 25 and thinking of renting a 3bedroom flat if u eventually move out which means those at 30 will be thinking of 6br flat. His parents probably don't want him to get stranded when the money finishes because they know his source of income isn't regular. My advice to him is to further his education or go learn a skill period!!

My friend I know that as young guys, independence usually comes to our mind but if you can swallow your pride, I'll advice you to invest that money somewhere... Buying a land is not a bad idea. D way people dey buy land now, in time to come, land will appreciate exponentially. Invest now and enjoy later. Thank me later wink

go and start a business with the money so you can feed your parents in their old age. packing out or buying land is not what you need now. 1 million naira is peanut. if you don't invest, it will vanish within 6 months.

Live with ur parents for now my friend. Do not buy any landed property in the village now. Rather buy in the city where you reside n build a house with attachments for tenants so u can ve a steady monthly inflow of cash!
I don't know what u do...I wud ve said go into any business....keep staying with ur parents n save up again to attain another 1 million. Then start ur foundation! U want to go n start paying rent now when u ve a free house? Don't do that

Bro you are still young, one million naira na small money, my advice would be that you still stay with your parents and huzzle up for more it would be advisable for you to buy a land than renting an apartment, note you are going to pay for rent yearly and you will also need some stuffs. It's better you get the land....

Personally, I feel if your parents are not over burdening you, and they give you your space, then stay there as long as you can. Save money and invest. You need focus right now. When you start living alone the temptation to carry women will increase. Just focus and live with them as long as possible. You have your whole life to live outside your parents' house. That's my own opinion though.

I have friends with more money than this 1.2m and are your age mates and even younger and they are still comfortable in their parents house. Just think of what you can invest the money on that will multiply the money. 1m is not alot of money oo. If you don't use it well, it will finish now now.
