Giant of Africa that's using 5.8billion dollars to construct a damn that will only generate 3050 megawatt of electricity.

At this time of life, a whole country of about 200 million doesn't even have up to 10,000 megawatt of electricity.
South Africa HAS 10X what we can boast of... China has more than 10X10X10 of that...

IS THIS COUNTRY CURSED?

THAT MONEY CAN BE USED TO BUILD SOMETHING THAT WILL GENERATE 30,000 MEGAWATT!!! WHICH IS 10X.

That's not true. Have you ever seen any county that constructed a 30,000 MW power station with less than 6billion dollars? None!

Do you findings well.
Check the sources and budgets of electricity productions in China and Nederland.

Besides, does it make sense to use 5.8billion dollars to construct a dam that'll only generate 3,050 megawatts of electricity?
Don't defend EVIL and nonsense.

Were you one of those who claimed that Atiku's decision to privatize/sell the refineries was to give them to his friends?

Do you know how much the dead refineries have cost Nigeria since 2019 to date?

They will be DAFT to separate because of a perceived skewed representation in projects. Where are their proposals? Bring out your proposal and studies for a project that would make sense, and a state govt can even override the FG and do it with external funding in PPP arrangements, like Lagos does in many cases.

Also, eastern representation on the list is not insignificant. The Onne port is a game changer, as will be the (unlisted) Onitsha port expansion. So also will be the Lagos- Calabar rail line costing 11 billion dollars, and of course, the 2nd Niger bridge. These are huge projects.
I don't think there has ever been a railway link between the west and east.

Dangote Refinery - 12 billion dollars

Dangote refinery is one of the largest construction projects in Nigeria. It is a 650,000 barrels per day (bpd) integrated refinery and petrochemical project under construction in the Lekki Free Zone near Lagos, Nigeria. It is expected to be the Africa’s biggest oil refinery and the world’s biggest single-train facility, upon completion in 2020.

Dangote Oil Refinery, a company owned by the Nigeria-based Dangote Group, is developing the project with an estimated investment of $12bn.

The Dangote refinery will process a variety of light and medium grades of crude to produce Euro-V quality clean fuels including gasoline and diesel as well as jet fuel and polypropylene.

The integrated refinery and petrochemical project is expected to generate 9,500 direct and 25,000 indirect jobs.

Port of Onne Complex - $2.7 billion

The Port of Onne Complex contains two major terminals: the Federal Ocean Terminal and the Federal Lighter Terminal. The Federal Ocean Terminal has 750 meters of quay and three births. Work is underway that will bring the total length to 1500 meters and the number of berths to six.

The Federal Lighter Terminal has 1670 meters and four berths operated by Intels. The berths have been repaired and deepened to eight meters to accommodate some larger vessels.

The Port of Onne is an Oil and Gas Free Zone by Federal decree. Today, over 110 companies operate in the zone that have made significant contributions to Nigeria’s economy through their businesses of pipe-coating, selling pipes, treating waste, and building boats as well as other activities. The port is expected to cost $2.7 billion to construct.

Lagos – Badagry Expressway Expansion Project[ - $1.9 billion

The Lagos-Badagry Expressway is the local name for the Nigerian section of the Trans–West African Coastal Highway. The expressway connects Lagos, Nigeria with Dakar, Senegal.

Extensive reconstruction of the Lagos portion of the expressway began in 2010.When those renovations are completed the Lagos portion of the expressway will be widened from four lanes to ten lanes for road vehicles and a new mass transit line will operate in the median. Two of the expressway’s lanes are intended to be exclusively used by the Lagos Bus Rapid Transit System. Construction work is expected to cost $1.9 billion.

Lagos – Ibadan Railway Project - $1.53 billion

Lagos – Ibadan Railway Modernisation Project is a section of the greater Lagos–Kano Standard Gauge Railway.

A $1.53 billion contract was awarded in 2012 to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation for construction of the Lagos–Ibadan segment (156 km) of the standard gauge railway by 2016. However, the project has also faced delays.

A ground-breaking ceremony finally took place on 7 March 2017, and the railway is scheduled for completion in December 2020. Set to cost $1.5 billion, the Lagos – Ibadan Railway Modernisation Project is among the largest construction projects in Nigeria.

If the level of poverty in the land persists, Nigerians will wake up one day to find all that free granite along railway lines and sections of railway metal frame disappearing

Centenary City, Abuja - $18 billion

Centenary City is the largest and most expensive construction project in Nigeria. It is estimated to cost $18 billion to construct. It is a planned city, located in the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria. And how old are those countries compared to Nigeria...
I know we can be better, but it is complete stupidity that makes you people compare Nigeria to France, Spain, UK, US etc this countries are more than 500years older than Nigeria with exception of US....
Is Nigeria Economy not better than that of Egypt and Ethiopia, countries that were already civilized more than 4000years ago?
Have you ever checked your history books to see what this countries went through to arrive where they are today...
There is nothing wrong with aiming high but it is common sense to be very rational in your comparison.....
YOU, WHAT HAVE YOU CONTRIBUTED TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THIS COUNTRY APART FROM SITTING YOUR ASS DOWN AND COMPLAINING

Your argument is faulty. There are indices that guide Developmental ambitions.

1. Population: when NIgeria became independent in 1960, we were 30m people. 56 years later, we are 206 (NPC) people. That is about 650% increase. Staggery! The UK in the same period was about 20m. Now UK is about 50m (250%).

2. PCGDP: the per Capital GDP is a tool used to measure value of each individual in a country. NIgeria has PCGDP of $2,200. The UK has over $60,000. Our population is growing at about 3.5%. For NIgeria to have PCGDP of ($22,000), still 3x lesser than the UK's, our population needs to be 20m. That is, consistent birth control for many decades. OR we grow our economy to around $5 trillion ((about 11x it's currently value) while holding population at fairly constant rate.

3. Fallacy: time is not equivalent to development. China has been existing for thousands of years, yet they were miserable. She became independent in the 1940s (about 10 years ahead of NIgeria). In about 70 years, she has done what it took countries like UK and US 200+ years to do. UAE, Hong Kong are another examples. Liberia is over 100 year old, yet still among the most miserable countries in the world.

I don't want to continue. But just know this, if NIgeria continues like this (double digits inflation, 3.5% birth rate, 2 5% agricultural production rate, mono economy etc), by 2100, we would be first or second most populous country in world with the most miserable number of people. Of course, we have the highest number of poor people in the world currently.

Remember.
$5trn economy at 206m===$24,000 per Capital GDP (which is still averagely low among developed countries.

OR

cut your population to 20m.

I've been reading about the divide and rule tactic... Now I know it is really working.

Thats the last words of an Ibibio/Annang loser
I can't forget when some foolish Ibibio dwarfs insulted me on this platform and Rivers people as a whole, they claimed we are living on past glory, and they have a lot of viable projects to their name, including Ibom deep sea port, they also emphasized on the fact that they prefer an Hausa/Fulani man to an average Ikwerre man, because we are cultists, wicked people, e.t.c. Why is Nigeria still building hydro dams?
The River Niger is not ours to control.
It can be dammed upstream and then the investments are wasted.

Look at what is going on between Egypt and Ethiopia.

A sensible govt would ensure that most power investment are gas powered.

That should be the future and that should be the goal.

Can't you do your research or you don't have Google? They've already shown you and you're still asking rubbish.

you have done very well on this forum. The true test to see if someone is really what he talks about is when he is consistent. You have been very consistent talking about the development of Nigeria. I am sure you must have met several challenges especially from Nigerians which could make you give up on caring about them. But you pressed on anyway. Like i said above, this only means that you are genuinely after the progress of Nigeria and its people. I have known you for a long time on this forum.

I would like to ask some questions: how far have they gone with the Centenery city in Abuja? Also, how do you think the suburbs in Lagos can be transformed into a more modern place with better and stronger houses and better infrastructure.

Do you think it is a great idea to overlook the new parts of Lagos that is opening up now, Ibeju-Lekki down to Epe and instead try to buy up the properties in the suburbs (WHOEVER WANTS TO SELL) with the aim of building newer homes and therefore transforming the area into more modern place? I feel why encroach further into nature when you can have almost everyone within the already occupied places but this time with high rise buildings.
